LOL, I read A Raisin In The Sun Sunday or Monday night. I enjoyed it, but I kept imagining how Puff Diddy would say his lines as Walter Younger. I really enjoyed Blues For Mister Charlie by James Baldwin. And the Harry Potter books. I decided to go and read all 6 because of the movie. I got 3 in before I saw the film, and I read the other 3 later. I'm trying to read Gone With The Wind now. Wish me luck. :laughing

Anyone on this board who doesn't like Zora Neal Hurston? I love her. She is simply one of the greatest story tellers. I am currently reading her "Complete Stories." Since I've read her first short story, I am a great admirer of her work. The book that got me hooked was "Their Eyes Were Watching God." Her stories are short and to the point. No scrolls and unnecessary fluff ... You start reading and jump right away into the story. The only negative about her stories is that she uses a lot of 'slang' which surely contributes to the directness of the stories she tells and makes the characters so real that one thinks to have them actually heard talking ... What I like about her work is that she writes about her "Negroes" as people who are just people ... nothing more and nothing less. No self pity, no excuses, just life as it is lived by everyday people. She is one of the best American wrilters, in my (and others') opinion.

GWTW was 1037 pages long. I finished it Saturday afternoon (took me a week ). I was inspired to review it on Amazon.com; I gave it 3 [of 5] stars. I just got the sequel, Scarlett, from the library today. I also put in a request for the movie, which I've never seen. For some reason, I can't get enough of Captain Rhett Butler.

Oh Temptress, you simply have to read it. She was a genius. It is said that she wrote the story in only 6 weeks!!! She was a very intelligent and educated woman. Her stories are somewhat difficult to read (for me) because she writes exactly as her characters speak. Nevertheless, reading her books is worth all the trouble.
