As far as Eddie's hit's go I did get it right Eddie had a very successful solo career. As for Dennis,if he didn't add something to the name,he wouldn't use it. As far as equating anything,the battle thread did that for me.I didn't evn have to ask for it. I'm confused about something,maybe you can help me out on this,if you will? Is telling the truth about the business downong Otis? Aren't you trying to down Eddie,David,Paul & Dennis in order to uplift Otis? Last,but not least,are you trying to tell me that I'm mad because Otis is the only survivor of the c5? There is no disatain in telling the truth.Which is what I'm doing...nothing changed.   Otis doesn't need me to lift him up. I'm not on his payroll. However I've often wondered are you on Dennis' because any time someone mentions anything positive about The Temptations there music or the current lineup you come in spewing your venom about everything concerning them. That's why I find you little "truth" comments amusing sometimes. They are more on the line of slanted comments about issues that neither you nor I are privy too. Because whatever information you have received is second hand whether its from Dennis or whoever else. Dennis is entitled to give his slant on an issue the same way Otis is entitled to give his. There are three sides to every story his/his and the truth. After reading Gladys Knights autobiography and her comment on the whole Patti/Dionne confontation I can tell you that everyone no matter who they are will tell a story about an incident to their advantage. Otis did Dennis did it. I have listened to the Review and I've seen them peform but I am not constantly bashing them even though I do think they sound like a bad lounge act. And they sounded awful on Tom Joyner the other morning. And if the Review is the closet to the "real thing" then the Temptations of old sucked and sounded like an off key lounge act. But hey that's my opinion. I wished Otis would have swallowed his pride and asked Ali to come back I think GC isn't as good as people make him out but hey that's my opinion. I'm entitled and that my friend is the truth. |

Mike--how do you KNOW I don't have a clue? You don't know anything about me, for all you know I am Shelly Berger or Berry Gordy. You run around here telling people what they know, you DON'T know. You have a certain amount of insight, you were acquainted with a few of the Temptations, good for you. But you have absolutely no right to tell people you know NOTHING ABOUT what they know. Next, if you are trying to start a discussion you should never tell people they know nothing, you are just stopping the conversation before it starts. Next, you are the KING of personal attacks. I understand that is just how you are, but don't get defensive if you are called on it, just own it and try to control yourself a little. I understand your enthusiasm and passion, but too much of anything is not good. Finally, try reading and comprehending posts before you jump all over people...you might find that you are actually charming! ;D

Hi Everyone, Everybody is entitled to an opinion on who their favorite group is. I like both groups, and go to shows for both groups, but I make no bones about it, Dennis and the Review is my favorite by far. As far as all the guessing of when this article was written, whether it was 1990 or 2004, it really doesn't matter, because Dennis has always been gracious towards Otis. The fact is, this article has been around for several years. The article was written by Kevin Johnson of the St. Louis Dispatch in March of 1999. The only other comment I would like to add is that somebody needs to get Kim a hearing aid because she is trippin if she thinks the Review is no better than a lounge act. Girl Pleazzze Get Real.  . But then again, she's entitled to her opinion. |

I have said it before - and I will say it again - in regards to the statement "Otis cannot sing". Otis is not a lead singer and has never claimed to be. When I hear the Tempts sing - I don't hear anybody singing off key - and that includes Otis.
People throw rocks at Otis because they feel he allowed Berry to rip off the Group. Within the same breath - they claim Otis was not the Founder of the Group - you cannot have it both ways.
Finally the day came when Otis & Melvin were given the exclusive rights to the name "The Temptations".
That gave Otis & Melvin the right to protect themselves. So when Otis sues somebody over that - he is trying to protect the Group - along with himself. So now - when a lawsuit is brought forward - rocks again are thrown at Otis.
It was just a few years ago - I heard the Temptations were coming to a local Casino to perform. I bought front row seat tickets - and the tickets say "The Temptations". I bought the tickets expecting to see Otis's Group. As the concert started - much to my surprise - it was Richard Street performing. It was a great show (I mentioned I was up on stage with Richard) but the fact remains - he had no business billing his concert as "The Temptations".
Also - I agree with Kim's statement - Dennis & His Group sounds like a Lounge Act to me too!

But to address the other part of your posts. How did they get the name(Otis& Melvin) without Richard & Glenn? My sources tell me that the FOUR of them signed a document saying that they and only them..Otis,Melvin,Richard & Glenn had the name TEMPTATIONS. This happened when they left Motown and Gordy threatened to take the name from them. Motown ,with the help of Smokey,gave the name to the four of them. The group did not fare well on the Atlantic label(Why,I don't know..I enjoyed both lp's) went bankrupt..went labelless for a period of time...before returning to Motown. My sources also tell me that they got out of bankruptcy by letting Motown have the name...for CASH to ease their financial burdon. That's when things get confusing. I don't know if they forced Richard & Glenn to forgo their claim to the name to help them out of a situtation,or what.But I do know that without Richard & Glenn...they would not have been able to survive during the label switch. There was no known voice in the group at that time.No other record company wanted to touch them. Kenny Gamble wanted to sign the Tempts....the REAL Tempts,Melvin,Otis,Dennis,David & Eddie. When he couldn't get that...he didn't want to work with them. Not because Gamble & Huff didn't want to work with "outside projects" as Otis wrote. More because they wanted to work with THE REAL TEMPTATIONS. Personally,I think that they would have made wonderful music with the lineup of Otis,Melvin,Dennis,Glenn & Richard,but unlike the Hall Of Fame,Gamble & Huff didn't think like ME ! ;D |
