"The Classic Line-up couldnt make it in the 70s" is what one blogger said on youtube, and I found that kind of laughable considering that the influence of the Tempts could be heard strongly in the 70's. The Tempts had a falsetto singer by the name of Eddie Kendricks who had 4 number 1's and other hits as a solo artist in the 70's,even going platinum,(classic-Keep On Trucking....)and he sang lead on number 1's and other hits and even album fillers that were great as well,IMO, as a Temptation.
Then there was a guy by the name of David Ruffin, that ya'll probably have heard of, who sang on many Tempts songs that hit # 1, he sang on other hits and album fillers that were great as well,IMO, as a Temptation. He even had the classic "Walk Away From Love" which hit # 1 on the charts in 1975 or 1976.
And The Tempts had harmony and the dance moves. Anybody else wanna respond on this ludicrous statement. I figured I would share this with ya'll. I didnt want to be selfish and keep this laughable story to myself. As soon as I read the statement I started rolling.
The Tempts had a falsetto in Eddie Kendricks and a raspy, gritty voice tenor in Ruffin, and they supposedly couldn't make it in the 70's. Weren't there other groups that had falsetto singers and gritty voiced leads,oh never mind.lol

Weren't there other groups that had falsetto singers and gritty voiced leads,oh never mind.lol In the seventies you had groups like The Dells, The Manhattans, The Dramatic, Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes, The Stylistics, Archie Bell and Drells (Philadelphia International tenure), The Delfonics, The Moments (aka, Ray, Goodman, and Brown), Blue Magic, Sly and Family Stone and The Jackson Five. Icould probally name about fifteen other groups. But, The Temptations were still the premier group of the seventies. Whom ever wrote that post needs their head examined or should committed to a psych ward. The eighties you start to see them somewhat take a downward turn, but wouldn't you know it Ollie Ali Woodson steps up and brings them right back to the forefront. Let's face it Gordy and Shelly Berger made the Tempts the #1 singing group in the world.
