This one is for Cadeho and Ivory! Krispy Kreme net income rises 46.8 percent 09:08 AM EDT on Thursday, August 21, 2003 Associated Press WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Second quarter profit was sweet for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, which said Thursday its net income increased 46.8 percent to $13 million, led by sales from company-owned stores. Krispy Kreme earned $8.9 million in the second quarter last year. Earnings per share increased to 21 cents in the second quarter compared with 15 cents a share for the previous second quarter. Company revenues increased 41.1 percent to $161.8 million, compared with $114.6 million last year. Sales from the company stores increased 39.6 percent to $104.3 million and revenue from franchise operations grew 24.7 percent to $6 million. "Krispy Kreme had an extremely exciting second quarter that included a number of significant events for the company," said chairman and president Scott Livengood. "We experienced great success when we opened our first store outside North America in Sydney, Australia. "Finally, we served the first-ever Krispy Kreme doughnuts in a French-speaking environment in Montreal, Canada, and were met with great excitement when we opened there in May." During the quarter, 22 new Krispy Kreme stores were opened in twelve new markets. The new outlets included ones in Australia and Canada as well as a commissary in London. The company also added stores in Texas, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Oregon. The store that opened in Medford, Mass., a Boston suburb, set a new opening week sales record of $506,917, the company said.

Wow...spooky... Just read in the local paper that they are scouting out a location in Fort Collins. The franchise guy had always told me that the town needed to have a population of at least 150,000. I'm sure that Fort Collins doesn't, but they must feel there's a market there. We have Lamar's already... which is pretty darn good. As far as size, their donuts are far bigger and not so sweet. But nothing beats a fresh and hot KK right off the conveyor belt. Peach

The franchise guy had always told me that the town needed to have a population of at least 150,000.THat's nothing. There are 150,000 people in my building!!!! There are no franchises in this part of the world because KK has parternships with the grocery stores. They've been doing it for DECADES and they aren't gonna change any time soon. There are two bakeries in Nashville that distribute to all the stores in the area. The result? Stale donuts all but two days out of the week.

Peach,
You live in Fort Collins? My son and daughter-in-law lived there while she was getting her PhD at Colorado State and LOVED it. Unfortunately, while she was offered a job in Fort Collins, someone else offered her a job for more money. But their hearts are still in Fort Collins. They go back to visit and friends from Fort Collins visit them. They still do business with Fort Collins. I mean they really loved that town. I visited it just before the big flood where Colorado State had buildings that were flooded. It was unbelievable. One night we went down to that ice cream store where ice cream is served via the slab. It was packed. But best of all there was the atmosphere of a small town.

Ivory, if that makes you , then what about having a KK down the street...it catches fire"mysteriously", they renovate the building, but do we get a NEW and improved KK , NOT...we get a White Castle in the KK building instead ...talk about to opposite ends of the spectrum!!!!!

Well, I'm not surprised that Fort Collins didn't offer more money, because they don't pay well here. ;D It is a nice place... I know I complain at times, but we have a lot of beauty here. Sometimes I talk like the grouchy old timer. I've lived here since 1971...I've seen it change drastically from a quaint and slower area, to a lot of traffic and many, many houses. Apparently, 30% of our "implants" are from California. I hate to see the beauty lost. Even since the flood you speak of, it's changed a lot. It makes a semi-native want to move to a very remote area far from the maddening crowds. I guess I *do* sound like a grouchy old-timer!! Peach

When we lived in Cheyenne, WY (F.E. Warren AFB), we spent lots of time visiting Ft. Collins, Loveland, Estes Park, Denver, etc. I LOVED Ft. Collins. Beautiful city. Sorry about the 2 day old KKs Ivory.... there is nothing better than fresh, hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They are positively SINFUL.

In my neck of the woods, the donut of choice is Southern Maids. Down here we swear by them. I have tried Krispy Kremes, and they are good, but to me, nothing beats Southern Maid Donuts.
Hello to everyone! Have not been on in a while. Lost my aol connection somehow. Hope everyone is well.
