But I thought the purpose of the All-Star weekend was to let the guys have fun, loosen up a bit, and get ready for the second half of the season.

Which is what the other 200 players in the NBA are doing! The NBA All Star game is an exhibition, which is great. Players having fun being teammates for a day is fine. I like that. The other stuff doesn't add a thing to the proceedings. And MJ probably would want to be at the Bellagio this weekend anyway.

My Gladys Knight rant... It's easier for Gladys to appear for a sec at the All-Star game than it is for TNT to give her a special where she can sing for an hour?

I thought the purpose the All Star game was to make money? Do they still give proceeds to the Players Association?

They still give money to the Players Association and the three days which consist of over three hundred fund raisers for various organization throughout the host city raises great amounts of money. Player attend these functions during the day and party at night. It has turned into a tremendous event, one in which baseball is trying desparately to imitate.

SS see sometime you have to weed through the unwanted to get what you want. By the way...what's wrong with the NBA? They are just a microism of today's world. You get what you pay for. All this hip-hop stuff may not be what we like but today's folks do. So you judst go with it. You take early entry from them and the league might become better. But you keep letting younger and younger players in(Lebron James) who are not ready for prime time and you get what you get. By the way SS I don't put any stock into the allstar game but last night's game was the best this generation of players have put out. They played hard, they played D and except through the second quarter played the game the way it should be played. It's just an all star game voted on by people like you and me that's all. The world won't change because of the all star game. But as a former player who has been disappointed in the past with the way today's game is played have to give them some props for this weekend. I feel like these players don't have the knowledge of the game I had but I sure as hell didn't have the skills they have today.

It's not the players, for the most part. The thing that makes me want to watch the World Poker Open on ESPN2 is the show around the players and the game. The networks interrupt a game with all kinds of other stuff, and expect you to like it. Because if you don't like it, you are out of time. And people hate to be out of time. This is what the networks are counting on, to retain viewers. As for selling your skills short, I bet you can execute a drop step move or box out a man with your butt and back better than most in the league right now! So don't give me that stuff about your skills.
