Don't count your chickens before they hatch. I believe it was 1968 when the lakers had West, Baylor and Chamberlain and they didn't win it. 4 superstars don't always add up to one championship. They say they are willing to sacrifice for the good of the whole bur old habits die hard and it remains to be seen just how much they are willing to do so. Somebody had to remind me of this... Only Butch Van Breda Kolff could botch that...

Take pressure off Shaq down in the paint! Malone will have the sameeffect on some of the Lakers that he did on Donyell Marshall. Taught Marshall how to be a pro! Now that he can do. I hope he does have that kind of effect.

Where was his ego that he would choose the 7th game of the fianls to make a point to Wilt. And SS, it goes back to that old thing where, you know, he couldn't be hurt, he's Wil Chamberlain and he's too big to be hurt!!!

'Cause Butchie thought he was smarter than Elgin Baylor, Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain. And Russell gets ticked at the Dipper because of this. The Big Three should've tied Butchie up and dropped in El Segundo. Either that or strung him up on the Hollywood sign. When West and Baylor talk about this now, you see them simmer, because they knew they were better than the Celtics. That's the one year they knew they should've got a title. The next year was almost as bad.

This is going to be an interesting season... Jason Kidd Stays With Nets in $99M Deal
By TOM CANAVAN, AP Sports Writer
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Jason Kidd agreed to a six-year, $99 million deal to stay with the New Jersey Nets on Friday, rejecting an offer from the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.
Since arriving via trade two years ago, the All-Star point guard transformed the Nets from an also-ran into a two-time conference champion.
"After great thought and consultation with the important people in my life, I have decided that I want to remain a New Jersey Net," Kidd said.
His decision came the same day that word emerged that center Alonzo Mourning would join the Nets as a free agent. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said in an e-mail that Mourning wouldn't sign with Dallas and instead had chosen New Jersey.
A Nets spokesman would not confirm the deal, and a call to Mourning's agent, Jeffrey Wechsler, was not immediately returned.
Mourning — out of the NBA last season because of a kidney ailment — can't officially sign with the Nets until Wednesday, nor can Kidd.
Kidd and his family visited San Antonio this week, and his agent said Kidd would make a decision by the start of next week.
But the player made his choice known sooner — and just 24 hours after there were reports he wanted the Nets to get rid of coach Byron Scott. On Thursday, Nets president and general manager Rod Thorn denied published reports Kidd demanded Scott be fired.
"I have enjoyed being here the past two years, I have worked hard with my teammates and believe in our future," Kidd said Friday. "I've been fortunate to have had significant interest from other great organizations, but ultimately I want to finish what we started here and bring a championship to the Nets."
Spurs general manager R.C. Buford confirmed Kidd pulled out of talks with his team.
"While it is disappointing news for us, we are happy for Jason and his family and wish them continued success," Buford said.

karl malone wants to play another year or two until he takes over from kareem the title of #1 all time scoring leader. he didn't want to stay in utah with stockton retiring. alonzo mourning is a big risk factor for jersey- if he gets bruised in the kidneys he's done. they should keep dikembe around. mourning is great when healthy- he 's just not healthy anymore. larry bird is so good for indiana basketball. ANGEL NIECE AND SOUTHERN NIECE- I WAS THINKING OF YOU BOTH WHEN I DROVE UP TO CHICO THE OTHER DAY WITH STEVIE AND ELISE- CHICO IS 90 MILES NORTH OF SACRAMENTO SO WE DROVE RIGHT PAST THE ARCO ARENA - IT WAS HUGE!

steve, I'm rather glad karl decided to leave. I think he made it okay for a player to embrace the stability of a team even when the team is unstable. Malone made it so young players see how great a player can be and how the exsistance on a single team can make them a contender and that player a star. Sometimes being the bish fish in a small pond is okay, as along as that pond you're in can lead to the ocean. Malone made his pond lead to the ocean. Now, he's ready to become the ocean and get that ring.
This is going to be great for him. this new role will preserve his legs and add time on to his career and to some others careers.

yes, hype, and the fact remains that karl's other goal is not only to go out a champion- he wants kareem's all time scoring record! to do both as a laker would be icing on a hall of fame career.

Mailman, Glove, Kobe, Shaq...who wants to be that fifth Laker? Like putting Polk on Mt Rushmore. Zen Jackson deals with egos as well as any coach. I think the most interesting thing to watch in the Lake show this year will be the development of Luke Walton. Depending on how long the Fab Four (five, if ya count Zen) stay together, he could have more rings than his daddy! Young Walton does all that Madsen wanted to do. Hustle, hard D, and doesn't look like a deer in the headlights when faced with an open J. Hear tell the Wiz joined the NBA with a Stack now possessing a rap sheet! Jeez, young multi-millionaires. Innocent, until proven guilty...my bad
