& as far as the voices go nobody sounds like the real ones. paul's voice is so soulful it's crazy. eddie's voice is high and sweet and the craziest falsetto i've ever heard. terron tried and let me leave it that. same with D.B he tried and that's it. charles malik never got to sing in the movie and otis shouldn't have gotten to sing in real life eitha. whoo that man cannot sing (my opinion & i'm sticking 2 it) the guy that played al (i 4got his name) he did a good job singing i thought he sounded great. i'm not saying that christian (sexy azz) & terron did a bad job singing cuz they got great voices but as far as sounding like paul & eddie-> those are voices that can't be duplicated as much as u try. leon wasn't singing in the movie but I'm pretty sure that he doesn't sound anything like david. nobody can sound like david that man sang his heart out in every song he sang. he's untouchable. so for me they sound good but nothing like the tempts. i'm being as honest as i can be. ;D

Hello everyone. I'm summer - I'm new here. I love the Temptations, the miniseries and the group. Like alot of you, I spend entirely too much time watching it. It just reminds me of better days. I love the music and the casting and performances were out of sight. I have to admit, you guys have better ears than I do. I actually bought a CD of the real Temptations (the 1960's) hits and have a hard time telling Eddie from Terron. I think that everyone did a fabulous job though.

Have you ever heard Otis sing? I'm just wondering.
You are entitled to your opinion about Otis's singing, but remember, the harmonies wouldn't be that great if Otis couldn't sing, just keep that in mind. ;D

He wasn't a strong lead like the others but he blended very well harmonizing. I know some people who do not have the greatest voices but they sound very good in the background. I also think that he sounds okay when he comes in on I Can't Get Next To You. He is doing that second tenor part in the background of the song All I Need with Eddie on top.

Otis is an excellent singer. He is more of a crooner, and I like that. Otis says he is not a lead singer nor does he have any desire to be a lead singer, but Motown executives say that Otis' voice is what makes the Tempts so good at harmonizing, that he can take over anyone's place in the harmonic structure when that person becomes a lead singer. In other words, Motown executives say that the definitive Temptation sound is created by Otis. I think that Otis is the reason The Temptations have lasted forty plus years; that type of person does all the hard work but is rarely recognized. The person out front gets all the glamor recognition and praise, but the person behind the scenes does all the hard work.
But, aside from all of that, each person has a part to play. And in a five-person group, all five contribute. Although all five can and do sing lead, it is the uniqueness of the Tempts (and Berry Gordy constantly reitereated it) that there was no one consistent lead, all five could and did lead. But each one was so different that it really did make the Tempts unique. Paul did not sound like Eddie, Eddie did not sound like David; David did not sound like Otis, and no one sounded like Melvin. The songs each one led on really could not have been sung as well by any of the others.

Otis' voice was essential to those background harmonies which gave the Tempts their unique sound.

What Jane said... ...and I'll add that my personal appreciation for Otis Williams' vocal talents have only grown with time. No, he won't bleed a song dry like David or carry you away on a cloud like Eddie; nor, will he kick the air out of your lungs like Paul. He doesn't need to. In the background, his voice is an integral part of the "Temptations sound"...the point at which the rough merges with the smooth and the highs blend seemlessly with the lows. On lead, he's got as mellow a tenor as you'll find...perfectly suited for the truly romantic ballads of the late-'40s/early-'50s. Being in a group with such outstanding frontmen may make him appear less talented by comparison to some, but the man most certainly deserves his fair share of credit and praise for the harmonies we come here to celebrate.

What about Charles Ley, the actor who portrayed Dennis Edwards. Did he sing in the movie or lip sync. He is so cute.

CHARLES LEY WAS CUTE TOO. IT'S FUNNY BUT HE "SOUNDS" LIKE HE WOULD THE KIND OF DENNIS VOICE FOR SOME REASON. AS FAR AS OTIS GOES, HE'S ONE HECK OF A BACKGROUND SINGER. NOT EVERYONE IS MADE TO SING LEAD, AND OTIS DID THE JOB TO MAKE SURE THAT THE LEADS WERE SMOOTH AND TOGETHER RIGHT ON!!
