Awwwwwwwww Janebse.....I never want to disagree with you but Ali-Ollie can sing a mean bass and had to for a good amount of time while Melvin was in and out sick. Otis is always looking at singers to produce and probably use a replacements just in case. I don't believe there is anyone currently playing the sixth man spot for the group. but I have always advocated having an understudy to be ready to step in in case of illness and the like. they do it on broadway all the time.
unfortunately, harry's illness has to do with his liver and yes it is life threatning but hopefully he is recovering nicely. It is a problem he had when he came to the group but they have been very supportive of it and Harry's getting the medical attention he needs.

Thanks, ABA 21, for the information about Harry. I had asked earlier, but no one knew much. It was his notes in the AWESOME album that made me worry. He was thanking so many doctors. That many doctors sounds serious. And then there was the wry comment that he was glad God was still in the blessing business.

Re: the whip cream thing......... I go round and round about this with a friend of mine all the time. I say that it's nice to keep people in little bubbles and it's nice to THINK of them as being perfect, even if you know in reality they are not. My friend is always trying to burst that bubble, trying to remind me that these guys are human, have faults like everyone else, or in some instances, MORE than everyone else, but where's the fun in that? I know this, I've seen of them being faulty with my own eyes, but I meet NORMAL, FAULTY people every day. Every now and then you see five tall, tan, tallented gentelman moving and singing perfectly and you wanna keep them that way. I've already learned WAY more than I ever wanted to, wish I could go back. (sitting here with my eyes and ears covered, hoping for the best)

i agree with you ive, i honestly do- but i won't deify them. but i do appreciate what you're saying. i was finally listening to the hall and oates with eddie and david live at the apollo and i heard the medley of the tempts songs with hall and oates. overall it was good. i enjoyed the upbeat get ready. i liked eddie 's voice , although it seemed hard for him to hit some of the higher notes. david sounded right on,and i liked it when he was doing my girl and he said we can all sing this.... they were not at the peak of performance as they were in the 60's but they did sound good and i loved hearing them more than i looked to chip at the paint. i also heard my favorite david solo song- walk away from love- it has a soft disco beat and i like the lyrics and vocals are powerful. i also heard a live version of my whole world ended and david was on.... when i was a teenager of 17-18 i used to go to harford community college in bel air maryland and i was a dj on the whfc fm radio station. we would get lots of demo records and special versions of records. i got this walk away from love by david ruffin and didn't know that he was a temptation at the time. i liked the tempts but didn't know their names at first. i thought this david is good, why didn't i hear his stuff before?LOL! ;D i used to play a lot of soul and disco on my shift at the station in 1975 and 1976.

Ivory, You left out the adjective "thin" from your tall, talented, tempting Temptations." I forget where I read it, but one person mentioned the "thin" was part of the appeal for her.
What you were writing about had interesting philosophical speculations for me. Long about I made a rule to never meet a writer whose books fascinated me, to enjoy the provocative thoughts I encountered in his writing, but never to meet him. Actually it wasn't my idea; it was the suggestion of a famous writer. The writer might be a drunk, a anything bad, and then you would be heartbroken. So when I saw the Temptations, stood a foot away from them, watched people ask for autographs or to have their picture taken with them, I did nothing, just stood there and watched. Oh, I nodded and smiled as you do when you encounter people. The things I would like to talk about with them are not the sort of things famous people casually discuss with perfect strangers, that is, not if they have any sense. And especially not when they have lots of people who want to shake their hands. And I had no desire to exchange social amenities. And four of the Classic Five are gone so I cannot talk to them.
Now about going back to "not knowing anything bad."
Knowledge is good. Even when it is not what you wanted to hear. It's how you use the knowledge that can be evil. To know something bad about a person is not bad. After all, we put up with ourselves and who is perfect. To know something someone did that you wished they hadn't is merely to regret a bad fault. But it can be helpful in remilnding us of our own faults. And it can be a moral lesson. One important lesson in the story of the Temptations is brought out in Smokey Robinson's song, "Be Careful What You Wish For, you just might get it" and another thing is the awareness of how important the choices we make are.
Ignorance is bad, not bliss. It is simply ignorance. And when I think of bad choices some of the Temptations made, I try to remember to be more careful in the choices I make. It doesn't make me hate the Temptations.

The GOOD choices some of them made was not going for anything especially standing up against BAD,UNDERHANDED Business deals. I'm GLAD I got to meet and know the HOF 6,this way I can tell fact from miniseries,uh,I mean fiction.

"People, my people, let's party and get down, life is for livin' so let's don't mess around......." sorry, ahem, got a little carried away there. Jane, I bet the initials of the woman who said she liked the Tempts because they were "thin" were "D.[avid] S.[ea] F.[an] (ha ha, that's kind of an inside joke.) ......... I've never been big on skinny men. Blu and Paul started out almost perfect, O didn't start to look good until the late '60's and David and Eddie never did (to me.) I know what you mean about how you acted around them. I don't normally go up to total strangers and hug them, so I don't feel comfortable doing it to famous people. A hand shake is nice, and I'm not saying it's WRONG for OTHER people to want to hug those guys, they do look very hugable, but it's just not me. I don't have a problem with affection or anything, I'd hug any of you all if we met in person, but I KNOW y'all and, more importantly, y'all know me!

i imagine it's also the other way around for the tempts-some half drunk alcoholic onion breath with B.O. wants to hug and kiss them and breathe all over them and they have to somewhat put up with it. it's part of the price you pay for fame and wanting it. i imagine it's fun to have lots of fans wanting your autograph and you try to oblige and then they want you to write ''for aunt suzy in chicago'' and they tell you''remember when i met you in peoria in 1966 at the supper club on thursday-what was that funny joke you told about melvin?''.
what a life! ;D
