What I don't understand is how Berry Gordy living high off the hog and the artists don't have anything to show for it I think he should have atleast provided them with health insurance etc...because it's a sad shame that they didn't even provide that for them.

I never offered my vote...
I'd vote to keep David in. And I'd also vote to get old dude some counseling.

I stayed the weekend with THE ORIGINALS when they was over in the U.K last year, the fact is even after all of these years and the fact that none of them have spoke to B.G in years upon years they are still scared shitless to say anything against him!!! That's why they always go quiet it was with a few exceptions at motown that you spoke out publicly against Berry I.E Mr Ruffin etc... They were the ones who had guts to stand up for WAHT THEY SAW RIGHT! Wether it was right or not is a different matter but they are still scared of Berry Gordy conversations with Freddie Gorman showed that to me along with a few others ive been in contact with... Yes,yes..is that the reason why they "portray" some of the people with "guts" in movies and books the way they do? IE..Mr.RUFFIN...Mr P.WILLIAMS,etc......

At the time of David's leaving, they were David Ruffin and the Temptations. Now who's the genius that thought David should sing all of the leads? That's true!!!!!!!!

You're on point with this. BG still has money and with that comes a degree of power. I was reading on another board one day about how a lot about Motown happenings will never be known until BG crosses over. Not that it's a pleasant thought, but for some people, it might be true. Exactly many people the funk bros for example the originals another won't comment with Berry Gordy negatively... I interviewed the guys for a magazie and when it came to ask on their treatment at motown by Berry Gordy and they're relationship with the man they stopped cold. You could see it in them wanting to say what they wanted to but simply couldn't bring themselves to say it... All they could utter was "fine, hes a good man"... But my friend who has recently joined the originals Terrie Dixon she's only 39 and knows how Berry Gordy treated the originals, she speaks up for herself and how her dad and the rest of the guys got treated so I know most things from that... She actually turned down a recording contract with Motown 3 times because she refuses to work for them even tho Berry has little or no say anymore in the company... It would be a shame if Berry passed on but then a lot will come out of the woodwork... But another reason why they won't say anything against them even though he was a total s*it at times and many people at motown got treated badly HE GAVE THEM A CHANCE AT STARDOM simple as that!

I don't think any of them imagined the type of things that they would be apart of. I've read at least three memoirs of Motowners that said Motown changed from a family atmosphere to a straight business. I wonder how many companies back then (or even today) that could have been said about? The "family feel" I mean. And then to have it all just change. Now, in reading Mary Wilson's books, I kind of see why she wouldn't say anything bad. The Supremes (when Diana was with them) got treated so much better than the other girl groups...so like you said, he gave them a chance. Oh, and I don't find it cool AT ALL, that ppl like James Jamerson didn't even get invited to the Motown 25. That's not very appreciative.

What does me is they had time to invite people such as Adam Ant (what the hell does he have to do with motown?) etc... But yet people who actually made the motown sound THE FUNK BROS didn't get invited to perform or just be a part of it. THE ORIGINALS before they broke out in 69 were the main backing singers on most of motowns records so why the hell an integral part of Motowns history weren't invited is beyond me... Gladys Knight & the Pips exactly the same!Edwin Starr.... The list is endless simple they weren't A list artists and like ive said before if you weren't on the A list you got forgotten... I could go on and on with my views but I think I would bore you all ;D

Oh, your views wouldn't bore me at all!!! LOL. I love going beneath the surface!! You gotta see things from all sides possible.
And the sad thing of it is, a lot of those people were fan favorites!! Even if you didn't want them there, you OWE it to your fans to have them present.
I found a copy of Standing in the Shadows of Motown on Ebay. I think I might buy it instead of renting it. I heard that there is a reenactment on the tape of Jamerson trying to sneak into the show. There is no reason for him to have had to do that.

Mikey you may be right I know you don't like O for the way you think he has portrayed Paul, David, Eddie etc personally I can't see it in the book but thats another discussion and only my opinion. And as i say it may well be Berry Gordy instilled something into these guys that we will never get close to knowing about and the simple fact is no matter how much you hated him you darent speak badly of him because you would be out. The way I see it O has always been close to Berry for a number of reasons maybe because he was always loyal to B.G always tried to keep the group together wether it meant replacements or not etc... Maybe it was sucking upto Berry or not who knows but evidently worked for him fact is O is still part of motown.

The way I see at motown there were two sets of artists both sets highly capable of sucess but for either reason only the a list artists received sucess on consistent occaisons. Here is the A list in my opinion THE FOUR TOPS, THE TEMPTATIONS, THE SUPREMES, SMOKEY ROBINSON & THE MIRACLES, MARVIN GAYE, STEVIE WONDER, THE JACKSON 5, You get the idea I may have missed some though. Here is the B list in my opinion THE ORIGINALS, THE SPINNERS, MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLA'S, THE MARVALETTES, JR WALKER & THE ALL STARS, JIMMY RUFFIN, DAVID RUFFIN, etc. Now the A list were the most consistent hit makers and got Motowns best material because they were Berrys favourites. The B list were just as capable of getting hits and being stars but for one reason or another never got the same effort put into them as the A list artists did... See what I mean THE ORIGINALS could go further and further they were in a class of their own as a real soul group but yet know one knows much about them. Same with the spinners they only became big when they left motown. Isley Bros became massive when they when' on their own. The list is endless..........
