Yeah Christian had a little of that raspy soul that Paul has....Eddie falsetto was sweeter but Terron was much lighter and softer....I dont think they resembled each other at all but I think Terron capture Eddie's mannerisms perfectly which is what great actors do... Well, now see I think of Terron's voice as 'sweeter' than Eddie's, to me Eddie's had a little bit sharper 'edge' to it... but you're the singer so maybe your description is better  . And I agree... the actors captured the 'essences' and mannerisms... Leon had Ruffin nailed even according to David's family members... I think the casting was superb... but the only physical resemblance TO ME was *marginally* Christian resembling Paul, physically and vocally. (yup on the soulful rasp, that's what I noticed) |

Well hey everyone. I'm a new member here & also a new fan of the Temptations(yay for me). Um lets see I'm only 17 so be understanding please. I've loved the songs My Girl & Get Ready since I was fairly young(between ages of 5 & 10). But I never knew who sang those songs till, God I'm gonna get beaten for this, till 3-4 weeks ago!! I know, pathetic but hey I know now & will never forget, I promise!!!! I saw the movie on VH1s movies that rock 3-4 weeks ago & was hooked. On Friday I went out & bought the DVD & 2 of their cds. I know, I'm this huge new fan & only have their movie & 2 cds; I'm a broke/poor teenager so give me me a break please. Anyways, I'm posting cause I have a question & ya'll are clearly a lot more educated on the Temps then I am, though I am learning fast. My question seems to have a lot of debate between all of you but I'd like your answers/opinions all the same. Do the actors in the movie lip-sync? Some of you say they do, others say they don't, some say only on certian songs, etc. I just think that in no way, in any single part of the movie, does it look like their not really singing, Some one said Leon didn't sing at all, explain the part in his apartment were he's like "Ya'll begging me not to leave you, & I refuse to let you go!" He obviously sings that, but sounds like the real David so I'm at a loss. And the song Shout, if the Temps never recorded that song clearly the cast sang it, but yet again Leon sounds like the real David. So if the cast did their own singing, even in just parts or on certian songs; Motown where the hell is their recording contract??!! Oh, I love all the "Classic 5" & the cast members by the way, I just happen to mention or point out David/Leon most cause well, look at my username & I think you'll get the idea. Email me please, respond soon people. I'm leaving on Wensday to go camping for 4 days so respond asap.

Oh ya, they(The Temptations) are coming here(Colorado) on Sept.2cnd to the events center down in Peublo & I'm doing everything humanly possible to get those tickets!!!!!!!!!!

Not to bust any bubbles here, and knowing that Leon DOES sing with his own group (I believe they do reggae), but word on the street is that is Louis Price's voice doing the Ruffin parts that is listed as "actors". Other than that one line of "Ain't Too Proud" that he does in the apartment. It has been said that Leon's voice is not similar enough to Ruffin's to carry a song. Louis was in the Temptations while they were at Atlantic, and did the "Ruffin Leads" in their shows then, along with Richard on occasion. |

Ed I was referring to Richard doing, for example, "My Girl" at their shows during the time Louis was there. Not to mention an (in MY opinion) abominible "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" soon after Ali joined the group. I don't think Richard did anything in the miniseries. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that distinction. |

I think for the most part your list was reasonably accurate. I think IMDB listing was pretty much to differentiate "Tempts" and "NOT Tempts", and where they listed the "actors", for the Ruffin leads the most official documentation I've seen was "session singer" (and I'm sorry, I forget where I saw that). I've HEARD it was Louis, and it sounds similar enough to my ears to be Louis... but I haven't seen anybody connected with the movie say it was Louis. (talking about just the Ruffin leads here... We know that Christian and Terron did the Paul and Eddie leads... and I'm not positive who did the Dennis leads on Cloud 9 or was it Psychedelic shack? either, now that I think about it... haven't played the movie for a while..) As far as that one line of "Ain't Too Proud" in the apartment... Leon gets my vote for having done that. |

Thanks soo much for that LEON site....he's got to be one of the most beautiful men on the planet!! Got any more sites? If so please send them to me =) Anyways, wether Leon sings the David Ruffin leads or not in the movie(Except that "Ya'll begging me not to leave you, & I refuse to let you go" in his apartment which I give full credit to him for!!) he did an amazing job reguardless!!!! Maybe I'll just write to him or his agent & find out for myself from the man himself....trusting/hoping his ego is no were near as large as Davids supposedly was & that he'll tell the truth =) I'll let you guys know if I get a response.

In the meantime, though many disagree with me, for the sake of my hopes...I'm gonna choose to believe that list & say Leon did the David Ruffin singing leads. Just for my own sake people, it's not that I don't trust ya'll. =)

You're not alone, davidruffinlover. My mother believes the same thing and will not take him not singing the songs for an answer. She loves her some Leon too. He has a sort of sexiness about him that made him perfect for playing David Ruffin. But, I think I like Paul (Christian) and Eddie (Terron) better!!

Paul(Christian) & Eddie(Terron) did superbly!! I don't blame ya there =) They were/are outstanding, their voices incredible!! I just happen to love me some Leon more =D He's so damn.....sexy, & confident. He owns everything he does, & I have NEVER seen anyone soo hott in glasses!!!!!!!!!! I'll except him not singing the songs for an answer only if it comes from his mouth(again hoping his ego ain't as large as Davids & he'll speak the truth). Otherwise, I'm sticking to my wishful thinking theory of he did the David leads hisself.
