Are we getting close to the time when they have to contemplate the sure end of the 'Official' Temptations as a performing and touring act. I don't call them the real Temptations because so many of the great singers are long gone and some still alive (Dennis, Ali-Ollie & Theo). The 'Official' Temptations means they're the only group who can lawfully be recorded, be promoted, release a song, get a booking as The Temptations.
What will happen when Otis decides he's had enough? Will it continue under Ron Tyson who after about 25 years has time vested and can be considered a 'real' Temptation, along with Richard Street & Ali Woodson. If they were to put someone in his place, would he act as the mentor. It would be a fetch to call the remaindermen the 'Official' Temptations though.
I wouldn't doubt it if some former members got serious about reclaiming what they once had. I've only seen video clips of Dennis' Revue with and without Ali. They're definately better with him. It's just the Revue's bass and 1st tenor aren't good.
Ron has essentially become the spokesperson/emcee on stage for the group and does an admirable job and is pretty funny. He may be getting prepared for that time to come. His voice has gotten worse. I noticed they transpose their songs down a couple of keys for their performances here in Tulsa last weekend. What do you think they would do in a case like Otis leaving?

Well unless Otis is willing to make a move for the good of the group they will just die out completely. The groups mantra has always been Temptations 4ever and frankly society deserves that. The thing they need to comes to grips with is their own mortality. Otis needs to appoint a younger successor and completely revamp the lineup. For the sake of the fans they need to make sure the new guys have the ingredients that make a Temptation. When you watch them now you see a very sad sight in my opnion. They are old tired and not very good. The style the talent the charisma the things that put them at the forefront are gone. Pass that torch O there is no shame in knowing your time has come.

No, I think Otis would want the group to go on. "Temptations Forever" remember. He would probably get someone to replace him and probably someone young and fresh. That's what I think.

The group should disband when Otis retires or dies. I'm pretty sure when they said "Temptations Forever," they were referring to themselves individually not that there will forever be Temptations. I mean come on, when Tupac died, they didn't get a look-alike or sound-alike to take his place. Even TLC gave it up after Left-eye's death. And all the tribute groups... !!! I'm already tired of former Temptations Temptations Temptations. Don't ruin a good thing by running it into the ground. We have tons of material to love and listen to... for real, forever. Anything or anyone else would be The Imitations.

They certainly wouldn't have to disband when Otis leaves the group however that occurs. Numerous former members, including five Rock & Roll Music Hall of Famers, have left the group over the years and the "group" didn't cease. They'd have every right to continue, but continue or not, its cool. They're are a tribute band now anyway.
