Now Im gonna have to go and look at his face just to see... dang. Which brings me to my next point... somewhere I read (on Ruffin jr's board I think) that he tried to get in contact with Otis in regards to breaking into the music industry or a recording deal but Otis never got back to him....well what I want to know is why is it Otis' responsibility to make sure this guy gets a record deal??If junior IS serious about making it, then why doesn't he do what all unsigned artists do??? Im sure all the unsigned artists aren't out there running the Big Ocephus down...hmmm any takers on that?

Thank you. I don't have anything against David Jr. or his mother, but I agree with you............. You know, now that you mention it, O never got me a record deal either. Darn that Otis and his high-falootin' ways!!! ;D

I'm sure he wasn't thinking along the lines of "He owes me," but more like, "He knew my father, they were "friends" once, maybe he knows someone I can get in touch with so I can make this happen."

if the guy can sing, and if he was willing to learn all the steps, it might have been a good public relations gimmick for otis to at least give jr a tryout. it would be neat to say, (if the guy sings like theo or bo that is)- in the temptations, is david ruffin jr!
i bet ladies would like that.

If he's still bald-headed, I think I'd like that.

I think I actually saw that article in like 99 or 2000. Hey, Richard is my main man a hundred grand. I think his side of the story is as valid as Otis'. Maybe be not more, but it's just as valid. After all, he's been there for a while. But he needs to hurry up with this darn book.

Guest, I've heard that Melvin had a habit of adopting people as cousins, but, if I'm remebering what I've been told correctly, Richard and Melvin WERE cousins, but they were like 14th cousins 8 times removed, or something like that. ............... or that might have been David. I do have an interview (on an LP) where the narrator (or it might have been Richard) mentions Melvin and Richard being little boys, staying at one another's house and laying in bed together singing. Sounds kinda corn ball, but that's what the interview says. Anyway, like I said, Melvin kinda adopted folks which is why I'm always making the joke, "Melvin was my cousin and he's your cousin too! Melvin's everyone's cousin. He's the great link that ties all man-kind together." Ah-h-h, I love these boards. I've had Richard, whose one of my all-time favorite Tempts, on the brain a lot -wondering about his health and career, etc. Then i was able to find this thread and get caught up. I love it. [CHEECH] , are you a singer? You MUST be. The comments that you and Aba make are just TOO wise for just plain seasoned listeners, and I've learned that Aba is a mean singer from reading your posts. One other thing, on Richard and Melvin being cousins, I saw a Tempts show at the Apollo theatre in Harlem in the summer of 1987 I believe it was. The roster was Dennis, Richard, Ron and the BIg O. Melvin was out ill, and Richard took a moment to explain that to the audience. He stated clearly and lovingly that Blue was his cousin with all of the other Tempts right there. The audience called out things like, "Tell him we love him", and "Tell him we said, get well" or something close. It was very touching. peace out, The Tempts'Man temptsinfo.com/smilies/wtg.gif

I have an LP interview of the Tempts where Melvin or Richard one talk about growing up together and, when they were kids, spending the night together and they'd lay in bed and sing.
Oh to have been a fly on the wall...........

Richard did say something like that to the audience.
