Hey (((LotaTemp))))! Welcome to the board!!
Unless you know the whole story behind (((G.C.))) becoming a member of the Temptations, you can't say "GC was brought on to do the leads so that they could maintain the traditional sound on the older songs." I think it just so HAPPENED that G.C. has that sound. Just like when ((((Barrington)))) joined the Temptations in 1998 when the "Phoenix Rising" cd came out, it just so HAPPENED that BO's voice is similar to (((Theo)))'s. From hearing BO live at the concerts, there were fans, me included, that thought it was BO on "Phoenix Rising".
The only way you can say "I think Terry was leading a lot to suffice for what a recent lead singer didn't carry" is if there was nothing wrong with Terry's voice. You can only suggest that if Terry's voice wasn't straining. I think when Terry was leading alot the Tempts were showing us the Temptations having three lead singers. And if you're familiar with the Temptations' concerts, Terry had as many leads as BO did. Terry led "Papa", "Confusion", and "Some Enchanted Evening", and BO led "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "Wish It Would Rain" "Treat Her Like A Lady", and "My Girl".
I don't think the tour was to promote the "My Girl" cd. That 2cd set has been out a long while now!! At the end of the second disk "Lady" is on there from "Awesome", so I think the cd wanted to bring attention to that cd too. TTYL!
