Yeah, I'm sure ther are having this little prom because they love people of color to death. I'm pretty sure that, sukka wouldn't bring us a story that had no foundation in truth. Anyway, why don't you just ask sukka for the article?

Racism is disgusting and narrow-minded and I don't want to have anything to do with racists. What they don't realize is that in the real world, you have to deal with people of all races, religions, and nationalities. If you work and go to school, you can't ignore people who are different.
And I agree that racism occurs in any area, not just the south. But I also don't agree with people who says that racism today is JUST AS BAD as it was before the civil rights marches of the 60s. It may not be perfect, but some progress has been made.

I didn't say anything about that. I said that if they paid for it, they could invite whomever they wanted to. It was private. I'm not advocating racism, but I am trying to figure out how many times I may have gotten together with a group of people, we were all the same race. Our only intention was to have a good time and not to exclude anyone.
Can't quite remember where I said he would.
Oh, I thought you had read it. You seemed so informed and everything.
So sukkafu, where's the article?

Well, those kids have a lot to learn. Selfish did say they were hurting themselves with this type of behavior (I think) and I'm inclined to agree with that.
I thought this was funny :
That's a shame.

I never once claimed that I knew about this situation. I was talking about tolerance. All I did was apply my knowledge and beliefs of tolerance to the informations given. There is a difference.

Oh, okay. But I did get the feeling that you were implying that you knew the reason they were having their own prom.
That's what I was looking at.

all i know is that last year there was a big ballyhoo about the fact that this school finally had an integrated prom in 2002!!! then this year they're going back to where they were!
that's why i was aghast at this- with all the liberality of things these days, that some crackers want to be wacked out on color.
tolerance is only a bandaid placed upon a wound that needs major surgery to remove the cancer that hate is.

Sukka, Tolerance is not bandaid. Tolerance is just as mask. A bandaid, no matter how large or small is made to help. If the bandaid is wrong, then you can try and find another bandaid. And the wrong bandaid is usally better than none. but a mask is not there to help nor heal. A mask is there to fool. People who wear masks know thier own truth and reality but are there to decieve you. But after a while people choose not to wear thier masks or forget to put them on. these people are people who hate and fear and loathe.

here are 3 dictionaries definitions of the word tolerance=
merriam-webster--sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one's own.
cambridge oxford dictionary- willingness to accept behaviour and beliefs which are different from your own, although you might not agree with or approve of them.
webster thesaurus- acceptance, broadmindedness, charity, fairness, forbearance, leniency, forgiveness, openness, openmindedness, patience, permissiveness, suffrance, sympathy, understanding, allowance.
HYPE- these don't sound anything like the way you feel tolerance is. it sounds like the official definitons of tolerance preach love and understanding. i agree with the above mentioned items.

I was so mad about this whole thing when I heard about it this morning. I asked my mom if the government could do something or at least have SOMEBODY to SOMETHING because the whole idea is just RETARDED! But as for the whole racism in the south thing, I can see it, and I'm not in the south. There's a hallway at school where only mexicans hang out, and if you walk down it, people'll be like "I'm gonna cut you" and crap like that. And I don't remember who was talking about the horrors of the 60's and stuff , and how we've come a long way in that , but I agree and it really gets on my nerves when people are racist because of what went on then. Oh, I would have been there if I were alive in the 60's, but I would have been on MLK's side. And I didn't mean to offend anybody with anything I wrote and if I did, I'm sorry!

so far only diva has responded. i would like angel niece, dnice and kanabul who also live in the region to respond.
they're closer to the action than i am in san diego. southern niece and tdalgalpal are surrounding it.

Dude, I'm not going to argue with the dictionary. Thought the second one from the cambridge says "willingness to accept behaviour and beliefs which are different from your own, although you might not agree with or approve of them." which comes pretty close. Because it says that you accept the behavior and beliefs, with out agreeing or approving. That means to put up with. The word accept that is being used is in the context of regarding as permissible or allowable. Which is not the same accept as to regard as usual or proper or to agree.
Now, I've got some definitions of the word from various dictionaries myself.
Tolerate - (american heritage) To allow without prohibiting or opposing; permit. (this means not stopping) To put up with; endure
Tolerance - (american heritage) The capacity for or practice of recognizing and respecting the opinions. practices or behavior of others..(This suggests that tolerence is merely an action predicated by ability or will to put up with.)
Tolerable - (american Heritage) Allowable; Permissible. Fair or aedquate. Passable.
Tolerance - (Oxford) The willingness or ability to tolerate as person or a thing.(This suggests that tolerence is merely an action predicated by ability or will)
Tolerate - (Oxford) To permit without protest or interference.
Accept - (oxford) take willingly; say yes to an offer or invitation. Undertake (a respinsibilty). Treat as welcome. Agree to. Take as true. see more than one definition for a word and we use them all
Permissible - that can be permitted; allowable.
Tolerance (webster) a : sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one's own b : the act of allowing something : (see it says sympathy or indlugence, not and indulgence is also says to allow, not agree)
Tolerance (Webster Revised Unabridged) \Tol"er*ance\, n. [L. tolerantia: cf. F. tol['e]rance.] 1. The power or capacity of enduring; the act of enduring; endurance.
2. The endurance of the presence or actions of objectionable persons, or of the expression of offensive opinions; toleration.
These dictionary defitions don't exactly support the idea of Love and understanding, but just putting up with the joneses. I didn't add my sociology defintions or defintions from other books, cuz I think it's probably best we stick to dictionaries. It's generic and not too specific. I think the point is that insided the definitions are defintions. The context.
