Some of the Temptations' best and most dynamic lead vocalists are not with us anymore. A short list has been given the task of singing lead on the classic love song, 'My Girl' in concert while a member. As a youngster, Dennis could have given justice to the song with his version. But he felt it was "David's song" and wouldn't touch it. So, my belief is that Pau sang it after David left. Richard Street, from the examples I've heard, sang the weakest version of it. He showed very little range or versatility in the times I've seen recordings of him singing it while a member. I don't know if Ali sang it on a regular after he became a member. But I'm pretty sure he would've put some hot sauce on it and given it some flavor. I've seen a few recordings of Ali singing it while a member and he was really something, without changing it too much. From the examples that I've heard/seen, Richard and Bruce have sang the weakest versions of 'My Girl'. My favorite non-David rendition of it would've Ali-Ollie Woodson, who could sing just about any of his predecessor's leads without much problem, if any.

Ali could sing other former lead singers songs his own way without it losing too much of the essence from the the original. I'm sure Paul sang it better than the weaker sounding Richard. Terry's voice is better fit for singing some Richard & a few Paul leads. I agree about Bo. I didn't like the way he sang it. The weakest version was Richard's and the worst/waaaay off version is somewhere between Bo & Bruce. I did like the way GC sang it with a bit of respect.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEa8ukr4gq8never heard him sing is live but, I think Louis price did a great job here, considering it was almost 30 years after he was in the group. In my opinion Louis Price is the most underrated lead singer, because of the time he joined the group many people forget him, I would like to see him and Theo back in the group if there were any more replacements to come, and with Otis who knows!!

He followed Dennis and Dennis was still pretty much in his prime. Louis is a better fit now....Otis should have re-hired Louis instead of Bruce. Louis had a Jerry Butler feel to his voice. Louis was very good on the mellow tunes....He did a good job on "A Song 4 U"

David's version was a tough act to follow but here is my order of guys who gave it justice : 1. Ali 2. Theo. 3. Paul 4. G. C. ...............The others that tried, failed big time..... I don't how Richard got to lead it for so many years............... Dennis sang the hell out of "I'm losing you" but refuse to touch "My Girl" for sentimental reasons. Even with his "Review" David Sea has always led MY GIRL.

In the beginning, after David's departure from the group, Dennis may have"refused to touch" it. In his present group, he along with David Sea have lead the song, and have shared the lead. By the way, Dennis does NOT sound that good singing that song. David Sea does a better job.

Dennis is the former Temptations lead singer who can only sing his own leads well. Not anyone else's. Especially now. His prime was during his 1st term. David Sea is definitely a better vocalist now compared to Dennis. The other guys in the Tempts Review don't even meet half their level.

Looks like I'm outvoted here because I loved Bo's version of My Girl. He made it sound like a different song. GC had some great riffing and adlibs in his version, too.

Making it sound like a different song? That's one reported reason Bo was terminated. Isn't it? Bo was good with Theo's leads and his own. But almost never anyone else's. He has very good vocal control. I wish I'd seen him sing "Forget About It" or "How Could He Hurt You?" live. That would've been 'Awsome'.

Yeah, but I liked the fact that Bo made it sound like a different song. I can't stand "My Girl." It's overplayed and overshadows many of the group's other hits. It's one of the few Temptations songs I skip whenever it comes on. When it comes on the radio, I change the station. It's not a bad song but I've heard it more than enough in my time. Bo made the song sound fresh.
Again, I'm outvoted on this but it's my opinion. I too wish Bo would have sung "Forget About It" or "How Could He Hurt You?" live. He was one of my favorite lead singers of the Tempts.
