Tempzfan - I have the album. I tend to play 3 songs from the album - "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" by Marvin Gaye, which is wonderful, "The Lord's Prayer" by our cats, and Gladys and the Pips "How Great Thou Art." Quite frankly, I think the rest of the album is a little to schmaltzy for me. Pentz' rendition of "His Eye..." pays for the CD many times over, it's absolutely beautiful, and it is truly gospel. Lynnie - you raise a good point. I don't like to hear today's R&B singers sing gospel, but since soul music from the 60s is truly a mere 1/2 degree removed from gospel, it's not quite as drastic. Particularly when I think of a tune like Lorraine Ellison's "Heart Be Still" which is "Peace Be Still's" secular twin, it reminds me that the voices of that era were adroit in either arena. Linda Jones is another, Impressions are the same way, they infused their music with a great gospel feel. This applies to Motown, although Motown's artists had this slick veneer that doesn't make you think "gospel" when you take away the orchestration and sweetening, you got gospel. "Can I Get A Witness" by Marvin Gaye is nothing but a secular testimony!

I had better never hear Jaheim or B2K doing sweepin' rendition of "By and By" or "Uncloudy Day"

I'd prefer this kind of music anyday over the kind of music that's around now... music back in the days had a meaning to it, it wasnt just about clean cars with big rims on it and who had more platinum in their mouths.. no body talks about love no more.. those day's are gone
