how many folks were eliminated on it ? how many contestants do they start out with? i will never watch any shows on the tube, so i figured i'd ask the expert.

I think Simon said there were like 40,000 people trying out in all of the cities (combined) that they wen to.

but on the first show there's not 40,000 contestants ,right? so what do they start out with-50,100,20,?
how many per show get dumped?
how many weeks til you get down to a kelly clarkson?

If I sang on that show... they'd cut me right away. Listening to some of them only made me realize how bad I was... compared to plain awful. But hey! No one complains about Bob Dylan!

I watch American Idol, and some of those people are terrible!!! Simon makes that very obvious. One dude was singing *Nsync's "Gone", and in the middle of it Simon was like "and so are you, goodbye." And I was sooo disappointed to see the lack of talent in Detroit. The host was standing in front of the famous Hitsville builiding for likre 5 minutes describing Motown and Detroit's background. As soon as I saw it I started pointing and yelling... "I've been there, I've been there!" ;D. Thats where it all started baby!
