Reason # 368 why John Kerry is wrong for America...
Russian Troops Helped Smuggle Weapons To Syria Before War
Russian special forces troops moved many of Saddam Hussein's weapons and related goods out of Iraq and into Syria in the weeks before the March 2003 U.S. military operation, The Washington Times has learned.
John A. Shaw, the deputy undersecretary of defense for international technology security, said in an interview that he believes the Russian troops, working with Iraqi intelligence, "almost certainly" removed the high-explosive material that went missing from the Al-Qaqaa facility, south of Baghdad.
"The Russians brought in, just before the war got started, a whole series of military units," Mr. Shaw said. "Their main job was to shred all evidence of any of the contractual arrangements they had with the Iraqis. The others were transportation units."
Mr. Shaw, who was in charge of cataloguing the tons of conventional arms provided to Iraq by foreign suppliers, said he recently obtained reliable information on the arms-dispersal program from two European intelligence services that have detailed knowledge of the Russian-Iraqi weapons collaboration.
Most of Saddam's most powerful arms were systematically separated from other arms like mortars, bombs and rockets, and sent to Syria and Lebanon, and possibly to Iran, he said.
Logic does not allow me to conclude that all the world's intelligence got it wrong with regard to Saddam's WMD capabilities; it defies reason that he would actively defy UN mandate and risk losing his country if he had nothing to hide. It begs the question...if Russian troops were helping to transport conventional weapons out of Iraq before the invasion, why would it be implausible that they'd smuggle WMD out, too?
The Duelfer Report indicated that a considerable amount of material had been transferred from Iraq to Syria before March 2003. Duelfer said on October 6, "There was certainly a lot of traffic across the border points. We've got a lot of data to support that, including people discussing it." He could not rule out that WMD were among those materials being transported.
So, we have France working against us in a concerted effort to cover up their system of illegal kickbacks with the Hussein regime...and now we apparently have the Russians shredding documents and smuggling weapons out of Iraq in the days leading up to war. Neither government supported our effort in Iraq and John Kerry continues to shamelessly contend it's the result of failed leadership on George Bush's part. The evidence tells a different story.
John Kerry has no plan beyond "George Bush failed." As long as it advances his personal ambition, he'll tell you whatever you want to hear...and place America's security at risk in the process. He's wrong on Iraq. He's wrong on defense. He's wrong on the economy. He's wrong on social security. He's wrong on health care. He's wrong, period.
One man has stood up in the face of global resistance to confront terror and secure America's future while the other can't take a stand on whether he's for or against taking action at all. An "Anybody But Bush" vote will do nothing to keep this country safe...and that's precisely what the terrorists are hoping for.
America can't afford John Kerry's lack of judgment, character, honor, leadership or courage at this pivotal moment in history.
