When I was going to Temps shows in the mid-sixties, I saw what kind of reaction the group got from its fans. It was incredible. No one ever said Otis couldn't dance, couldn't sing and at times many(women) said he was the best looking one in the group......(check out the photo of the group on the back of the WITH A LOT'O SOUL lp and even though I am am not a judge of men's looks, I will say the man looks pretty good there. They were young and they were fine and back then Eddie hadn't had his teeth done so even though he was cute, he wasn't stone cold handsome. All I'm saying is they were all beloved by the masses. I am so surprised by all the negativity I have seen and read since I joined this board. It is just all too stupid for me. I had no one else to share my facination with this incredible group before I came here and even though the book upset me and the movie I knew was just that..........as DEnnis says, made for TV............it still didn't change my love for any of them What can we change........nothing. What can we do by casting blame on any of them for the way the led their lives...........nothing! The Lord says let he who is without sin...........cast the first stone The Temptations have always been first with me....the individual, second.

First off - the Group came together - such as they are - and became one of the greatest Groups of all time - if not the Greatest. That is what has brought us all here to begin with. We can all speculate on "What If's" - "Could Haves" and "Should Haves". But when it is all said and done - it still comes around to the Classic 5 - as they were. Otis is a back-up singer - not a lead singer (big difference) and Otis has never proclaimed to be anything else. When I listen to their music - and see them in person - I do not hear anybody singing off-key. Otis may not be the best dancer of the Group - but the Man holds his own very well. This Man is now in his 60's - and STILL continues to pack the house with tickets that cost a pretty penny. This Man in his 60's STILL has one of the heavist tour schedules of any Group out there. He has done this for more years than most of us are old. If nothing else - this Man deserves RESPECT for his accomplishments and being able to continue to do so at the age that he is. So do the rest including Dennis. Otis didn't do this all by himself....He had help from somebody else. But the way it's said here,it's all about Otis, which is total :bs: Then when someone points that out...they are "HATERS" which is more :bs: Eddie deserves RESPECT for his accomplishments,David deserves RESPECT for his accomplishments...Paul deserves RESPECT for his accomplishments....Melvin deserves RESPECT for his accomplishments......and Dennis deserves RESPECT for his accomplishments. It's not given. All they get is talk about their faults. When the same thing is done to Otis....then it's HATE,or something more absurd JEALOUSLY. Please.......that's about a valid as anyone being mad that Otis is still alive and the others aren't. Childish at best.

But,I think that ALL of it is stupid, not just the ones directed at Otis, but the whole group. None of them were perfect. None made the group all by themselves.None are responsible for keeping the group going today. NONE!

What I think the so called Otis haters are trying to do is put his accomplishments in the right perspective. The book and the movie and the guy's talk indicate that he glorifies his own role in the group's success by vilifying the others'.

This statement is on point. temptsinfo.com/smilies/wtg.gif I couldn't agree more.

The "Otis Haters" are the only ones who are trying to put anything in perspective. I don't see where it needs to be put anywhere. It is what it is..lies to some.....truth to others. I don't see why "they" feel its their need to do so. I don't need anyone telling me what I read, I can judge for myself and I hope others do as well......

And that's fine.you explained your point withpout calling him names or accusing him of ending the group or anything else. That's all it takes. I sometimes find it hard to ubnderstand how people can be so passionately mad at someone they don't even know. I (sometimes ;D) try not to. I can be passionately mad at this someone when it affects, or affected the people I do know

Mike please say *WHO* is saying that Otis did it all by himself......other than what you get from what he wrote? I don't see anyone saying it was all aobut Otis and no one else. He may not have given respect where it is due but he, in my opinion, does not believe it is all about him. Mike that fact is they had flaws, all of them....I can and will talk about them and i don't hate any of them.............you know that.

It is amazing to me how a group of reasonably intelligent people can read the same thing and come up with completely different comprehensions. Ah, well, if we all agreed on everything it would get terribly :sleepy: around here!

But in this thread we were discussing Otis! I don't see as much DISRESPECT posted on this board about any member of the Group than there is posted about Otis. Whatever they have done in their lives does not change the fact that we LOVE THEIR MUSIC! Whether people like it or not - OTIS IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE CLASSIC 5 STILL ALIVE! The Man has come a long way in his career - just about more than anybody else in the business. What is so DARN WRONG about giving the Man some respect for his accomplishments - and still going as strong as he is for somebody in his 60's?

I (sometimes ;D) try not to. I can be passionately mad at this someone when it affects, or affected the people I do know And I can respect that. But you find a way to maintain your anger so you can have a discussion rather than a pardon my french, pissing contest. The only way to discuss is to be open minded on both sides of the equation. I have been turned around in some of my beliefs, thoughts, whatever since I have talked to some.,and others have made me so angry that diecussion is out of the question. I prefer not to talk to those people which in turn makes them think I ignore what they're saying when actually its just at some point you are going back and forth and nothing is being resolved. All you are now doing is yelling at each other.....i don't need that. You can't force me to see your side, but in discussion I will be more apt to look at it objectivly.
