Hello All,
I just watched the movie tonight for the bazillionth time. Have a question. In the credits it mentions Smokey's performance of "Be Careful What You Wish For" . Since it must have been cut from my DVD can someone please tell me where this took place in the movie.
I have no clue where my old VHS tape is from when I taped the movie from tv. Therefore I can't check it myself.
Thank in advance & Cheers,
sdl2 ;D

If I remember correctly, the song "Be Careful What You Wish For" was written for the soundtrack by Smokey Robinson. I don't remember it being in the movie and certainly not as a "performance." But it is the introductory song on the CD soundtrack for the film.

Hmm,
How odd it is on the soundtrack but not in the movie huh? I never purchased the soundtrack so am not familiar with the song. Is it a ballad?
Thanks

What is the technical definition of a ballad? It's a beautiful, wistful song dealing with what its title suggests. In other words, you wish for success, for fame, for fortune, but dealing with them is the problem. They can destroy you.
Without the plot line of the film, the song provides a plot line for the audio CD version. It is sung by Smokey on the CD. If it appears anywhere in the film, it is merely as background music and is not prominent. I have the DVD and the VHS version of the film but have paid no attention to music used behind credits or in other ways.
But, thinking along those lines in terms of The Beatles and their 10-year longevity, the Temptations and their 10-year longevity, I began to wonder what about groups that did not have the success these two did. How long did they last?
Without doing extensive research I concluded that without success, groups drifted apart to other things. Perhaps there is more than one factor involved here.
1. egoes (and that can be documented for all groups) 2. problems that sudden wealth can bring 3. drug dealers hovering wherever there is money 4. success achieved, what happens to motivation, what is going to drive the group to continue to work hard, to practice?
And herein I think of Smokey Robinson. In his book he says the 25th Anniversary of Motown TV show was the highlight of his professional life. He mentioned trying to help other performers who had become addicts and his scorn of drug addiction, only a few years lafter the TV show to fall victim himself. I wonder to what degree the song is reflective of personal experience.

Saw on the TV schedule that The Temptations will be on VH1 tonight. Watch to see where, or if, "Be Careful For What You Wish For" appears. I know it is not a performance, but it might be background for credits or title or something.
