Maybe Motown is just doing it the cheap way as they did when the mini series was aired the first time. O writes in his book that the sales of "Anthology: The Best of the Temptations jumped from number 14,000 to number 4. Interestingly," he adds, "the sales for this book also jumped on amazon--all the way up to number84--even though the book had been out of print for about eight years ..." ;D Y'all just wait and see!

What are we waiting for Anna? Oh and Ed, I've seen the CD displayed prominently at Borders here in the L.A. area.

What are we waiting for Anna? Another book and movie. Oh and Ed, I've seen the CD displayed prominently at Borders here in the L.A. area. Maybe Motown(really Universal) is ready to put the Tempts to rest as well. Well, I think we are waiting for a sudden burst of album sales after the mini series has been aired a second time ... Of course, only if my assumption was correct. ;D I was just remembering that part of O's book.

On CNN!?!?! Why on Earth would Motown bother with buying time on CNN?!?!? Was the cooking channel all booked up? Music fans undoubtedly watch CNN from time to time but why wouldn't Motown go where the music is? Why not advertise on the music channels? Motown has blown this on so many fronts that it ceases to be funny. Let's look at the facts, shall we? 1. They released one single ("50/50 Love") to radio with no promotion 2. When it tanked, they released another (the far superior "Something Special") a mere three months later - again with no fanfare. 3. They didn't produce a video for either single. 4. As far as I know, there are no store displays anywhere. 5. There haven't been any talk show appearances to promote it. 6. The All Music Guide (http://www.allmusic.com) grouped "Legacy" with the other "greatest hits" compilations in their discography - furthering the misconception that there is no new record. They also have no review which leads me to believe that very few promo copies of this album were sent out. Put simply, this just isn't the way you sell records. It's as if Motown wants this record to bomb. If you have the opportunity to make a buck on a record, why wouldn't you take advantage of it? I wonder if they'll even break even at this rate. I agree, zebop, that Motown has fallen victim to mismanagement for many years now (Andre Harrell anyone?) and, while I'm certainly not in the front offices and don't know the man, the end result makes it appear that Kedar Massenburg isn't doing much better. As far as reissues of the massive amount of out-of-print Temptations albums, Motown is unlikely to do anything about that. Maybe they'll pass the masters on to Hip-O Select (the way they did with the unreleased David Ruffin album) but otherwise, we're unlikely to see them anytime soon. Ed Motown's done this for a while. Even in the late '60s and early '70s an artist would have a great or very good record and Motown would release the weakest song as a single. Certainly Motown isn't what it was years ago but the Motown of the past and present share traits of a mismanaged company. Massenburg still seems to be coasting on his neo-soul days. He's done little or nothing getting new acts, the reissues are propping him up and sustaining him. The expectations for "Legacy" were too low. For me, it's a good to great album--stronger in the Temptations "old-school" vein that a lot of better liked recent albums. Motown really could have used "Still Tempting" as a single and video--and they would have been set.

Yeah, I remember when Kedar was the man back in the mid to late '90's. He had his own label, Kedar Entertainment, and he'd signed Erykah Badu and Chico DeBarge - both of whom did extremely well with their first two records (yes, I know Chico had another record out before he went to jail). It seems as soon as he got to Motown, he began to lose his mind. He's had one hit with India.Arie and that's about it. It's like watching a painful rerun where Kedar's standing in for Andre Harrell.

It's not the (((Temptations))) Legacy for "their" music to be out here almost anonymously..............Old school Temptations fan that I am, I remember way back as kid the very 1st time I heard "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" was on the RADIO!!!!. (((WWRL))))) Ditto with Dennis' and crew's "Cloud Nine" ((Frankie Crocker)) and Ali's "Treat Her Like a Lady". 6 years ago when even Ali and Theo were gone, the 1st time I heard "Stay" it jumped out of the car speakers with the powerful "My Girl" sample and we all were a little transported. At least I was. Seems like all the new lineups have always come out strong out the block. Legacy??? I haven't heard any mention of LEGACY or "50/50 Love" or "Somethin' Special" except for what I hear about 'round "here"..............and I STILL listen to the radio almost everyday......."Still crazy after all these years".......Peace

Ed Kedar really never did anything to suggest he'd be a good president at Motown. And the saddest thing is that Massenburg's so boring, he doesn't provide the amusement of Harrell's misadventures. I don't know if Massenburg doesn't like this lineup, doesn't care--perhaps is busy, but "Legacy" has received horrible promotion, frankly I'm a little surprised.

He's laying low and he appears to be mismanaging the company. I'd buy that he didn't care about the current line-up of Tempts if he didn't appear to be blowing it on all fronts. They haven't had a hit record since India.Arie. The label seems to barely function and it's sad... I remember years back that there was talk of dissolving Motown into the Polygram Group at the time that Polygram bought up Motown and A&M. They were going to turn it into a reissue label. Then, they slid Brian McKnight and 98 Disease over there and it started to function again. 98 Disease is now history and Brian McKnight's last record crashed and burned. Given the current non-success of the label, they might as well do what they were gonna do and dissolve it They did it to A&M and MCA and they both had viable acts signed to their rosters. Motown doesn't even have that at this point. Sad, I know, but it's true nevertheless. Ed Edited 'cause I added stuff

LOL, Mike!!! Thanks for the levity.. Well, what I'm really saying is that even if you don't like the record, Motown did pay for it. They paid for the sessions and all that went into them. Since they are in the business of making money, they should be trying to recoup their investment to some degree. As far as I can tell, they aren't. For that, they should be ashamed. Ed Actually the group gets billed for the session time. At least that's what's in Otis' book...Debbie can tell you that. If Motown is in the business of making money, why did they release this noise and call it MUSIC?
