he didn't always do his job... he missed or was late for rehearsals, recording sessions, shows, etc. Being arrogant enough to want to change the name of the group to David Ruffin and the Temptations would have been enough by itself to kick his butt out. It's a slap in the face to Eddie and Paul - who were just as talented as lead singers for the group.

Are you saying that Ruffin was arrogant for the name change alone, or b/c Eddie and Paul were leads also? Because if you mean the former, name changes seemed to be the flow of things. To me, whether I agree or not, it doesn't seem to be an off-the-wall way of thinking. JMO. But if you meant the latter, then maybe I see your point. And in terms of this question, I'd probably would have voted him for him to stay. Even though I like Dennis' sound.

I don't know, you tell me? ;D You a sick man, my brother. ;D anyway you look at it, it was a tough decision. I know that David was not the only one who had problems, missed rehearsals and had personal problems. He was so good it came easy to him and like Allen Iverson felt he didn't need rehearsals or practice. But if you want to be the front man, there comes a huge responsibility with that post. You have others behind you who look to you to lead. If your leader has no discipline and I think we can all agree that David had a problem in that area. There is little or no documentation that I know of anybody else missing shows. I can't speak for rehearsals. I mean unannounced missing of shows. How many times does he get to screw up the credibility of the show in terms of promoters willing to gamble they all will show up before you decide you had enough? All of you who voted stay answer that one. I voted stay but if he proved to me it was all about him........then I got to start looking out for me.

In my opinion, they needed to get rid of David in order to grow as artists. This is going to cause a controversy, but I'll say it anyway. Songs like "I Could Never Love Another After Loving You" and "I Wish It Would Rain" are great, but you can only do so many songs about "boy loves girl, girl goes off with another boy, first boy is heartbroken". It started to become monotenous(sp?). With Dennis, they did songs like "Cloud Nine", "I Can't Get Next To You" "Ball Of Confusion" and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone". I think they needed Dennis in order to enter a new phase in their career, and to grow as artists with different subject matter and such.

Unc, I DO worship the Lord...don't want it any other way!!! I just have an appreciation for Al Illey's skills on the court. And LynCap is a combo of my first and mid. names. And how come I had to get the all caps part??? I see Jay's point. Den had a voice that fit the direction the group was headed in.

They did grow as artists with David. the message songs were worn out too because when they entered that phase people didn't take to it as much. I rather hear David sing about love because we need that now more than ever before.

No,at the time, people were eating the message songs up...they just forgot about the ballards that people love to hear them sing. Problems change, but love is a constant desire..to love and be loved.

I agree with ABA...it wasn't David or Dennis...it was all Norman baby writing "the hits...the hits". If David would have remained in the group he would have been singing those songs. I don't know which way I'd vote, and I only know of what went on(missed rehearsal/shows) because of what I have been told or have learned thru this board....SO I will say... I would have given him a final shot either do this David or you're gone.... You know... "Not if your hurting the group" "hurtin the group, hurting the group, I m the best thing that ever happened to this damn group"...Im a Tempt-aholic its all over me
