I hope no one here caught this worm...I haven't had any trouble. I caught a virus, but got help for it. I still have some other viruses on my computer, but my internet and everything else seem to be functional. Since I don't have an anti-virus program just yet, I have to hope nothing else will crash. Praying for the people where the blackouts are happening.

But Angel, you're probably sending out the virus to other people in the process, that's NOT a good thing. :bonk:

The thing that really stood out to me today while watching the news reports was the attitudes and the faces of all those people walking through the streets and across the bridges out of New York. Even in that 90 degree heat, people were smiling, having friendly conversations, staying calm and postiive and those in cars were offering rides to people going their way. I know this sounds truly corny, but I thought about Louis Armstrong's song "What a Wonderful World". I guess after Sept. 11, the people of New York feel a bond... a closeness that helps them through tough situations.

Yeah, that's the great thing about when bad things happen like that. We get that a lot here during ice and snow storms, everyone starts to help everyone. Sometimes we just have it so good and we're left with nothing else to do but to be mean to one another. It takes things like this to help us get our priorities straight. Sad. A lot of wonderful things can happen when the lights go out, and I'm not just talking about making babies. Kinda reminds me of a poem by one of my favorite writers, Shel Silverstein. No Difference Small as a peanut, Big as a giant, We're all the same When we turn off the light. Rich as a sultan, Poor as a mite, We're all worth the same When we turn off the light.
Red, black, or orange, Yellow or white, We all look the same When we turn off the light.
So maybe the way To make everything right Is for God to just reach out And turn off the light!
(Ivory giggles with delight at the thought of p*ssing off a few more racists.) It's kind of idealistic, and unfortunately it's not that simple, but it's nice to dream about.

I'm still here!!!! The power problems we had close to home here were ironically NOT related to the outtage in the Northeast, just one of those freaky things that had bad timing freaking us all out. It had me thinking that it was going to be a 'rolling' type blackout until the whole country was in the dark...can you IMAGINE!
Btw....Great poem Ivory...It is so true though how people tend to overlook differences in the face of tragedy. Tragic situations remind people that we are all humans FIRST and at that moment we share a commonality that evokes the humane side of most of us.

I just woke up an hour ago after spending the night at work in Jersey City , NJ. My family spent the night at home in the dark and powered was restored in the Bronx at 7:00am. I could have "endured" the suffering my family went through had my wife purchased gas earlier in the day. When I called her at 5:00pm she said she forgot to put gas in the car. Gas pumps weren;t working in NYC and she couldn;t come out to get me. I spent the night at work; there were sandwiches in the cafeteria and beverages. Everyone went by an honor system and took on sandwich and one beverage... well.... I took two Snapple Kiwi Strawberry. I woke up, after sleeping in two chairs; folks were cutting down trees in their cots in the cafeteria, went upstairs to the gym and showered up, grabbed a complimentary breakfast and logged on. BTW - My wife went to get gasoline this morning curet30 - mypages.netopia.com/channels

From the News: The Detroit water department, which serves much of southeast Michigan, was pumping about half its usual volume as officials worked to restart pumps. Low pressure led officials to warn residents to conserve water and boil any for drinking or cooking.Ok...power's out, water pumping stations are working half-capacity...so how do we boil this drinking water and what are we cooking with? Camp stoves, I guess .

Just heard from Qbunny a little while ago and she's ok, although still without power. She had battery on her laptop and she has some food and water. Reading the online TV news says that some parts of Detroit may be out through the weekend.

Having been through Hurricanes and power outages for weeks, you can purify water by adding bleach. I think it's a teaspoon a gallon.
WHile people always pull together in these crises, and often hate to see them end because everyone is so friendly, I think New Yorkers are just naturally much tougher than other people. They wait in lines much more patiently than people in other cities. And certainly they take disasters with a great deal of calm.

And I get mad when the power down here goes out for an hour. Ivory, that's a nice picture. Imagine all of New York standing outside holding lit candles. I'm sure no one was happy the power was out, but that wouldda been a pretty site

Yay for everyone being ok! But as for everybody being friendly, I can totally see that. I just wish people would stay like that. Maybe it's just me and the freak that I am, but I kinda think it would be fun to be stuck in a power outage. Because it's an adventure! But then again I'm not stuck in a subway, so I couldn't say for sure!
