[glow=purple,2,300]Story by Jonel, illustrations by Ivory[/glow]
There is a long and storied traditon among the Tempts internet fans. It is a tradition of not only written reviews, but, so called, artistic ones as well. Don't ask for an explantion because there is none. Just sit back and enjoy! (Hint: letting your eyes lose focus like on those 3-D posters might help your appreciation of the drawings below!) ;D - Ivory
Before meeting Jonel and Mr. Jonel, Ivory FLS, and FLS cat Misty get ready to leave by doing the last logical thing you do before you leave the house for a road trip, paint their nails!
It was a cloudy day…but good driving weather. Around 10:30 a.m. we headed up, I-81 and to I-66 towards D.C. I had printed directions from the internet which really helped and we made it to our hotel at 2:30 p.m. with ease. It was a no-frills establishment and we quickly settled in. Hubby took a quick nap and I freshened up and pondered over what to wear. Since the weather threatened to be a little damp, I opted for a pair of black crepe slacks and a sleeveless, black cotton sweater with rainbow stripes. I made a few phone calls. I knew that Ivory had made reservations for dinner for 5 at Clyde’s at Tysons Corner and she called around 4:30 and confirmed from my voice mail message that they were in fact waiting on us. We drove the quick mile down Leesburg Pike and found both Fair Lady Soul and Ivory sipping their drinks and ready to order.
Ivory tries some of FLS's Bloody Mary. Ivory discovers she does not like Bloody Mary's.
They both looked beautiful, happy and hungry. Dinner was relaxing and delicious and my husband enjoyed entertaining three ladies until it was time to head to the theatre at 7.
Jonel, Mr. Jonel, FLS and Ivory enjoy a yummy dinner surrounded by a risque mural.
We made to the Wolf Trap parking lot in view of the Filene Center around 7:30 and FLS expertly parked her sedan next to a Jaguar. Although the Jaguar’s lights were still on, the driver assured hubby that they would automatically shut off and we headed up the hill, noting exactly where the car was parked in a sea of vehicles. Once inside the gate and a quick trip to the bathroom, we parted ways with FLS and Ivory, who found their seats closer to the front. Row T, seats 14 & 15 while still in the orchestra section, were a little further back, but we found them and a good clear view of the stage. We still had about 15 minutes until showtime, so I stood up to wave them where we were. There was another lady with them, also waving, so I went down to see who it was. It was ((((PUFF-BABY)))). It was great to meet Puff and we all chatted about ‘ol times. Just a few minutes longer then a local radio announcer came on to introduce The Temptations’ band. I recognized, Kerry, Adrian, Vic, Buster & Al. I later found that the brass ensemble was The Carolina Horns. The band was top notch….excellent in every way.
No sooner was I back to my seat with hubby than the introduction of “Awesome” and the Temptations headed for the microphones. They were dressed in candy pink with white satin shirts (both were drenched with sweat in short order). All the coats were buttoned at first, but it wasn’t long before Harry’s fell loose and open. It became apparent from the beginning that Ron was having problems doing the choreography, and later in the set, Otis explained that Ron had broken his toe while in Livermore, California, three weeks earlier. So, things didn’t look quite as precise as usual, but Ron did his best to participate on the less strenuous steps.
Harry booms on, O charms the ladies, Ron puts on some more comfortable, yet very unsightly shoes, Terry is amazing as usual, and Bo's pant leg stayed stuck in his boot which drove Ivory CRAZY!!
They did “The Way You Do the Things You Do”, “Get Ready”, “Treat Her Like A Lady”, “Standing on the Top”, “Just My Imagination”, “Stay”, “Four Days”, “My Girl”, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”, “Who Wants to Be Like The Joneses”, but my favorite was “Ol’ Man River”…….ahhhhhhh!! Nothing can describe the beautiful harmonies and the deep booming bass…thrilling. I’m so glad I finally got to hear/see them do this one. Live. Otis spoke briefly about the updated version of his autobiography, due out August 15. The concert was over too soon and the Tempts shook hands with the crowd and went offstage. (continued in next post)
