no it is not confusing. everyone whoever watched that movie, know that it was in black and white. if not, how stupid of them. but its the fact that the movie, and as in otis book, he only describes their first performace, where they gained so much television publicity, as to being on the ed sullivan show. and i'm not saying it was their first performance ever, so if there is footage out there that shows it, so be it, but it was not the same fooatge as suppose to be in the movie.
so no one here is confused about the black and white. turned color performance from the movie.

very well said temptfanatic how foolish to say we didn't know the difference, come on it's right there in the movie. which i also believe they were only showing their perfomance which got them the most publicity. i read up on it in otis book the other day. he only decribes that performance as well, as their first performance that boosted their public appearance.

Oh jeeze people, come on! IM NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU!!!!!! I mean people in general. I know that 99% of the people here would know the difference, thats why I ask. And this thread is not to call people stupid or ignorant or foolish. Its to "fish around" for that one person who has either seen or found this footage. Everyone here is mature, grown up and can all relate in ways beyond the tempts Im sure, so lets all get back on subject. And look, if it offends you that much that I may or may not have mistaken you for someone that doesnt know the difference between reality and a miniseries... for all its worth. IM SORRY. Until then, lets gracefully get back into the subject matter.

Frankly, I think the movie did a fantastic job. There are always going to be adjustments to the requirements of filmmaking from a book, but that doesn't mean the movie is erroneous. And Smooth deftly explained how the filmmakers showed that the original show was in b/w.
Aussican05, I understand your frustration. I've had the same experience of seeing something and then trying to find it again. When I find the time, I'll look through my files to see if I can find such a film.
BTW, I am looking at my desktop now which has the Tempts on it. They are wearing black tuxedos and there is a background with black oblongs on it. (I wonder if the backgrounds are made by cameas which can vary the background upon demand. But the picture is in color. And their formation suggests they are singing, "Hello, Young Lovers."

well aussion05 u were not speaking in general, simply u stated ''some fans here on the board''. that sounds more specific to me.
but all differences put aside, yes i agree with u, lets get back to the subject. now reading your statement earlier, u said u saw rectangles in the background. would it happen to be the mygirl performance on the their recent dvd(get ready) done in 1966 on swingin time. just wondering is that ringing a bell for ya

I know exatly what your talking about temptfanatic1. The My Girl performance on the ending of the miniseries used the same outfits (purple suits) on the performance of My girl in the"Get Ready" DVD. Note: notice the pattern, ruffles, and white shoes. You are deffinatley right, however Id have to say no because this "legend" of a TV performance was exactly the same as the first one on the miniseries (Black rectangles/ Black Tuxedos). One day we will know. hehehehehe. Anyways Im glad weve all avoided that conflict back there. Its so easy to misinterpret meanings and emotions behind a keyboard and a monitor. Might I add that I have a respect and appreciation for you all in participating and taking time in this thread of mine.

Hmmm.... Thats the only song I could think of them performing, however there could have been another song they did on the same show.

If you want to find The Temptation footage about their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, maybe you should place calls to the New York and found out were it was tape.

I do not think the re-enactment of "My Girl" in the miniseries was supposed to be a particular performance. I believe it was to emphasize their top ranking by appearing on Ed Sullivan plus the impact of "My Girl." The Temptations' first public appearance on the stage with "My Girl" was at the Fox Theatre in Detroit right after they had finished recording it. Paul introduces the song with "And now for our latest release on the Gordy (or whatever name he used) label, "My Girl." It is on a CD, but it was not filmed. I think it may have been at the annual Motown Christmas Show at the Fox. I'd have to look up which CD this first recorded appearance of a Tempts performance of "My Girl" with its introduction appears on. I know what you're talking about. This cd performance at the Fox was included on the Temptations: (Lost & Found- You've Got To Earn It) cd. I think it was released in 98.

MY FRIENDS, IT DOES EXSIST! However, I know this performance was not the first "My Girl" ever performed. This performance was lipsynced just as it was on the miniseries, it wasnt sung as in 67 or at the fox theatre for that matter. The only inaccuracy in the miniseries as far as it was shown, was the fact that it was in color at one point. This performance was only in black and white. It was 1965 and it was definately a TV show. Im sure it was on American Bandstand or The Ed Sullivan show. Ive been looking up both Ed Sullivan and ABS on google, trying to see if I could look at each stage and catch a similar background "Black Rectangles". Ive found one almost identical, but now I lost it, and Im not sure what show it is..... Ill find it! I remember seeing clips from the one on "American Bandstand". I know they all weren't wearing black tuxedos. I remember they all had different clothes that were casual (at least at that time). It was in black&white. David had the high process hair and a blazer and black pants. If you recall the "Original Leads of The Temptations" dvd showed a clip of it. When David, Eddie, and Dennis are performing "I Wish It Would Rain" you see a montage of the performance. David is moving his hands up and singing the words "fortune or fame"

The only reason it's shown in color in the movie, is because the camera gives us, the viewer, the audience's perspective.Notice how the camera zooms in and takes us into the television, and when it zooms out and gives us the family member's perspective it's in black and white again. So it wasn't inaccurate at all. But I hear everything else you're saying. That's how I interpreted the scene too. As soon as the colors appear, the camera kind of gets replaced by the viewer's eyes.
