RANCE ALLEN is by far the greatest singer i've ever heard......and if you've ever heard him sing.....you know why. The stuff that brotha can do with his voice is not only ridiculous but should be outlawed in all 50 states. This cat hits notes that Eddie & Pops couldn't hit combined......and in the same breath out shout and sing Dennis, David, Ali or who ever out the building......this brotha is cold I know Cheech likes 'em dirty......well brotha they don't get no dirtier than Rance Allen....you would do yourself a musical dissfavor by not listening to him blow... Rance Allen is actualy one of Bo Hendersons & Pops (Glenn Leonard) musical idols i cannot say enough about Rance.....you just gotta hear him GlennJr - Rance Allen is indeed awesome. He was on the PBS Stax special back in August and he killed it. The man still has it. Rance was influenced by Claude Jeter of the Five Blind Boys, who makes all of these rough singers like Teddy P. and Wilson and David sound pre-pubescent.

No. Just teasing..... I think Bonnie Raitt is pretty darn soulful. Peach I love her. I have one of her first albums called 'The Glow" some of the guys who played on a lot of Linda Ronstadt's earlier albums played on this one....Wally Wachell (sp?), Peter Asher... She does a cover of "And I Thank You" that is great. Also Joan Osbourne is a soulful gal. I loved her on SITSOM. She and Tony Rich did a live version of "Beast of Burden" on one of the VHI save the music concerts that was so hot. Daryl Hall's live version of "Wait For Me" What do you all think of Brook Benton? this isn't an R & B list. This is just a list of anybody you consider a soul singer.

I got:
Eddie Kendricks - the ultimate falsetto
David Ruffin - the ultimate pleader
Dennis Edwards - that brother sing like a preacher, nobody brought more fire to a song than Dennis, the best
Paul Williams- very soulful
Louis Price - extraordinary, his version of Beauty's Only Skin Deep, remains my favorite version, he did the best job to me covering both David's and Dennis' songs.
Teddy Pendergrass - incredible
And Teddy Pendergrass' replacement that was on that PBS special: 70's superstars, if he was in the group back then Teddy would've been singing background.
Marvin Junior from the Dells - what a mighty voice, one of the all-time greats
Ali-Ollie- what a talent, tremendous voice, represented The Temptations very well, sang with such passion, and could hit them high notes.
Smokey Robinson- his tenor had to be one of the greatest
The lead singer of The Tymes is one of the greatest singers to ever walk the earth, great singing voice
The lead singer of The Platters, one hell of a singer, his voice was magical
Frankie Lymon - voice was innocent, but he was as talented as anybody. Glenn Leonard's version of Silent Night was indeed magical, if the Lord from up above said for one day, and one day only I would be able to sing like whoever I choose, and I could pick one song that was released in the 80's, {I know Silent Night came out before then, but I'm referring to the verison with Glenn Leonard} to learn the lead and sing, it would be SIlent Night and I would choose Glenn Leonard's voice. A close second to Eddie Kendricks, in my opinion.
Johnny Mathis- excellent singer
Levi Stubbs - three words say it all, "very powerful voice"
Finally-me ;D

Mine goes like this:
1) David Ruffin (Not only a 3 octave range unique voice, but this man possessed something that can be taught. He convinces me more than any other singer in history. One of those voices you can't imitate if you wanted to.)
2) Levi Stubbs ( Man this brother has one of the strongest voices i've ever heard. He always sings with everything he's got. And also very versatile. He could tackle a song like "Reach Out" with his preacher inspired style; then tackle "Climb Every Mountain" with the same conviction in an operatic style. Definitely one of those singers a s soon as you hear him sing the 1st note you automatically recognize his voice."
There are so many to add to this list. But in my opinion they all have to go after these two gentleman.
