My co-workers and I always argue about which movie is better and which movie is sadder. The Temptations or The Five Heartbeats, I've seen both, and I must say that the Tempts is both better and sadder. During the Five Heartbeats I found myself constantly looking at the clock trying to figure out how much was left on the movie. I just can't figure out why anybody could even think that the Five Heartbeats is sadder or better than the Tempts. :shocked The Five Heartbeats, disband, then at the end they all come together and rejoin in a dance and song, the only time we will ever see that with the tempts, is when not only we, but we and otis are floating with the angels. :crying :crying Only then will we be able to see the tempts rejoin for a song and dance, but hopefully that won't happen for awhile, long while. Any thoughts or comments??

I agree with you...and I've had the same argument in class last year...it was four of us fighting. Me and this other chic supported the Tempts, while two other people tried to argue that the Five Heartbeats was better..somehow I ended up pretty upset and ready to fight, but hopefully I got my point across

mmmmm..... I gotta go with the FIVE HEARTBEATS. Although it was a fictional group I enjoyed the story line much more. I guess it had to do with some inaccuracies found in the Temptations movie (I'm not talking about Blue's "magic tie"). The timeline with Paul and 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' did not sit well with me and Speedo - well that fella looked NOTHING like the Speedo I know mypages.blackvoices.com/channels/pictures/view_alone.nhtml?profile=pictures&UID=10012

For reasons that I will not go into.

I love the Tempts movie......BUT.... the Five Heartbeats is better.....I don't know why, but it is. Plus.....I think it's funny how, in the Five Heartbeats movie, all the publicity shots & magazine pics of the group look ALOT like all of the pics of the Tempts. ;D

I have to vote for The Temptations movie! I love The Five Heartbeats, but I've never watched it over and over and over again like I have The Temptations. So I have to go with The Temptations movie. Love it! And of course The Temptations movie is sadder. One member commits suicide, one dies of lung cancer, one dies of a drug overdose, and one from the flesh eating disease! (Is that what Otis said in his revised book!?) And none of them were that old. Weren't they only in their fifties? Like someone said, in the Five Heartbeats they all came together in the end. If only it could have been that way with my Temps. Just thinking about it almost brings me :crying to tears.

Compairing these two movies is hard to do. The Temptations movie is sadder than The Five Heartbeats. The Temptations movie is better because of the music. But, The Five Heartbeats is a better plotline because of it's R rating. It was a much more honest film. Can you honestly say that nobody called a Temptaion the "n" word, considering four of the five members were from the south? In the Temptations movie, when David was fired, Blu looked like he was going to cry. In The Five Heartbeats, do you guys remember the managers murder, and how a member of the group was suspected of having something to do with it? Well, there was a scene after his death, where all the members were outside, in what looked like a deserted area. In the scene, when the guy with the bass voice attacks a member, it's "I'm gonna kill you, motherf***er!". The Five Heartbeats was a much more honest film, as far as band tention is conserned.

I love both movies but......... The Temptations Stole my heart the most!!-LOL. Whoever said that it is some major similarities between the two groups were right. It's just that the Tempts. were real and the heartbeats were not. However, the characters have some similarities: Otis could have been Duck because of thier shared leadership David could have been Eddie Cain because of the similar personalities Paul could have been JT (Sound Familiar?-LOL) Because of thier addictions Eddie could have been choirboy because of their quiet, but firm stand in the group. They also sing alike-LOL Blue ofcourse could have been the light-skinned bass (Forgot his name-LOL) because of thier calm demeanor and similar sounding voices (Although Blue had him by a long shot-LOL) I wish that the Tempts. movie (and real life situations) could have been as happy and fortunate as the The Heartbeats were- Tempt. ON!!!!!!

This is not a fair comparison....=) I LOVE the Tempts movie, watch a part of it everyday & am wearing out my DVD. The Five Heartbeats I just tapped & love it to death but....I don't know. I wish the Tempts coulda had the real happy ending that The Heartbeats got. I love 'em both, to death, so much!!!!!!!!!! But.....I'm gonna have ta go with the Tempts as sadder, I cant say one is better then the other so I'll leave that as a tie. =D

I loved both movies.................went to see 5H at the movies 3 times to support Robert Townsend...but I liked the Tempts movie better. 5H was a comedy drama and the Tempts movie was a docudrama in my opinion.

Far as acting goes, I would say that both actors in the movies did a superb job (Although the movie Tempts. were finer if you know what I mean-LOL) But I love that part when that little gril (Duck's sister) was started to sing and sing and sing and wouls not stop. She had a nice voice and the scene was hilarious!
