This is too hard for me because I love Eddie, David, and Paul. I also think that Melvin is the world's greatest bass.

I like Eddie's voice the best, but perhaps I should say what I really like is all five voices. I do not like albums on which one singer sings lead on most of the songs. I really like the Tempts when all five are singing lead. It reminds me of the Beatles. On every album Ringo sang lead on one song; George sang lead on 1-3 songs which he had written. I wish they would make that a rule with the Temptations.
And I like them through the ages, all five voices. One advantage the Classic Five has is that we have the records. Today at a concert, the audience is clapping, screaming, and participating. It's a bit like the pandemonium created at Beatles' concerts. The Beatles finally stopped touring because they couldn't hear a note they sang in the midst of the audience's screams.
When we listen to the Classic Five we hear the purity of their voices; in concerts it is sometimes hard to hear the singers midst the screams from the audience who always want to "sing along."

I also like Terron Brooks and Christian Payton. They did an excellent job of singing. The amusing part is the some people who "claim to know all about the Tempts" think that Terron's singing is Eddie's, and that Christian's singing is Paul's.

That is true about some people mistaking Terron and Christian for Eddie and Paul. I knew immediately that they were not Eddie and Paul. Eddie has a very distinct ,smooth, and mesmerizing quality about his voice. As far as I'm concerned there will never be another tenor like Eddie. Paul also had one of those unforgettably wonderful soulful voices.

IT'S BETWEEN PAUL AND EDDIE. BOTH VOICES ARE ORIGINAL AND ALWAYS IMITATED AND NEVER DUPLICATED BY SINGERS OF TODAY. BUT I THINK PAUL'S DEEP SOULFUL VOICE IS LIKE YOU WERE APART OF HIS EMOTIONS, WHAT HE FELT. I KNOW Y'ALL FELT IT ON "FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE'.

Actually I think I need all five Temptations. No matter how much I may like one voice, I think he sounds best when he's singing with The Temptations. I do not like albums where one lead singer does most of the singing. It's all five I like to hear. The melding of the voices is unbelievable.

now i agree with that. the tempts sound great solo. but together it's just so powerful.
their voices are just meant for each other.
