Nish, when a lead singer from a popular group joins another popular group, you're right that it may not always work out in everyone's best interest. Especially when the singer's former group has a different style or demographic audience. Charlie Wilson from The GAP Band wouldn't slip right in with th O'Jays or The Whispers without someone having to augment or adjust his/their style a bit more than slightly. Bobby Brown from New Edition couldn't sing with any other group but New Edition (not anymore though). However, the Temptations have lasted this long by inducting members from other established groups. Some of them came from a replacement situation (Ali Woodson - in for Teddy Pendergrass with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes), some weren't really the lead singers (Bo - Lakeside), one was not a main lead singer but was an important part of his former group (Ray Davis - Parlament/Funkadelic/P-Funk, Roger Troutman & Zapp) who wouldn't really be a good demographic match with the Tempts when you think about it. With all that being said, many of the Tempts came from an established group or singing background. Some of them lead singers, some of them not. Those former groups range from R&B, Funk, Soul, Doo-Wop among others.

How long has Nick Ashford had the Soul-Glo stringy process??? I don't know, but it must be hell on coaches, car seats and pillows. He must have to walk around with a shower cap on all the time.

Hey, I'm not trying to be funny. Okay, yes I am. But you know he looks like a clown. The man is just a daggum clown with that hair. What's getting me is that I think his voice is marginal. He is no Bo. He is no Ali. He is no Dennis. He is no Theo. This is a step down, not a step up. I've seen the man perform with the Spinners and solo,I don't think he's Tempt material, but wigs and lashes....like fake mustaches.....come off at night when no one can see! He a veteran performer and that alone make it interesting for me. He's not going to sound like Bo,Theo,Ali. But very few on this board listen to them anyway, looks are more important. Like Dennis did I expect GC to add HIS talent to the group, sing the songs in his style like Woodson,Bo,and Theo were not allowed to do. Only a veteran can do that . In that respect this might be what they needed! He won't sound like Freddie Jackson, that's for sure!

His earlier records were turly truly nice, but you'll have to listen to him bully through that PBS special. The spinners must be waiting for John Edwards to get better. temptsinfo.com/media/cameronpbshigh.rm

I like what you're working with because you talk about the music.........that subject will never be crowded, won't be too many people on that subject !

Mike, I'm sure that I have plenty to learn. especially about being a veteran. And thank you for the compliment. But the thing I do know is that the artistry and beauty of temptations songs should not be ruined by poor singing. If GC sounds the way he sounded on PBS, then it's a sad day for the tempts and the music. The tempts music is supposed to be sung by the most able voices and musicians. If he's not able, then he shouldn't sing them.

if bo isn't leaving now, and g c cameron isn't going to be a temptation after all, then he's telling otis-
it's a shame, the way you mess around with my life, it's a shame, the way you hurt me....

But the current line up is still an extension of the older line ups. It has it's roots. The New York Philharmonic doesn't stop playing songs they started playing when they first started, nor does the boston pops. People go there to see the good singers sing those songs. I don't see why they shouldn't if that's what people want.
But I do agree with you. I'd like to hear them do more of the newer stuff. But I guess, maybe it would be a longer show.

Just like you don't want to extend that to GC.

No, what I don't want o extend to GC is having him sing leads if his voice sounds bad. if his voice is cool, then it's cool. I want to hear the best singers sing the songs.
