it definitely should have been touched on some more.. i mean.. had i not investigated further.. after looking at the movie.. i would have just thought paul was an alcoholic and that was what had driven him out of the group.. i don't get.. screwing with details when you're talking about a REAL person's life.. maybe fiction but these are real people dang it.. if the man was sick.. why leave that out? and i thought it was kinda vague his doctor saying he couldn't perform anymore.. because of alkyhol?? :nono

Yah, ttw...that's what made me HAVE to find out something more about Paul and what was really his illness. Its a no-brainer that a doctor doesn't say, of a man as young as Paul was, that "I don't know if he'll ever perform again"... if an alcohol problem is the only thing goin' on.

BUT.. when he didn't drink.. he was fine.. normal.. nuttin wrong.. even after all them years of heavy drinking.. alcohol don't mess with you less you messin with it.. so long as he would have stayed off the bottle.. even for a day.. he still could perform.. not never performin again.. cause of a drink? uh uh.. that p'd me off when found out

I just know this has already been said but the part that always get me (and I cry at NOTHING..LOL) is the end of the movie when the Temps are performing at the Fox Theater. As soon as I hear Al's voice from the balcony, it just gets me. It only gets worse as I watch the Temps performing onstage. I just imagine Otis as the only person left alive out of all five of those performers and it just destroys me... I'm with you, Ivory. That movie is what got me into the Temptations. I saw it, got hooked, and just HAD to know as much as possible about the Temptations... I wonder how many more of us got hooked that way? Ed P.S.: Honorable mention goes to the scene with Paul and Melvin at the piano. Brilliantly acted scene.

The scene that got to me is when Otis, Melvin, Paul, and Eddie were waiting in the lobby for David to come in late. When he arrived in the cheauffeur driven car, he came up the walkway with that strut that said "I'm the man. I'm irreplaceable." Shelly met him at the steps with something like a termination letter/notice. David read it and thought how could he be the one leaving. Then he told them off in a way that I'd think David would have done it. Especially with the evil grin he gave them right before he walked off. The way they all looked at him was the hook. The director did a good job in this scene of capturing the essence of the turning point in their careers.

I agree, All5. He didn't earn an Emmy for his direction for nothin'... I also just love the way Leon played it. He tells them off and then stops himself to smile - so that it looks like he doesn't care. As he turns around, that smile subtely turns to "what am I gonna do now". Then, he catches himself, sticks his chest out and struts off to his car. All subtle quick movements - I know - but all just brilliant. Now, that's acting.. Ed

I happen to like the way the others reacted to this. The only one who looked liked "good riddins" was O. I love the way the scene ends with a shot of them and Christian turned away. Not looking too sure of what lies ahead. The deaths of Paul and Melvin hurt. As much as I watch that movie, I always turn away when Paul is about to pull the trigger. I remember how painful it was for us the fans, when it really happend.

He ran with a gayish stride.

I remember how painful it was for us the fans, when it really happend. Yeah, me too, Crella. Very often, directors don't spend any time seeing to it that the actors react properly to what's going on. This one did. And the actors did a great job giving us reactions that were indicative of their characters. Melvin looked very sad and emotional Eddie stared as if to say, "What have we just done?" Paul fidgeted nervously as if to be uncomfortable with what had to happen and, perhaps, with the confrontational aspect of it as well. Otis defiantly stared at David as if to say, "Good riddance". Even Shelly's reaction as David read the letter was very well done. After what David's reading hits him, Shelly goes for his hand. After David slaps it away, Shelly steps out of the way with a reaction on his face that says, "C'mon, David, do you really want to do this? Brilliantly done all around.. Ed
