The reviews from the Great Groups concerts are beginning to come in. Each does a 45 minute set.
One review I read said all acts were good, and The Temptations came out last.
The reviewer said that when they came out they exuded confidence and coolness. She said in essence their utterly confident walk said, "We're not going to compete with the others. We're just going to do what we do best." And they did, overwhelming the others. She too loved "My Girl" sung straight and found GC could also do what David Ruffin did, sing, talk to the audience, laugh, and sing without missing a note. But she said Harry and Otis were not constantly watching GC now, but when he did something special they looked over and smiled. I guess the new Tempt is becoming more assured.

Here it is... this review is by G ELAINE - from the QuickTopicTemptations Concert Review Board " Hey Temptations Fans!
Where do I begin?? As we all know there is a very good reason this concert is billed as “Great Groups”. Each group added some extra spice and flavor to their hit songs from the way I have seen them perform the songs previously. After all the years, singing groups’ competition is alive and well, thank you very much…LOL. I may have mentioned that among the 4 groups, DJs in this area play songs by the other 3 more than the songs of The Temptations. However, each group appeared for 45 minutes in the following order:
The WHISPERS wearing light burgundy suits with long jackets and shoes with white shirts, are from the East Bay Area and they showed out for their families and friends. They challenged the other groups by singing their songs well, nice choreography and turning on the party lights. The brothers (or cousins) are the original voices.
The FOUR TOPS are still a group to be reckoned with and Theo adds something special. They wore all black with light burgundy, shiny jackets. (((((((THEO))))))) I love you with your gorgeous, talented self…hahaha. They serenaded us and had women screaming Theo’s name by the time they left the stage.
The O’JAYS broke out on stage with a burst of excitement that did not wane until they were gone. Wearing light grey over shirts with matching pants, Walter walked in the spotlight, center stage with a matching wide-brimmed hat, Eric danced on from one side and Eddie’s powerful voice boomed from the other side. Whoaa! Folks jumped up, screamed and danced during their entire show and The O’Jays earned that kind of reception big time. My sister said, “Do you think The Tempts should have appeared before these guys?” I said, “Of course not! The Tempts got this”. (No, I am not letting her go with me again…LOL)
Our guys, The TEMPTATIONS, came on stage with a swagger that spoke volumes. They exhibited the kind of confidence and elegance that stated loudly “We won’t compete with you by trying to do what you do, we will compete by doing what we do better than anyone else.”…hahaha. I told my sister, “These guys are ready”. I think the guys may have arrived on the coast of S.F. where the weather is cool and deceptive, but the venue is 30-40 miles inland where it is hot as heck. They wore some uniforms I have not seen. The suits are black, trimmed with wide strips of white on the jackets and down the side of the pants. The jackets are long and the shirts are a black and white animal print. The shoes are black and white and they wore silver belt buckles. WHEW! Anyway, about halfway through the show they took the jackets off to be a little cooler. The guys looked comfortable and GC, Harry, Terry, Otis and Ron were on top of their games. Harry and Otis turned their attention back to charming, flirting and smiling with the ladies and were not keeping that protective watch on GC. When GC would hit a high note or do something uniquely GC they would quickly look over at him and smile…haha. They were striding across that stage in the Classic 5 Tradition as if they owned it and as far as we were concerned, they did. I don’t usually compare, or think of how a new member of the Tempts compare with the Classics. I try to accept new members based on their talent and how it fits the Temptations image. But I did think of David Ruffin when GC was singing David lead songs. (My opinion, for what it is worth). GC can laugh, thank you and keep singing without missing a beat, and previously, I thought only David could do that… “Since I Lost My Baby” and Ron singing “I’ll Be in Trouble” are still highlights in the show. This time when GC came over and said something to Terry he stood up, kneeled again and kept singing. It was as if Terry was explaining to GC how he truly missed his baby. WOW!!! They did not have time to do “Enchanted Evening” or “Treat Her Like a Lady”…boo hoo. (Oops, "Treat Her" is playing on the radio as I am writing.) But the real treat is when they ended by singing “My Girl” straight up. I got my wish!!!! They did the entire song the way it is supposed to be sung. I enjoyed that beyond words…sigh. And so did the crowd because everyone was up and dancing as the Temptations danced off the stage leaving a smile on our faces. As we were leaving the parking lot I could hear Tempts music playing in the automobiles… The Tempts are still mesmerizing. My sister said she didn’t think they could stand up to the challenge from the O’Jays, but they pulled in off. “The Tempts were great” she said…hahaha. (((((((((((((((Ron, Otis, Harry, Terry, GC, Al)))))))))))) Wonderful show, I love y’all."

Do you think the guys listened to fans pleas to stop using fans singing my girl?? I hope so I really want to hear G.C do that. Iam so glad he is fitting in well, I think it was a good decision on the temps to get G.C like I said I think its brought a little more depth and meaning to the temps having one of the original motowners back with them. GO G.C U DA MAN

well tonight is the tempts/tops at humphrey's by the bay! i won't be going! i won't pay $75 dollars for a 36th row ticket which is all that's left- plus it's $8 for parking and $5 for a slice of pizza! or it's $122 bucks for a ticket that includes dinner! i wouldn't pay that much for any concert anywhere, much less 3 originals out of 9 !
(otis, obie, and duke)

When are they supposed to be at the fair, tf14? I don't see it on their tourdate schedule and the date the Stylistics are performing the Tempts schedule shows them to be in Indianapolis. www.rontyson.com/tourdates.htmlwww.scfair.com/concerts.htmlI don't see anything on Dennis Edwards and the Temptations Review schedule for that date, so there IS the possibility it might be them you would be seeing...and THEY are well worth seeing, I might add . But its always good to know who you'll be seeing ahead of time.

The Tempts two new outfits, worn on July 12 and July 13th, are really pacesetters.
I expected no less.
I've seen some of the other groups beginning to imitate the Tempts attire. It's really hard to be a leader.

Somehow I don't think the pictures I posted are from the concert reviewed above, the uniform descrip. doesn't match, but oh well, close enough.
THOSE uniforms I like like. The back and white ones had too much going on.

The jackets are too long! I haven't seen jackets like these since Kool & The Gang made Funky Stuff, back in 1973 ! I hope the rest of the groups DON'T try to copy that. I KNOW one who won't! They are too old for Kool & The Gang suits. :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing:

Jane, don't you worry that the Tempts might be being too trendy, you know what you were talking about the other day?
