I like MJ. He was completely surrounded by hype back in the day, but didn't somebody here once say that Muhammad Ali said that it's not hype if you live up to it? It was like that for me watching Mike. I liked watching him (and others) because I was looking for something exciting to happen (that actually takes skill): a crossover, a fadeaway, something. Still, I feel like he should've stayed retired this time around.

there was an article in the paper about the disappearance of the sky hook and how it should be used again in the nba. kareem was the king of that shot. unstoppable. what a terrific center. i love shaq, but kareem, wilt, russell, willis reed and moses were my favorites of all time.
shaq's free throwing is much improved. the other night he hit 8 out of 10, mike!
i also like to a lesser degree- david robinson in the early 90's, dikembe mutombo when he was on denver, alonzo mourning before these injuries, wes unseld-the charles barkley of the 60's, dave cowens-the smart center, artis gilmore, george mikan, nate thurmond, arvidas sabonis a few yrs ago, jack sikma, kevin duckworth.

*Against Hype Alert**Against Hype Alert* As much as I liked MJ, I wasn't enthralled with him the way a lot of people are. The Michael Jordan Basketball Show, hosted by Ahmad Rashad, was unbearable to watch at times, because of the hype. It's often, not the person, but the hype around him that gets crazy. I didn't think NBC knew ten players in the NBA not named Jordan and not in NYC. That's not to say that MJ wasn't a great player, he was. Sorta like the Barry Bonds Baseball Show, where I see how FOX tells me how BB reinvented MLB. But the FOX people are idiots anyway...

Why am I speaking of MJ in the past tense?

I knew I really knew you SS. I felt the same way about the MJ traveling show. I think they were playing BB before he played. Wasn't there some guy named Dr. J. who could deliver the goods too?

ABA, You talking about a doctor who looked like he was 6'10", because of his hair? A doctor, before he would operate, would put his hands together in any kind of weather, which meant he was getting ready to do the job? A doctor, when operating, wore that knee sleeve with the hole for his knee cap? A doctor, when making his housecalls, could charge 30/20 anytime he wanted? He should be Chief Of Staff, now!

He could tell you he was going left, and you still couldn't stop him.
One of the greatest scorers ever. The dunk he made against the Pistons in the playoffs is as spectacular a play as you'll ever see.

ABA and Soul Stirrer I got so sick and tired of Ahmad jocking MJ every Saturday too! I'm not putting MJ down but he didn't impress me the way the Dr did. I feel that Julius changed the way basketball was played. BTW ABA GO NETS!! GO BYRON..... GO BYRON.... GO BYRON!!! I LOVES ME SOME BYRON SCOTT!!! This of course goes back to my SHOWTIME days what a great alumni!! Magic, Kareem, James Worthy, Byron Scott, Michael Cooper, Kurt Rambis, AC Green, Michael Thompson, Norm Nixon, Jamal Wilkes they were a great team of course the center of greatness was because of Magic and Kareem but the supporting cast were great nonetheless.
