I think it sounds more natural for the actors to sing the songs as they did for many if not most of the songs performed in the movie. I think if they had lip-synced to the original version it would have sounded obviously fake. OK this is what I mean I understand Christian and Terron did their own singing and they sounded close enough to Poopie and Corn...thats fine and Im okay with that. What I am missing here is if Leon is playing David and Loen is NOT singing then everytime Leon lip sings I expect to hear Davids voice and not Louis... If I am watching a TEMPTs miniseries then I expect to hear the real Davids voice...If its was okay to use it for the classics like My Girl and TWYDTTYD then why not all of them??? |

I don't know I think they just wanted to use a voice as much as possible and not just use the original song. As it was they used them throughout the movie and so it gave as little live flavor to the group singing their own stuff. And if it was Louis who sang for Leon it kept it the way they were going by having some members who can sing sing and the others use a voice not the original.

So let me get this straight. Since Leon is a singer, how come they never used his voice in the miniseries? And what about the Five Heartbbeats? Was that his real voice singing on the song "Just In Case" or was it someone else?
Now when they sing acapella in the miniseries (like DB and company going over 'Paradise' in that broom closet, the Tempts doing 'The Way You Do the Things...' on the bus, Leon in the apt scene singing 'Ain't Too Proud To Beg, and you know it!', etc...) were the actors actually singing then? And how about "Auld Lang Sine"? This is confusing!

If that's not Leon singing at the beginning of the apartment scene, that's his best lip singing ever! But he says "If I have to beg and plead for your sympathy, I don't mind, cause it means that much to me." Ok, I know this is one of those little things that probably only bothers me, but everytime I sing along it just throws me off.  Oh, and it seems like everybody on the Five Heartbeats is lip singing. Especially that bass singer. It just seems s fake |

I think Leon lip-synced to someone else because his own voice didn't sound enough like Ruffins. .......... As for the acapella renditions you mentioned Diva, I believe those were all the actors.

Ivory, since he is lip singing...then why would it matter if he sounded like David enough or not?
Also Sukka they could have used different recordings couldn't they instead of album cuts?
Any takers on the "Whose voice is used for Jimmy on the SHOUT scene?"

I always thought that was the actual actor, Lamman Rucker, kikiaj. His part was so short it didn't make much sense (to me) for them to have him play the part and then find someone else to sing it for him. I don't know, shoot.... ;D

Kiki, I'm guessing they had someone else do the singing for Leon because the sound that comes out of Leon when he sings sounds nothing like David Ruffin. But then again, neither does Louis Price.  |

i do think leon is doing the apartment singing and there are times when the actors are actually singing.
was that charles malik whitfield singing earth angel to josephine or was someone else 's voice dubbed in?

No way was that CM Whitfield singing! ............... I think they did a good job picking an actor who, um, wasn't exactly the best singer in the world. Incidentally, CM Whitfield's voice was dubbed in by Jimmy Ruffin too.  |
