Now to the part you want to hear about. What about G.C. Cameron.
He is tall and slender. He can sing. He can dance. The Tempts weren't introduced individually at the "Meet and Greet," and he was quiet.
The Temptations handled the introduction with the class they always do. When they introduce each member, Ron said, "And the new kid...err, man, on the block, G.C. Cameron."
Bo's name and picture were on the program. And that was the only mention of Cameron. You could see the joy on his face at being a Temptation. He sang the leads, except for Ron's. He even sang "Some Enchanted Evening." Terry came out and sang a part of it, but I think with the heavy schedule they have coming up, they are resting Terry's voice. But Terry was in great dancing form. And each Tempt danced a little when they were introduced.
They really sang more songs and did more energetic dances than they did at Riverbend.
I think G.C. was a bit nervous, the kind of "Will I forget any words" or "Miss any steps" that any new person might feel. It was interesting watching the other Tempts who were a bit like parents. Their eyes would slither over to see how he was doing.

And they closed with a complete version of "Losing You" and did the Temptation Walk off the stage. The crowd went wild.
And I'm going wild just hearing about it! Can't wait to see that. Thanks Jane!

glad to hear you enjoyed the concert. i would probably have had your head examined for driving 700 miles in a storm risking life and limb but since i'm a temptaholic i would've done the same!

This is nothing new to GC,he was a Spinner, and was performing when,Ron,Terry,Harry and Bo were in grade school! I expected him to get the steps together,I was concerned about his voice, that's the only thing that I had reservations about. The Fred Astaire stuff ,I know better,Otis is still there. I will see them when they come to NYC ! I will see if GC's voice fits the group,or will he be another Louis Price, who can sing, but his voice didn't fit! Rickey Owens could sing too,he just got stage fright.

GC sang all of the leads but those traditionally done by Ron. Terry only sang as lead that one section on "Some Enchanged Evening." There may have been many reasons why he didn't sing more. My guess was he was resting his voice. At Riverbend he sang many more leads.
As for the GC's singing and total performance, I think any true evaluation would be better after he's got some concerts under his belt. And for me it simply takes some adjusting to get used to a new Tempt. Naturally I miss Bo.
Now the storm: This morning I went over to the Exercise Center. After two days of driving 700 miles, I needed some exercise. On the way over, I heard on the radio that some roads in Mississippi were still closed but others were open. WOW! I thought that must have been a terrible storm that I drove through to close so many highways.
In the exercise room they have 4 big TV's with one on the Weather Channel. And there on the Weather Channel was all this dire news about the terrible storm the south had had. A real Tropical Storm (just one grade lower than a hurricane) had come ashore and dumped inches and inches of rain. I said 6 hours of rain, but it was really 7 hours of constant torrential rain. Hurricanes don't leave that much rain.
And, yes, I should never have driven through such a storm, but I had not watched the Weather Channel and had no idea such a storm was coming. There were many moments when I thought of going off the road and just staying in a motel until the next day. But then my daughter was coming. And every time I thought of stopping for a while (However, it soon became apparent the rain was never going to stop.) or staying over, I would remember the daughter who was on her way to my house from the north.

Mike,
When I posted that about Black Music Month, I did not know the Review were going to the White House. Someone else posted that notice. It is on another thread.

Sukkafu,
I went to see The Temptations. All this malarkey about lead singers or individuals is not for me. It's The Temptations. It's all five voices blended into an unbelievable harmony.
Remember, I'm the one who likes all five Temptations.
I'm the one for whom the lead singer is not the most important person. I'm the one who loves Eddie's voice but thinks he sounds best when singing with and as a Temptation.
I'm the one who believes none of the lead singers have been as good or as successful after they left The Temptations. I'm the one who agrees with the Motown people who believe Otis is the voice around which all the others work their harmonies, that his voice singing as part of the group is the one element that makes the Temptations so special, that they would not have that unique quality without Otis.
It's a nice way to look at it. It gives hope to all of us that we have a special gift or talent to give that makes something we're involved in better. The star may get all the press, but our little effort is what makes the star shine.
I did not go to see Otis. I went to see The Temptations. I went to see them singing and dancing as a unit. They are a vocal group, not individuals. They are a professional, smooth operating unit.
And, yes, they are worth a storm. They were tremendous.
Today someone told me today that Bill (storms with names are significant storms) came in much quicker than anticipated. So while I knew there was a Tropical Storm down in the Gulf near the Carribbean, I didn't expect it till much later in the week.

i am glad that you went to see the temptations. i am not glad you got caught in crazy weather. i don't think otis' voice is anything to build around-unless you mean when they have to build a freeway around a stream or a house !
you have every right to drive wherever and whenever and spend whatever to see your favorite group. i don't buy into the 5 nameless voices can be temptations.
the group is the best. the solos were pretty successful for david and eddie, though.

Well,Jane,I'm the one who KNOWS that the group don't sound as good or perform as good as when the REAL Temptations were alive,so I guess we kinda agree on that, the only difference is,you don't care WHAT five voices you hear,as long as you see Otis, because you don't HEAR him unless he is speaking. If it weren't for those voices that you say are unimportant, where in the world do you get the harmony from? You fail to realize is that the HOF6 was the harmony and NOBODY can re create it,NOBODY. I heard some junk about building the harmony around Otis, that is insane to say the least. I mean the trouble people go thru to try to justify Otis's contribution to the group ,makes me laugh. It's NOT like that, but you know this, you have to if you pay attention to the shows you go to. Those "Lead voices will live forever,so face it,if not for them ,you would not be listening to R& B ! And not know it. And that's the truth! Those Motown people LIED to you, believe your ears, and your ears don't agree with your statement! When it comes time for O's voice to make the sound "unique" as you put it,then the Tempts are in trouble.......BIG TIME ! And did you mention dancing? I didn't think so,we all know better! And that's the truth! temptsinfo.com/smilies/wtg.gif
