I just stumbled on a pic of him after years of looking for one! I also found this really cool article on him that I hadn't seen before: www.snipview.com/q/Roger_PenzabeneP.S.: "Rodger" is apparently the proper spelling of his name. FYI.

interesting that he may helped on Grapevine; the big rumor that has never been verified is that the Isleys were the first to record the song. Ron Isley has said that they cut original tunes on songs made famous by other artists. One example is Smile, which is What Becomes of the Brokenhearted with different lyrics.

I too have been searching for a picture of Rodger/Roger for years. Thank you for posting this. It is interesting to me to note that David Ruffin described Rodger as "a nice jew young white boy that wrote at Motown Records, he had long hair and everyone thought was black because he kept a tan". This information is a direct quote from David's introduction to "I wish it would Rain" on the Live in '91 CD he did with Eddie and Dennis. Sicilian and Irish... whoda thunk?

Penezabene on "Grapevine"? That makes sense. Still can't find the Isleys version.

Heartache is great for songwriting but, in his case, he wasn't able to get enough of it out that way and he couldn't get past it. Such a shame. How nice that his songs continue to help and heal those whose hearts have been broken.
