The average person who attends a Temptation concert is not nearly the serious tempaholics we are. They may know only a few of the songs and it is indeed a chance to sing along with some great tunes. Because we break down, disect, critic every song they made, we are always looking for the perfect rendition of the song we like. The only perfect renditions are all ready on vinyl and cd. Go to the show and enjoy what you see and hear. Get into the fact that the people who go are maybe seeing and hearing the songs for the first time in a long time. I know when I went to see the review, everybody was standing up, singing and Temptation walking and I didn't hear one bad word in the house about who sang what and how it was sung! It was the way "I" like to see a show, like Ivory on my feet and moving and singing along. I think that's what a live performance should be about....kind of like a celebration. Lets stop the bickering over who deserves to be a temptation or not etc because at the end of the day all 20 of them are temptations and always will be. The world would be a very dull place without the temps of any era and any line up and that includes the review so stop complaining and start grooving....

But I also think David was a bit lazy and would take the easy way out. We'll never know if Eddie would have taken the same path with "Just My Imagination" because the song had just been released when he left. And if we see Eddie letting the audience sing at the end, well......he was very ill. I've seen Ron do it with "Imagination" and videos of Richard doing it with My Girl and other songs. Are they a bit lazy too? Jane, not to belabor a point, but your saying that "Just My Imagination" is a better song, and that My Girl is made immortal by Robert White's guitar licks (in the same sentence) (and a recent statement that My Girl is just as wonderful a song without the lead singer), combined with your long past history of downgrading Ruffin's contributions to the group, make it easy to see another "shot at Ruffin" in there. In recent days he's been "arrogant", "inferior" and now "lazy". "Artistically indifferent" is another phrase I recall from somewhere.

You can't attack me,I always knew what I was listening to ,and who was responsible for me listening to it! On Ruffin's worst day, nobody sang MY GIRL,better! LAZY ? I don't think you have EVER seen the man perform, and the Detroit Free Press, didn't have good enough seats, when David DID perform! So don't go on their word! That's what ya call LAZY !

everybody has a personal opinion of their favorite tempts and why and what song or arrangement. it is apparent my dear friend jane from the fact that you have alluded negativity towards david and the fact that your current tempts are like gods to you since you follow them from town to town seems to not a few of us as if you favor the contemporary temporaries and not the classic fantastic.

It's funny SS, David Ruffin is not my favorite Temptation but in no way would I ever say he was not the first most important Temptation. I know what his contributions were and i respect them tremendously and can't imagine anyone who knows anything about the group to not feel that way no matter who their favorite is, My Girl is simply the best R&B song I can think of by far.

Excluding or diminishing the contributions of David Ruffin in the Temptations is like taking the white out of snow. But for some reason, when I think of a list of favorite Tempts songs, My Girl, surpisingly, doesn't hit the top ten?
But it is a very important song, it keeps the Tempts for being the Monitors, the Contours or the Originals.

Must add a note to my trip back from San Antonio. My trip with 700 miles one day, and 700 miles back the next day. I'll bet I set a Tempt record.
I mentioned the torrential rain where I could not see beyond the front of my car, a torrential rain that would NOT stop and my wondering what in the world was causing more rain for such an extended period of time. Quite familiar with hurricanes and they've never had this much rain this hard for so long. It turned out to be TS Bill.
Just heard from the president of an organization I belong to -- Career Women of Mobile. On the same Monday she had been on her way to Montgomery to hand deliver a bid on a job at the state capital. Said she did not want to lose the bid because it was sitting in some official's mail box. Her car hydroplaned, and she went across the median on the interstate, missed any oncoming cars, kocked down an interstate sign, another sign, knocked down three trees and finally was stopped by a fourth tree. The car was totaled. She did not receive a scratch. She called 911, her secretary in Mobile to come with her car. State police helped her retrieve bid packet from her totally damaged car, and being a Career Woman, she and her secretary immediately continued their drive to Montgomery to deliver that packet.
Now you see the kind of women that live in Alabama. Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor tropical storms keep us from our objective. Even though she is a native Mobilian and I am a native of Michigan, not too far from Motown, we share the same outlook.

I am new to the board and very much excited about it. I have been a Temps fan since I first saw them perform on the Ed Sullivan Show as a child. I was at the San Antonio show in the front row, stage right, and as usual, they were fabulous. GC was on hit with the choreography and looked good with the fellas. I only had one problem with his performance, he sang out of key the entire show. I spoke with my cousin who saw them in Detroit in early August and he said the exact same thing. When I saw him with the Spinners 3 years ago, he was out key then as well. Someone please tell me what's going on.

Welcome Temps4Ever Were you at the San Antonio show tonight? Anything else odd other than GC singing out of key?

Hmmmmm....I just saw GC at Denver on the 20th of September. (A day I'll always remember, yes I will. HEE) Anyway...I didn't notice any off-key singing, and I'm a singer so I'm kind of sensitive to that. ;D I *did* mention that he lost his voice towards the end of the show... but A. We are a mile high here. The altitude is tough for even the best singers. And B. The climate is *extremely* dry. Unless you stay well hydrated, you're doomed.

Guess what Peach? I'm a singer too and we both know there is no excuse for singing out of key. Now I wasn't at the show you were at so I don't know how he sounded, but in SA he was noticably singing off key. But I love the guy and always have and believe he will do very well with the Tempts but Otis will not allow any marginal performances on or off stage. Just ask Dennis, Ali, Damon, Richard and now Bo. You guys don't think Bo really left for a soo career do you?

I have a question, when theTempts perform My Girl or Just My Imagination, how many people in the audience are simply listening and not singing? Everyone is singing anyway so why not let them enjoy singing with the Tempts. It's not being lazy when they do that. It's called entertaining when the artist asks the audience to join in.
