He ain't the only one who hits a flat note on this...
What is this clip from & when? Did they have monitors? Could they hear themselves?

Bud, I don't know what they had, but I do know this isn't the first time, I've heard him flat.

They all go flat! In fact, I've never heard a singer live who didn't hit some clams, & that includes Maria Callas. I can't imagine trying to do all those parts perfectly AND hit those moves...especially in the early days with no stage monitors & no way to hear yourself.
I'd be interested to find out when this recording was from, whether it's early in his tenure or not. I'd give him an A for effort anyway...I think he had a sweet voice. I will admit that I haven't heard more than a couple clips of the Damon-era Tempts, other than his recorded work with them, which I really like, & I never saw him live, so you may have a better sense of this than I do.
I still think you're being too hard on the poor kid...he's no Glenn Leonard, but then who is...<g>

It's like he working on fusion. If Miles Davis had a singer on "On The Corner" he'd be his man. Miles would say, "Hey, man sing it cool" and Damon would be in a another key.

But to sing the whole songs sounding like you are singing in song in "C" in "D" is just not cool. But I guess we will agree to disagree.

Okay. Let's start. I'm watching ... Remember our kind of :bonk: does not really hurt! But it is quite interesting to hear you discuss these things. And don't forget to speak slowly and clearly, or, I'll miss a lot of what is said

Dude, you're not telling me you think he's consistantly sharp through out the whole song? What about the a'cappella ending, you don't think he's hitting that high note on pitch?

During the whole thing he's missing notes. He's not doing any riffs or anything. Come on, man, you hear it. I know you do.

What, he's not riffing enough, he's singing the melody too straight?
It just sounds to me like this is one of his early gigs, Melvin's comments at the very end kind of tip that off. I'll bet he was scared to death, his knees were probably knockin' together. I say give the kid a break. It also kind of sounds like a "board mix," a recording done through the mixing board, just the vocal mics straight to tape. Board mixes are notoriously unkind, you don't get any of the room ambience to smooth things out.
I know, excuses, excuses...<g>

D-a-n-g... I'm not feeling Damon on this one. Someone mentioned a while back that he's just a studio singer. Perhaps... he does an ourstanding job on 'Love Woke Me Up This Morning' but the live version of 'Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)' doesn't move me. I'd rate Glenn as the best live version followed by Ron. I have not yet heard Eddie sing it live.
