Ok, I'd been meaning to do this for a while. For those of you who like to talk about your animals as much as I do........... (and feel free to post photos if you want.) Here are my Daniel and my Effie.......... They are (at least) six and (at least) three. I adopted them as adults and don't know how old they really are. Effie's favorite activities are sleeping and cuddeling (with me.) Daniel likes to chase toy mice and eat (and that pictures shows it, big fat boy.) Effie will NOT let me leave the house until I have an adequit amount of cat hair on my black work clothes. He also likes to "dance" with me when he hears music playing. He comes and stands next to me wanting to be petted. Daniel is very smart and pretty vocal. I swear he says my name. He yawns when he gets excited. His one great character flaw is ........ well......... let's just say that Mr. Ivory jokes that Bush is looking for chemical weapons in the wrong place. Instead of Iraq, he needs to be looking in Daniel's litter box. ;D

This is Scrootey. I lost her to kitty breast cancer two years ago. If Diana Ross was a cat, she would have been Scrootey. Tiny little thing, only weighed four pounds but HUGE attitude. She was very sweet to humans but HATED other cats. The bad part was that I adopted her to be a companion to Effie. She fought with him all the time. Her name comes from the word "Inscrutable" meaning "mysterious." Her full name was "The Inscrutable Witchie-Poo's Lament." "Witchie-Poos Lament" was a song from the movie "PuffinStuff" and always thought that sounded cool. Of course there was the obvious witch/black cat connection. Scrootey was a human in a cats form, I'm convinced. She'd eat anything from fettuchini to popcorn and when she wanted me she would LITERALLY tap me on the shoulder.

I had a chow mix dog named Candy when my son was little. She had 5 puppies that we named Zeus, Apollo, Mercury, Hercules, and Venus. I loved those names - and the puppies looked a lot like German Shepherds - huge! My son had a cat named "Panthor" when he was into He-Man action figures. With my son's middle name being D'Artagnan, we also had an Irish Setter named Aramis - another Musketeer. Never got around to Athos or Porthos. I'll have to post a photo of my baby... Lab/Pit Bull mix - Midnight... when I get home. She is soooooo spoiled. Very intelligent and very playful.

Great thread Ivory...I was about to start that one but I didn't know if we had a lot of pet people aboard. Now you know I have some stories and pics, since we just got Ginger 3 weeks ago. She's part American Eskimo and part Pomeranian...cute dog. We got her at 6 mos. old and she's the sweetest thing..(most of the time). Meaning, she has chewed through the cross bars of 3 out 4 of my cherry dining chairs . We have her a crate now and LOTS of chew toys, so hopefully we won't have that drama anymore. She came home with sneezing, coughing and of all things in HEAT ...aaaaghh. So you can imagine the time and $$$$'s spent for her...just couldn't bring myself to take her back. She's been medicated and scheduled for training and spaying...Hallelujah.

I am scared. I hear the Twilight Zone theme playing. I had an all black cat, too, Ivory....that was Tyler. Sweetest thing...... We just have Lily now. Where I live, there is a "one pet rule" which is a joke....no one sees my cat! She bothers no one but us! We also have a community dog. Coco is my mom's dog, but because she lives a door away, we borrow her for the night. She sleeps with Anna on Mon/Wed/Fri. So it's like visitation. ;D But she is very old and has arthritis.... she hasn't been doing well lately and we are worried. The thought of her dying. Makes me so sad to even think of..... say a prayer for her, because I know God answers prayers, even about doggies! Anna would be crushed without her "sister." Peach

Milli the cat rules the roost at our house. I adopted her 3yrs ago (she's about 6 now), and from the day she crossed the threshold she's been the sweetest, lovable, cuddliest, pigeon-killing cat there is!........ ;D Milli will cuddle with you for hours, but she's got this thing about birds, especially pigeons. She's taken out a couple that had the misfortune to land on our terrace (thank goodness my husband got home before I did - she had beheaded it and left it on the living room floor...... :hairraiser: There's also been evidence on the terrace that she probably snatched a few of them bald (somewhere in Brooklyn there are a couple of bald pigeons flying around......). Milli also will eat anything from soup to nuts (if I let her), her fav is smoked turkey, chicken, cheese and an occasional collard green....... ;D Yes, we "belong" to Milli and that's just how it should be.......

Hey, here's a question for Ivory...how did you take a picture of your cats without their eyes glowing!!? Every picture I take of Lily, her eyes look like devil eyes. And the funny thing is they glow 2 different colors. (Because one eye is blue, and one is sort of green...just slightly different.) And, if I did have a picture, how would I post it? It's only saved on my hard drive and that doesn't seem to work.

Where I live, there is a "one pet rule" which is a jokeThat is too bad because I think everyone who has a pet should have at least two (well, and depending on the size of their house, at most two as well.) I think animals do better when they have something else they can relate to. Not to mention the fact that SO MANY dogs and cats are put to sleep simply because there's no one to take them. They kill 30 dogs and cats a day in my county simply because the shelter has no room for them and no one else wants them. Which makes me even MORE angry at people who get exotic pets. Like this whole prarie dog monkey pox thing. Grrrrrr!!! The worse thing a cat's gonna do to you is leave you picking hair off of your clothes all day. (Effie's standing on my chair behind me as I type this, he says "hey!") But anyway, even though I'm allowed two cats I had to pay out the nose for them in deposits etc. for the apartment. I'm also required to have them declawed but fortunately they don't enforce that part of the lease. I am VEHEMENTLY against declawing. It forces cats to have to walk unnaturally and it's wrong to punish them because WE are too lazy to train them right. My cats don't claw up my furniture. They're trained where to claw and where not to claw. Yes, you CAN train a cat. They are SMARTER than dogs ........... and most men. ;D she had beheaded it and left it on the living room floorBugs, you should consider that as an honor! They say that's a cats way of contributing to the family's needs. Seriously, they say you're supposed to praise them and dispose of it out of their sight.

Classic, we can't see Ginger. Peach, I take them without the flash and have to tweak them on the computer. You can tell the one photo of Daniel and Effie is a little grainy because I didn't use a flash. The one of Scrootey was taken with a regular SLR and I had to take the green out that the flourescent light cast. The one of Daniel on the suitcase in the other thread I tweaked (his eyes) with my photo software. Now as far as how to post photos .......... it's about time that I posted instructions on how to do that. So in a minute I"ll start a thread in the "Technical" area so we'll all know. But first............... I need to eat a piece of cheese!!!

I would get another cat in an instant if I could. But the landlords are like the Gestapo. I haven't declawed Lily, either.... and she isn't too destructive with her claws. Plus, she sits so nice for me when she gets them trimmed. ;D (Except the back ones....she is a little grouchy when I do those.) She does "knead" on the carpet occasionally, but leaves the furniture alone. Peach
