I know what Tasha meant, but I think we often lock ourselves in a time frame and refuse to listen or examine something new and different. When we do that we limit ourselves. We may always prefer a certain period or genre for whatever reasons, but we should always be open to change. And certainly jazz is a genre where people do that.
I think the Motown "expert" might explain far better than I can his musical reasons for his comments. Unfortunately he is not alive now. I give the "expert" the credit for having the training, the knowledge and the muscianship to make such a statement. Someone else might feel differently, but I think it is interesting to hear how the Temptations developed musically and with stage presence. We all like different sounds.
Everyone has a different opinon, and our opinion seems to be all we need for our own personal enjoyment. Remember the record "Three Tenors" with the world's foremost three operatic tenors. People say "This tenor is the best," or "That tenor is the best." As for me, they all sound terrific to me. I like the voice of whichever one is singing at the moment. There may be other operatic tenors whose voices I would not like, but picking the best one out of the world's top three is impossible for me.

ok janebse i understand what u're saying but what I'm trying to say is that I'm not really interested in the group after 3 of my faves left the group which are: Paul, Eddie, and of course David. I don't really like the group becuz in my opinion they never really recovered after they left. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I'm not close-minded it's just that I prefer listening to them when Paul, Eddie, David were in the group. I know what u mean when u say that we can't lock ourselves to a time frame but for me it works. lol. I don't know it's just that the group doesn't do anything for me after these three left. So that's why I just listen to The Tempts material from this time frame & I'd rather limit myself to this time frame rather than listening to music that they're doing now and waste my time and money by buying the albums. u get me? I think Tasha's just saying that she prefers the music recorded by the lineups of the C5 and the original four with Dennis. I can't disagree with her...though, there were some pretty good Ali Woodson songs. The working title of the DVD specifies that only performances from 1965-1972 will be included, so she should be thrilled! Oh, and... "One Motown expert said that David did not make them better..."That individual should be kicked in the groin. yea Beej u get what I was trying to say I am really excited becuz then I don't have to worry about seeing the group nowadays (that I don't like) and see the Group that I do like. I'd rather buy a video that has what I like in it rather than a video that has the Tempts now and only have a lil bit of the HOF6 cuz that would suck for me.

He shouldn't be kicked in the groin, he should be commended, no one man made this group better, they all did.

My favorite Tempts line up is also the C5 but I enjoy their live performances now. They have made some very good songs after 72. For example, Treat Her Like A Lady, Stay, and Soul To Soul to name a few.

Ali can flat out SANG!!!
That brother ain't messin' around when he steps out front. "Lady Soul" and "Treat Her Like A Lady" are two standouts from the 'electronic drums' era that I can honestly say I enjoy listening to. Good stuff!
I'd put Ali in the Top-3 as far as Temptations' frontmen go...a very gifted natural talent.

Dang, I'm kinda disappointed. I already have more than half of these...though, not at DVD quality. Most of the early clips mentioned are just lip-synched "performances." I'm assuming this "I Wish It Would Rain" is in color, as opposed to the b/w version that's been floating around for years. What the hey! It's mostly the C5...I'll buy it.

Lip Sync'd mostly yes, but hopefully the acapellas will be featured like on Marvin's DVD. They have already been released on the Karaoke CD's but these would be sure to include the background vocals as well
