Wow, this is all fascinating. I just wish these guys would come to an agreement using negotiation tactics rather than litigious in-court tactics.
I know that Mr. Street was a part of the Temptations before he was a Temptation, but Barbara Randolph and Marlene Barrow can say they were a part of the Supremes, as Flo's replacements at some point or other. The Andantes can say they were members of the Marvelettes, Supremes, Vandellas, as they all were the voices behind many a hit credited to these groups. However, i think we'd all find it absurd to say that they should be inducted into the RRHOF with any of these groups anymore than the Sweet Inspirations can say they should be inducted into the RRHOF for their work on Dionne Warwick's songs. Although Richard may have been working closely with the Temptations during the HOF years, he was not an official Temptation until afterward, didn't quite make the HOF cut, timewise, unfortunately. Music biz is often a big lemon, and I'm sorry he's gotten the bitter side of the experience, because he's provided some sweet tunes for all of us as a Monitor/temptation

Clarification: I do think the Andantes and Sweet Inspirations should be inducted, they provided the crucial sound to many legendary records, I just think it'd be absurd for the Andantes to want to be inducted as Supremes or something.

I can see a case for the Andantes; the Sweet Inspirations, I don't know. That's kinda like inducting Bobby Byrd for the work he did backing James Brown, all those years.

Or the Originals for backing so many songs. *More padding the posts!!!*

I dig the padding tactic, SS... I'm three away from two hundred.
But in all seriousness, I think the Andantes kind of go above and beyond the Sweet Inspirations because they were an integral part of a sound, a defining part of the Motown mix in a way that isn't necessarily analogous with S.I's background work. What is "Just Ask The Lonely" with out Marlene, Jackie and Louvain? "Baby I Need Your Lovin'?" Etc.

I think the Andantes should be recognized in the RRHOF, too. Even as I like to hear the Tops alone.

at any rate richard was present for 3 of the 4 grammys the tempts earned(as of '89), the 25th anniversary, and was in the tempts[officially] what? 5 or 6 times as long as david, who gets all the credit.(under whom the tempts didn't earn a grammy[although they did deserve one]) I would be happy if richard were inducted into the hall of fame, and what the heck, while we're at it, let's bring in ron too! does anyone have Richard's tour listing? [As A Side Note] I received Milestone a couple of days ago, and I must say, now that I own all the tempts albums available on CD from truly for you onwards, the reviewers down at "all music guide" [www.allmusic.com] really must be insane. They gave together again, truly for you, and to be continued(all superb albums) a 3 star rating, and gave Milestone a 2 star rating! They said about milestone(and I quote) "One of the most forgettable records in The Temptations' long and illustrious history. The personnel was unsettled, and seldom has the group ever issued an album with absolutely nothing having a remote shot at being a hit. Ollie Woodson didn't make anyone forget the group's legacy of great lead vocalists." However, Corner of My Heart sounds as modern as 'tempt me', and I found the album to be a quite refreshing break from traditional 80's music[together again] and soulful standards [for lover's only] as Milestone is heavily influenced by funk-dance, which takes some getting used to. In fact, my only complaint about the album is the lack of any richard leads. I still can't believe they rated Milestone lower than special[an album which the AMG review I quoted above would be more suited to]

My point exactly. I don't need nobody to tell me what I hear. Those lps are very good. I like MIlestone a lot. But if I listened to every so called critic I would never buy any music or go to the movies. What the hell do they know?
