Actually, most of that "other stuff" from Phoenix Rising was Theo. You know, the "fine guy."

theo may be fine. bo is a nice hard working temptation member , and so is ron, terry, and old otis and harry. i'd like to see the guys again and see the review. i want to give them a chance at full strength before i make my mind up.
when bo did i wish it would rain, it was pretty good. it was a nice effect with the lights.
when he did ain't too proud, i was happy to hear the song, but not so delighted with his rendition.

we've got to stop trying to compare Bo, Louis, Terry, Ron, Damon, Richard, Ricky, Glenn, Ali, Theo, etc. with David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards. No matter how well they sing any of the HOF 6's hits, they will never be as good as the originals - They have to sing the Tempts most famous hits in concert because that's what the concertgoers and promoters at most of the venues want them to sing. Most of the fans of the current lineup would welcome hearing them sing songs from Phoenix Rising, For Lovers Only, Ear-Resistable, and Awesome - I know I would! But, unfortunately, most of that is out of their hands. They have to make a living, so let's try to cut them some slack.

Very well put Tdallasw and besides I became a fan of the current lineup because they sang songs from their new cd's. After seeing the current lineup in concert (might I say reluctantly) I purchased two cd's P/R and Ear the very next day. The only difference between the current lineup and The Review is the fact that the current can sing their new material and old Tempt material in concert. I think if we put down the new lineup then why not cut all the other splinter groups with the same critisism.
For as long as I've been seeing the Temptations in concert they have always sang songs from their current albums. I remember seeing the fellas in 1990 and the "Special" album was out and they sang two songs from that album in concert. And to be honest there were only about 1/4 of the crowd singing those songs along with the group. (even though one song hit #10 on R&B chart and the other hit #15) I'm thinking the reason was and still is a lot of their fans don't listen to the radio unless it's an oldies station so they were not familiar with the new songs.

Good thoughts, tdallas and Kim.
We've said here before...They ALL in some way or other do their job of entertaining us, and that's what we're paying our ticket price for.
They (meaning the current line up AND all "splinter groups") can never revive the Classic 5 (+1), so if you're looking for that to happen and using that as a yardstick, you will come up short and be disappointed.
It is very valid for each of us to have our preferences, and that's the fun of discussing it, and our reasons for our preferences. I've learned a LOT from reading all the discussions like that.

Kalisa as always good post! I was very closeminded about the current lineup. I didn't purchase P/R because Ali and Melvin were no longer in the group and I wasn't wasn't open to hearing anyone sing bass other than Melvin. However my cousin asked me to attend a Temptations concert with her in 2000 (I didn't really want to go but I went) and after seeing the lineup and how professional they looked and how well they sounded I became a fan. Like you said Kalisa they are not the Hall of Fame members but so what they still can sing and dance and put on an excellent show just as I'm sure Dennis and the Review does.

As usual Kim, Tdallasw and Kalisa great post and thank you very much. That is exactly how you should feel if you really are a fan of the TEMPTATIONS. It's the Temptations you go to see not individuals. Sure you may like one better than the other, that's okay. But you're going to see the whole package. If there was anybody who didn't want to hear anybody after Melvin it was me. But when I began to realize just how ill he was I started thinking about who could possibly replace him. I even made Mel a cassette with all the leads he had in the group and I put a couple songs by bass singers I thought would remind you of Melvin.
Remember this was in the late 80s that I made this cassette but I put Pervis Jackson of the Spinners, Ray Davis of parliment and a little known to most then bass singer by the name of Harry from the Futures singing, Mr. Bojangles. How ironic was that. Mama Rose and Melvin loved that cassette and talked about it all the time.
The biggest thing is if you don't separate the old from the new you won't or can't enjoy what the current line-up brings. I don't go to the show looking for Paul and David and Eddie and Melvin. I realize these guys aren't the classic five or Hof 6 so I can go and enjoy their work which I do. I have never stopped buying their music at any point in their careers. To me they are still the Temptations and will always be. I will go and see Dennis cause i like him and I will go and see Ali cause I like him and I will see Richard too cause I like him.

To paraphrase a very well known great boxer named Ali, "if prescient is a good word, then i'm it."

Yeah Sukka, you snuck that one by me (for those of you keeping score at home, Ivory is recovering from her second cold in two weeks AND has the pink eye! ) But technically, while Bo is on the background of "4 Days," Terry sings the lead. Ordinarily I wouldn't be so knit-picky (ha ha!) but he does such an amazing job on that one that I wanted to say something. I think the bottom line is, when you see the various groups perform, you have to ask yourself one question: Do they entertain you? If the answer is "yes" then what else is there to discuss. I think all of the guys (besides Otis and Dennis of course) grew up or are just plain old Temptations fans like the rest of us. What separates them from us is talent and opportunity. But they all pay tribute to classic Tempts every night they perform. David, Paul, Melvin and Eddie are in a better place right now and they are not worrying about who owns the rights to the Tempts name and who is using it or not using it illegally. I think we should all follow their example.
