All right, sorry. ;D It's just a label, then, but who wants that label? It's human nature to shy away from ridicule (which anti-war protesters get a lot of). I've seen folks get REALLY upset when someone speaks against the president's way of doing things. I doubt very seriously they'd object to making those type of opinions against the law. Thank goodness it won't happen.

irlm......Don't take this personal. I only wanted to spur debate over the situation and get feedback. I never called you unpatriotic. That is not me. You have a right to your feelings and I respect them. I don't want you to agree with me unless its what you believe.. No problems here. Keep talking about it and how it makes you feel. That's why we're here. Healthy debate is good for all. And it's better to talk about it with those you talk to all the time. It another way to get to know each other.
There is a network of terroism in this world that little ole Bin Laden is not doing all by himself. He is being funded by people like Saddam to do their bidding. There is no way he had enough money to put those cells of people together by himself. Nor did he have the wherewithall to accomplish the goal alone. That has been proven.
So what do we do. I don't have the answer. And maybe Mr. Tex Pres. is being arrogant in his way. B ut something needs to be done in a hurry. Something more than talking..
I don't know how to explain that having weapons of mass destruction in the hands of a madman is crazy. If we were going to use ours we certainly would have as soon as we knew who knocked those buildings down. We have had other instances where we could have responded with force but didn't and other countries play on our people hearts and minds not to retaliate or persue the same types of voilence done to us. We thought long and hard before we went after Bin Laden, longer than I would have. I guess that's why I never made President. Cause I would have been tough. I could do it. All I need's a little more POWER!!! POWER! i'LL MAKE YOU ALL A MASTER RACE JUST PUT ME IN MY GODLY PLACE WE'LL MARCH THE WORLD DOWN IN DEFEAT FEILDS OF OIL AND THE LAND OF WHEAT POWER! POWER!
oH !This wasn't where I was suppossed to sing? Nevermind!!!! ;D ;D

So what do we do. I don't have the answer. And maybe Mr. Tex Pres. is being arrogant in his way. But something needs to be done in a hurry. Something more than talking.. As far as arrogance, I have to agree with you and this is how I see it... Peace at any cost is an expensive, historically-failing idea. In fact, I think more than anything, the irony is this: The world sees Bush as arrogant for what he is committing the U.S. to doing. But it's more arrogant to think peace can still be attained by the present incarnation of homo sapien. Talk about being ethnocentric ... When I read articles like this: www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,1-612630,00.html and this www.tallahassee.com/mld/democrat/news/opinion/5394928.htmwww.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3284-614607,00.html And the numerous articles about what's going on in Iraq, I say why should we turn our heads to Hussein? Something needs to be done--how can we close our eyes to it? I have been "on the fence" for awhile.... I am not a war-mongerer, nor am I on the other end of the spectrum. I'm an observer, wanting to base my view on facts, not emotions. Reading articles like the above help me to do that. Peach

I think that the young people as they have in all wars have had problems with the process. I can understand that. I was drafted. Went to Baltimore for my physical kicking and screaming all the way. I ultimatley did not go because I was classified 2A or something denoting student deferement, then I was too tall at 6'8'', I was called back again and this time not sent because I was the last male in the family to carry the name. There is no good way to explain war. Nothing good comes of it. People die in it so that those of us who live can continue ion the same way we have grown accustomed to over the years. In some countries, talk like this would get you killed or imprisoned. The freedom to express your view is a privilage not a right. It is one that could be taken away if you don't protect and defend it. If it has to happen I hope it happens as they say, fast and furious with decisive results in our favor.
Thank you Peach for the articles. It's just crazy over there.

Irlm...it is important to me how you feel. Keep speaking your piece and stay the course. I understand perfectly. I'm just giving you the other side. I'm worried about the stae of the world. There was a time when the UN said enough....it was done. Now nobody seems to want to pay attention to the UN including us.

1@-) Aba asked me how I felt about this deployment in light of the new events. I will tell you all from my heart I do not want to go, but my reasons for that are more selfish. I do not want to leave my girls (Jordan and Alexis). But I chose this job and so I must do what is asked of me. I will tell you we have people right and left getting pregnant or things of that nature to keep from being deployed..... those people are cowards to me. I remember back when I joined the Army and one day a few of us were gathered around our Drill Instructor...he asked everybody why they joined the Army. Some of them said college money, some said for discipline. He listened to everyones answers and then told the group that regardless what reason brought them here...they were only here for one reason and that is to defend the U.S. against all enemies foriegn and domestic. Now I am not the most patriotic person on some days, but what he said that day has stuck with me ever since. So even though I am not crazy about going over there. I will go no questions asked, because it was my decision to chose this profession or career(I almost have 10 years in) or whatever you want to call it. It almost doesn't matter to me how this person feels about the president or that one. He has a tough job as it is, whether this is unfinished business from his fathers days in office is irrelevent at this point. This is the point...when 9/11 happened 9 out of 10 people wanted to see something happen. They wanted someone to pay for all of those innocent lives that were lost...the president had to do something...or the other half of the world would be calling him a punk for not doing anything. You see he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. The whole BinLadin thing was all leading to this all along. Now I know I have rambled back and forth and am probably not making any sense at this point so I will shut up now and call it a night. As some of you know I am on leave right at the moment visiting my girls and family for the week the General agreed to give us spring break leave and I am grateful for it. When it comes time for me to go I will post on the going away party and I thank you for all your concern and prayers...When I do go I will take my very special Tempt-a-holics with me in my heart

Laura, your post really touched me. You can bet you will be my prayers..... it doesn't matter how any of us feel about this--we need to support people like you!!!!!!
I know we have a lot of "non-fans" of Bush here.... all politics aside, he has professed to be a man of God. Now, none of us here are to make judgments or look into his heart and say, "That's crap," or "that's true." We have to go by what he professes. Whether we agree with what he's doing or not--we need to pray for him, too. If he is wrong, pray that God will reveal that to him. If he's not, pray for him to have wisdom.
Laura, God be with you!!!!!!!! I admire you so very much.

ivory- you are a gentle peace loving person. southern niece- i appreciate how you feel. you are not alone. many millions of people agree with you and ivory.
but...
i agree with ABA and with kikiaj.
i don't like war at all. but i do like the freedoms i enjoy. there is too much evidence that biological and chemical weapons are being produce by an evil plotting dictator who is a major supporter of osama bin laden's al qaeda.
let's stop him and stabilize the region. let's help the palestinians and the israelis find a peaceful coexistence. let's support the peaceful ways to end problems, but when war is the choice, support laura and our troops while in harm's way.

You all ARE aware that we have weapons that could blow us ALL into oblivion, right? I've never understood the logic behind having weapons as long as they're "nice" ones. I mean a weapon is a weapon. I still believe what Abe Lincoln said is true, "No foreign power or combination of foreign powers could by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years." Could they knock down a skyscraper, sure. But without the help of our continental neighbors, there's no way another nation ESPECIALLY Iraq and it's little boy scout soldiers could launch a sustained attack that would any way threaten our "freedom." So I don't buy that argument either. Just like the name Bush has picked out "Operation Liberty Shield," our liberty is not in danger so why does it need to be shielded? Now he could call it "Operation Oil Shield" I'd be able to buy that a lot easier. Anyway, Kiki, ignore me........ you go kick his a**!!!!!
