Melvin and Lamont's deaths were sad, no explanation needed there. But for me the saddest were Paul's death and David's messing up and eventual death because in both cases (as far as we know?) there were CHOICES made that didn't have to end up the way they did. Two bright lights and great talents extinquished much too soon. :crying

It's hard to remember the *first* time I watched it... because that would be when I cried the hardest. Each time after... I cry less only because it's not a surprise. When I first watched it, my knowledge of the Temptations' history was vague. I knew Eddie and David were gone... I knew Paul had committed suicide, but I didn't know what year or whether he was still in the group when it happened. But I didn't know that Melvin was gone because it was the most recent death. So when Melvin wheeled his wheelchair into the kitchen and didn't come right back, I was devastated. I remember thinking, "Oh my God..... not him. This is too much to bear." Then Smokey singing right after... I was a mess. Peach Well at least you had SOME knowledge of what went on. I was just watchin it cause everybody else was downstairs watchin it, and my best friend from across the street and her family had watched it the first night and they said it was real good. Whoa...I had no idea that all this sad stuff went down with the Tempts. I just thought it was have a lot of good songs in it...

I too, cried for all the above. But the scene that just does it for me is at the very end. When they reprise My Girl. Knowing how much talent and love they shared and the realization they are no longer around, hurts.

As sad and tragic as the movie was, it never made me cry. Only two movies make me cry, Cooley High and Terms of Endearment. They get me every time. Believe it or not, Set it Off almost takes me there every time too. That is one sad movie.

:-[All of The above! But when Eddie's singing "Just My Imagination" @ The Copa, it looks like He has Tears in His Eyes, & then The Empty Microphone !

OMG, most of the time I cut the movie off after Melvin dies, but one day, I watched the end for the first time in a very long time and I cried like a baby...I'll never do that again.

Yeah, I don't cry in the movie anymore, but the first 8 times or so, I SOBBED! I always just lost it when Smokey was singing at Melvin's funeral and they show the clips of Blu! Ahh! Sad SAD stuff! And then they sing My Girl at the end and Otis says "Temptations Forever" Gosh! Just ripped my heart out!
The parts with Paul killing himself and singing when he was all messed up was sad, but it scared me more then made me sad the first couple times I saw it.

Yeah, i Don't think they could've finished that movie any better. Having them do my girl and him saying "temptations forever" was the best ending they could've had

Here's a question...what exactly does Eddie mean when he says "I used to have a soul Melvin"?
