TDallas, I was the statistician of my H.S. football team too! Neat!
I once stepped on a thumbtack barefoot when I was 6, ouch!, I still have a little brown dot on my heel today. That's bad.
I am a food faddist - especially when it comes to cereal and lunch meat. One week I love/despise bologna, salami, kosher corned beef, ham, etc.
I love soggy apple jacks (before they changed them and made them a different color).
I think Charlie Brown is a fair representation of myself - except I'm black, female, and not a cartoon character, at least not that I'm aware of.

i am very proud of you ivory. you have a tough deal there. i will pray for you.
Huh? Who? What? I know I need prayer in general but what SPECIFICALLY are you referring to? I swear it's like they are dancing to the lyrics and not the music.
Self, my friend in highschool, Elaine (you all may remember her from the prom photos) SWORE that black girls dance to the beat and white girls dance to the lyrics. Whenever I'd doubt her she'd just say, "look, see" and I'd look out on the dance floor and she'd be right.

Hmmmm. Maybe. I know my friend Kevin (he's Black) cannot dance a lick. But the look on his face is killer when he's dancing. I swear he is dancing straight to the words. Every word has a movement.

I don't know if that's true in all cases....I know I dance to the beat. ;D In fact, that is how I taught my rhythmically-challenged mother to clap in church. I kept telling her "Listen for the snare drum..... clap right when you hear it. That's the beat." ;D I don't know if she ever got the hang of it......... I generally listen to the drums or the bassline...... that's why I can't dance to anything that *doesn't* have a good groove..... "techno" is a horrible thing! Peach

Cool thread - ok here goes: 1. My grandfather taught me how to read at age 3 2. I went straight to 1st grade - no kindergarten 3. I also was a spelling champ - NYC champ in 8th grade 4. I'm left handed and between the nuns and my grandmother they almost altered my personality trying to make me right handed..... ;D 5. I hate ALL insects and worms (I've been known to run from flies......) 6. I love seafood, esp. clams, crabs & shrimp 7. I had a sarcastic and smart aleck way about me in school so needless to say, I was always getting notes sent home about my "attitude"....... (but I'm much better now................ 8. I love animals and once snatched a stick out of a man's hand who was beating a dog - the dog went home with me and the man was reported to the ASPCA and fined. 9. I plan on swimming with the dolphins this summer on vacation (my family and friends think I'm crazy...... but it's something I've always wanted to do so I'm gonna do it...... 10. I was accepted to the "Fame" school - The High School for Performing Arts, for dance. Ok, there's more, but enough about me...... ;D

5. I hate ALL insects and worms (I've been known to run from flies......) My daughter is this way. Me, I used to be deathly afraid of miller moths as a child.....but now I just think they are disgusting and do what I have to do. Anna, OTOH... her fear is such that she will do things that are unreasonable/dangerous just to avoid the fear. If that makes sense. For example, we were driving down the interstate and a miller moth got into the car (or was hiding and decided to appear.) It was flying in the back window just over her head. She started screaming and immediately unbuckled her seat belt and crawled into the front seat, screaming the whole time for me to pull over and kill it. (Something she would *never* do... she is so militant about seat belts.) I just about had an accident! I'm still trying to figure out how do deal with this..... she is pretty freaked out about mosquitoes and most flying things. For such an easy going child who has never been afraid of the dark or anything else, this fear is pretty extreme. You should have seen her when I took her to the Butterfly Pavilion in Denver. ;D We were there all of 10 minutes.... she couldn't stand it. All those beautiful butterflies darting around and flying towards her..... (Crawling insects, they are okay. She picks them up. Go figure.) Peach

Peach, I can relate to what your daughter did because I did the EXACT same thing to my mother when she was driving. A bee got into the car and I FREAKED - almost caused my mother to have an accident. She finally managed to pull the car over and then had to get me AND the bee out of the car...... You can bet that my mom was not very happy with me but I didn't care - and I was a teenager when that happened! Oh, one more little tidbit. My grandfather came to pick me up from college for summer recess. We were driving back back to NY on the NJ Turnpike when my grandfather got a flat. He pulled over and we waited for the state trooper to notify a garage to send a tow truck. I went to get out of the car for a minute, looked down and saw that where my grandfather had pulled over was in a nest of caterpillars! There were so many caterpillars that it looked like the ground was moving! Well of course I lost it and dove back into the car...... ;D When the tow truck guy got there I would not leave the car - my grandfather had to tell him that he would have to change the tire with me in the car because there was no way he was going to be able to get me out!....... Of course I heard about it from my grandfather all the way home but I didn't care! All those caterpillars are nothing but fuzzy worms anyway!

I don't know if that's true in all casesLOL! Of course not. It's a racial stereotype, those are never true in all cases. All those beautiful butterflies darting around and flying towards her..... (Crawling insects, they are okay. She picks them up. Go figure.)
I'm scared of flying insects too. It's because they CAN fly and therefore seem to have more power over you than a land-locked bug has. You can run from an ant and it can't catch up with you, a dragonfly on the other hand? Well, it could lift you up and carry you away and you'd never be heard from again!!!! :hairraiser: I used to be afraid of bees, but then I saw a documentary on them one time and now they fascinate me, don't scare me at all. Wasps on the other hand? I'd lay down in a bath full of snakes (which also don't bother me at all) before I'd walk over and TOUCH a wasps' nest. But I bet if she's old enough to understand something like a documentary, so she can learn about them, she might become less afraid.

Bugs, that's awesome that your grandfather learned how to read. When I still lived in Houston, my best friend was YEARS older then me. She graduated 2 years ago actually! But the only thing we ever did was play school, so I actually knew how to read and do math and stuff up to the third grade level. Her teachers would give her all these old worksheets and stuff. She had this whole drawer system in her room PACKED with sheets of stuff. Crazy, huh? That was an awesome jump start though! It just kinda stunk that school all of a sudden became really hard really fast!
