Don`t forget the fact that The Da Vinci Code is all made up of course. I read in a newspaper the other day, that millions of Americans actually BELIEVE everything what`s written there! Go figure ... There are some historical facts in the book but you have to do some research to find out what is real and what is not. The premise of the book is definetly fiction but as you stated there is widespread belief that it is real. I think that is what makes it so interesting. Have you looked at the painting The "Last Supper" by Da Vinci? It makes you wonder

The Song Of Bernadette by Franz Werfel
I just began to read this book. It's a thick one -- 500+ pages. Seems to be an interesting read, though.

These men are selfish in my opinion to treat women this way. the book is an insight into the authors secret life. It exposes a closeted culture of men who live a "straight" life and are secretly pursuing affairs with men. It also discusses the health consequences of having unprotected sex, as African American women represent an alarming 64 precent of new HIV infections!! This drives me nuts, and you could just never know.

Don`t forget the fact that The Da Vinci Code is all made up of course. I read in a newspaper the other day, that millions of Americans actually BELIEVE everything what`s written there! Go figure ... Not all of it .... Alot of it was based on Facts and the rest on theories with a story line thrown in ... That is Dan Browns writting style, Such as in DIGITAL FORTRESS and ANGELS AND DEMONS (I haven't read his 4th book DECEPTION POINT yet so I can't speak on it) But anywho lets look at some facts: FACT - in the last supper, There are 13 wine glasses, NO HOLY GRAIL, there is a hand (a 27th in a room of 13 people) with a dagger pointed towards Jesus, and the person sitting next to Jesus does have breasts (*Chuckles*) and is wearing mirrored colors wich symbolize a relationship. FICTION - Well ... I'll have to get back to you on that ... Maybe GUA can fill you in on that front ... lol UNDECIDED - PRIORY OF SION, Many people are certin it is an actual org. but many others are sure it is a hoax. So it really depends what part of the book you look at ;D

It also discusses the health consequences of having unprotected sex, as African American women represent an alarming 64 precent of new HIV infections!! This drives me nuts, and you could just never know. I have heard a feature on the radio a few days ago saying that the women in India are severely affected by infections now. The sad part is that they "save" themselves for their future husbands only to become infected by these men. Sadly enough, most of the women who get infected, however, are prostitutes whose only income stems from this profession ... When we were young and lighthearted the "worst" fear was to have a child out of wedlock ... when you're young and lighthearted today -- well you're worst fear is really the worst: dying of AIDS! Has anyone read UTOPIA by Thomas More? There is a chapter in the book where he describes the physical examination of a bride-to-be. She was checked for signs of STDs (at that time mainly Lues) so that she would not transmit the disease to her husband (I forgot whether the future husband had to undergo such a procedure, too.) I'll check that, though. Thomas More lived and wrote in the 15th and 16th century ;D

Reading the number one book on the bestseller list, "Juiced" by former Oakland A, Jose Canseco. it is a tell all book about how he took steroids and who else is taking them as well..............he has been ostrasized by the baseball community for telling on people. A lot of the players won't even talk to him anymore. It seems he is telling a story that's more than his to tell....................he should just tell on himself and what effect they had on him and you would still have a good story.

So it really depends what part of the book you look at ;D Hot off the press........... Top Cardinal Blasts 'Da Vinci Code' as 'Cheap Lies' Tue Mar 15, 1:02 PM ET By Philip Pullella ROME (Reuters) - A top Catholic cardinal has blasted "The Da Vinci Code" as a "gross and absurd" distortion of history and said Catholic bookstores should take the bestseller off their shelves because it is full of "cheap lies." Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, in an interview with the Milan newspaper Il Giornale, became the highest ranking Italian Churchman to speak out against the book, an international blockbuster that has sold millions of copies. "(It) aims to discredit the Church and its history through gross and absurd manipulations," Bertone, the archbishop of the northern Italian city of Genoa and a close friend of Pope John Paul (news - web sites) told the paper in its Monday edition. "This seems like a throwback to the old anti-clerical pamphlets of the 1800s," he said. The central claim of the book, written by American Dan Brown, is that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had children. The Bible says Jesus never married, was crucified and rose from the dead. Bertone's comments were significant because until the Pope named him archbishop of Genoa in 2003 he was for years the number two man at the Vatican (news - web sites)'s most powerful department - the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. "You can find that book everywhere and the risk is that many people who read it believe that those fairy tales are real," he said. "I think I have the responsibility to clear things up to unmask the cheap lies contained in books like that." HOLY GRAIL A central storyline of the book is that the Holy Grail is not the cup which Christ is said to have used at the Last Supper but really the bloodline descended from Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Bertone calls this idea "a perversion." Bertone is so incensed about the novel that he will be the key speaker at a roundtable in Genoa Wednesday night attempting to dismantle the book, which also accuses the Church of covering up the female role in Christianity. "I will try to clear things up and help form consciences," the cardinal said. "I think that when faced with affirmations that are so shameful and unfounded, readers who have even a minimum of basic (Christian) formation should react," he said. He said it was "sad" that even Catholic bookstores were selling The Da Vinci Code "for purely economic reasons." One bookstore selling "The Da Vinci Code" is the one in the Gemelli Hospital, a Catholic institution where the Pope spent a total of 28 days in two stints in February and March. In the interview, Bertone firmly rejected the book's claim that the feminine role in Christianity had been suppressed. "This is one of the most vulgar of inventions. The feminine element is present in all the Gospels," Bertone said. Bertone also strongly defended Opus Dei, the conservative Church organization that the book depicts as a ruthless, Machiavellian group that resorts even to murder in its attempt to keep the Church's secrets hidden. The novel is going to reach an even wider audience next year with the release of a film based on the book staring Tom Hanks (news).

Funny thing about that, is that Jose's going the way of another "legend," Jim Bouton. Jose's book is getting about the same reception that "Ball Four" got back in the 60s when it came out. Some people never learn.
