Temptations At Riverbend

The Temptations tempted all of us in attendance to get down and dance from the moment they stepped onto the stage Sunday night at Riverbend 2003. Simply put, they succeeded. Not only did I witness vast numbers of people dancing all about event grounds I was treated to a special show not four feet away from where I had planted my happy feet. I want to take just a moment to thank the "POWER" t-shirt girls for putting on the musical dance show they put on for us - sort of a pre-Temptations, temptation. I loved their version of
"Just My Imagination." THANKS GIRLS!
The show started with another treat -lots of musical treats last night - the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra played a wonderfully delightful tribute to the late musical genius, Duke Ellington. I'd not had the experience of hearing this talented organization of musicians and last night was just right for the tunes they gave to an appreciative Sunday night audience. THANK YOU FOLKS!
The fabulous Temptations launched right into one of my favorite songs of theirs with "The Way You do the Things You do." As soon as the music started the fellows began some of their world famous, specialized dance steps. I'll admit to being totally impressed with their moves and the smoothness with which they pulled off each step. It's so much fun to see a group of singers that can make such group movements look so fluid and natural and these fellows did it with each song.
They no sooner finished the first tune when I heard another one of my
favorite Temptation's songs. "Ain't to Proud to Beg" is and was a complete crowd pleaser and I noticed only a couple of folks that were not singing along with the band. A couple of songs later came another favorite. "Just My Imagination" had everyone in the audience singing and swaying. The Temptations even gave the audience their own chorus to sing. I'll confess we didn't touch the guys, but it sure was fun.
I'm telling you music does things to people. One thing I've noticed for the last three days is just how polite the crowds have been to each other. I've witnessed one kindness after another and it's a pleasure to know I live in a city that displays such warmth and civility. One of the most touching scenes I viewed last night was a friendly fellow handing out those little color necklaces to some of the wee ones - he sure made one little girl's night. When she got her color bracelets she lit up like the colorful glow that surrounded her.
Back to the band. What on earth can I tell anyone about The Temptations? They're fantastic to say the least. They've went through a lot of changes and experiences over the years and they are still going strong and singing some of America's favorite songs. With the leadership of conductor Allonzo McKenzie the Orchestra backed the group with some level of perfection and a good time was had by all.
