Someone I know said something interesting to me. First things fiorst though. Kobe's press conference is 4pm eastern time on ESPN tomorrow.
Mike Tyson and Deseriee (sp?) This woman came to his room at 3am in the morning by herself.......need I say more.......And she supposedly didn't get mad until he refused to walk her downstairs.....there's something wrong with that picture.
Now this woman brought something Kobe rquested up to his room. She waited until she got off work to do it. She could have sent a bell hop to deliver it. There is some morbid curiosity on her part to be in the room with Kobe Bryant........come on now!
I am not condoning anything that mayor may not have happened in those rooms but these young ladies need to be smarter when deciding what chances they will take to be around a star. We know the stars need to be smarter.
I just hope nothing happened and this whole mess goes away tomorrow.

........... you know, I think if I were a celebrity, I'd keep a hidden video camera in my room to prevent anyone from bringing false allegations against me.

There are legal problems here. Remember all those telephone recordings which tell you that "your conversation may be monitored."

“ I made the mistake of adultery. I have to answer to my wife and my God for my actions that night and I pray that both will forgive me. ” Kobe Bryant

He said he was going to have to answer to his God for his actions, and that's who Kobe's judge is.
I thought maybe he had done something he shouldn't have, maybe a tap on the behind, but I definitely don't believe he raped the girl like they're implying. He's young, but he's not stupid.

Jane I know, but it's a chance you take. If someone's gonna accuse me of doing something and I've got video tape to prove the opposite, the last I'm gonna worry about is whether or not THEIR rights were violated.
His apology seems sincere enough to satisfy me until the case goes to trial. It's just a shame that a man who's living the good life and has such a beautiful wife would chance screwing it up like that, but of course, it happens all the time.

But he is such a nice kid and I hate when bad things happen to good people. Whatever he did he was wrong but he does not deserve to go to jail for the rest of his life for it, especially since the young woman waited until the next day to come forward. I could be wrong but if you get raped and you get away, you go for help. That didn't happen. So I want the whole truth to come out and then judge his crime and not the man. We know he made a tupid mistake when you risk millions on a one night stand. but IMO he is still a good kid.

Ivory,
IF you have a video camera in your bedroom, people will be inclined to think you are a voyeur. However, people do have video cameras around their house to report on unauthorized visitors. IF you had a camera in your bedroom and immediately turned the film over to the authorities, then the film would be available for authorities to determine who had done what.
ABA,
I think you meant to say "when good people do bad things" not "when bad things happen to good people." Bad things happen to all people. Earthquakes do not just kill good people. Remember when Sukkafu had the thread this past Sunday, "What did you learn in Church this week?" And I said the sermon had been on "When Good People Do Bad Things."
A corrollary of that would be "Why do intelligent people do stupid things and sometimes do them repeatedly?" And I don't mean bumping into a door. And the answer to that is that these intelligent people become arrogant and either think they have the right to do whatever they please or that they can get away with it.
As to why do good people do bad things, take the example of supposedly good and Christian people who commit murder. (A minister murdering an abortion doctor because he believes the doctor is committing murder.) One answer here is that good people can become convinced their view of good is the only view of good. Certainly religious fanatics are in danger of falling into this category.
But most good people who do bad things do not fall into the murdering category. Sometimes they just say something that hurts another person. And once they realize what they've done, they are horrified.
AS to why the girl did not report it until the next day, I have no idea but I do know that women have always been reluctant to report rape or sexual advances because most people believe the female encouraged them. And for most women who do report them, the results have not been pleasant. But perhaps in recent years this has changed.
And, ABA, I think we previously discussed the dangers athletes and entertainers (people in public limelight who seem to have many adoring fans) face today. And you mentioned some of the precautions that could be taken like not taking any women to your room. (Nor should the female take any males into her room.)
What were the early precautions people used?
Always leaving door wide open so anyone could see into room.
Always have other people there, never be alone with one of the opposite sex.
And from what IRLM says (wink, wink,) maybe we should add something other precaution.
I cannot imagine that Kobe will receive any sentence. I think when we discussed this problem earlier we were talking about women/men who use these situations as an opportunity to sue for money, much money.
I cannot imagine Kobe will receive any sentence. But there are always so many other ramifications that I wouldn't guess what could happen. Something as simple as this thinking: "O.K. there have been so many examples of this type of conduct, it's time we took a stand and made an example of someone."
And then there's the example of someone who has always been pretty good and does one simple little thing wrong and the whole book of the law falls on him. And maybe what they did was impossible to avoid, but they get caught and BAM!

especially since the young woman waited until the next day to come forward.
Now hang on just a minute and going along with what Jane said ............ lemme play Devil's advocate here for a minute. IF this young woman is telling the truth, why are we going to distrust her just because she wated a few hours. I mean, I understand what you're saying, but rape is a very tramatizing thing, esp. when you're accusing a celebrity. I'm no expert but I would imagine that the LAST thing a woman wants to do when she's been assaulted is run out the door screaming "Help! I've been raped! Call the PO-leece!!!" I mean it's NOT something you want the world to know, comprende?

What were the early precautions people used? People minding their own damn business! You didn't have people camped out waiting for something to happen. Where were the cameras when J.Edgar Hoover was Dennis Rodman? Think about how much a photo of Hoover "Dressed up like a Pionter Sister " would be worth today? They didn't know about Dr.J's "other daughter ,untill years later. Same thing for Muhammad Ali. Nobody got Otis on tape playin' around! What about Tracey& Hepburn? They would have been REAL busy trying to keep up with Liz Taylor. No RESPECT ,that's what it boils down to. Who got pictures of Yogi Berra,Mickey Mantle or Roger Maris at the "watering hole"? There was more respect back then, less "TRASH JOURNALISM" than now. And it SUCKS,BIG TIME !
