(MikeNYC) Thanks for the FYI. I saw David and Eddie as a duo appearing at Westbury Music Fair with Bobby Womack in the late 80's. Do you know Womack's '94 release "Resurrection"? He has a cut on it titled "Forever Love" which he dedicates to David and Eddie, as he calls them in the intro, "The greatest singers of ALL TIME"!!!!! . Forever Love!!!!!!!

((AnnaKonda)) I wish you could too. I've never heard that and it sounds like something you should check out for your own before you throw it out here casting aspersions on Bobby Womack. If it's true then I guess you're correct with your comment "%^&%& Forever Love". But here you are repeating something that you don't even remember where you heard or read it........I wish you could too

I think I've read somewhere that Bobby Womack introduced David to cocaine If that's true, well then ... to @#&) with "Forever Love." I wish I could cite the source I've read or heard the same thing AnnaK (again, I'm sourceless, but I think it was an interview with Bobby)...but consider this. David was born in 1941, Bobby in 1944. At the time he/they would have been beginning to fool around with that stuff, the 3 year age difference would have seemed huge...if David didn't want it, a kid 3 years younger than him couldn't have forced it on him. David was street-smart from the get-go, had been on the road from age 6 by some reports...so if it wasn't Bobby, there were lots of others who could have "introduced" him. Bottom line...David was responsible for his own actions. Not Bobby Womack or any other Womack Brother, nor anybody else. (and certainly not Otis Williams ;D). (and my understanding is that Bobby has paid the price with his own addictions for many years). Bobby loved David, and "Forever Love" is a nice tribute... Bobby also did a song called "Trust Your Heart" featuring David .

I wish I could cite the source I read that Bobby used drugs with David Ruffin also. I remember my source of information. It came from an article that was on Bobby's website.

Now the reference is that they "used" drugs together. What is it? Bobby turned David on to the insidious world of drug addiction or he got high with him on occasion? I mentioned a song and a concert appearance that demonstrated an affection between two (add Eddie and it's three) great singers. As ((Kalisa)) states the song is very nice tribute IMO. Stevie played with Bobby on the "Resurrection" CD in '94, so I guess he got over the "rumours" or "facts" about Bobby and David's drug use. I'm sure there are other well known personalities" who've been involved with David or others and would take that info to the grave with them. Bobby opers up and now you demonized him? Why does it always have to come back to David getting high? I was talking about the music that's all.........Peace

So was everyone else until the mention of a rumor that Bobby introduced David to the drug......However I believe all that Kallisa was saying is why put the blame on somebody else when you are responsible for your own actions....She was just trying to cooberate a story AnnKonda believed she had heard...........that's all.........I have that lp and I like that song and Bobby Womack. Hell there are the stories about him and Sam Cooke's wife and many other rumors abound concerning celebrites............what's the point.....its too late to change what happened tro these people and as far as trying to save someone's reputation...........none of us here are in a position to do that!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Dope pushers do not deserve to be absolved from their guilt. They are knowingly endanger others lives.
And Kalisa, saying that if not Bobby then others may have turned David on to drugs, is no excuse for him having done it. It's the same as if telling someone whose loved one has been hit by one drunk driver, that it doesn't really matter who's done it because, if not this one, maybe another one might have done it. There are plenty of drunkards on our roads. Nope! Bobby and all the others like him deserve a slap in the face not a pat on the back.
I think Bobby must be considered one of the "riff-raff" friends of David's that Otis described in his book.

If Bobby Womack introduced David to coke, that's not saying that it was Bobby's fault, just saying that David was introduced to it by Bobby. No more,no less. Otis is another matter altogether.

This thread ain't about drugs. It's about a show! How did drugs get into the picture? best I can see, AnnaK introduced us to drugs in this thread,( just as Bobby W may have introduced David to drugs LOL!) by bringing up the rumor of the Bobby/David/Drug connection, and refusing to stick with or even listen to the music ("Forever Love") because of the above mentioned rumor that she just had to bring up. Not blaming anybody but there it is.

Yes. I am guilty of that sin. ;D I tied the drug issue to the title of the CD ... and things developed from there. I am sorry.
