(The weekend flew by, so did that whole week. They spent practically everyday together. They went to the movies & did volunteer work together. They seemed inseparable.)
*Friday night, Honey at David’s house. Playing a game of poker with David, Jimmy & their mother*
Jimmy-I fold!
ER-Me too!
Honey-Oh so it’s down to us two is it?! *smiling at David*
David-Guess so, & I think you owe me some money...*Lays down a straight*
Honey-*Smile fades* Wow, wasn’t expecting that; your good.
David-*Smiles victoriously*
Honey-But....just not good enough. *Smirks* In your honor a royal flush, in diamonds!
David-But I...you!
Honey-Woohoo!! Beat that “Mr. Poker Champion”!!
David-Why you! *Stands up & walks towards her as she rises to escape*
Honey-No, no please!! *Takes her in his arms* No, ah!! *Both laugh* You got me!
David-I got you! *Kisses her soundly, doorbell rings. Jimmy gets up to answer it to see Melvin beaming in the door way & he rushes in*
Melvin-Ya’ll guess what?! *Freezes when he see’s David & Honey, clears throat & they look up to him* Sorry to interrupt...
David-Naw man, it’s all good.
Honey-Actually I was enjoying my poker winning prize....*smiles* nice to see you Melvin. *Walks up & hugs him*
Melvin-You too Honey.
ER-What’s the big news Melvin?
Melvin-Berry Gordy signed us!! Said he loves us.....oh & we are now called The Temptations!!!!
Honey-Ahh! That’s wonderful!! *Jumps up & hugs him*
ER-Oh my Lord child, you’ve done it!!
David-Hey way to go Blue!! *Handshakes & pulls him into a hug*
Jimmy-Always knew you could do it, knew you’d make it! *Shakes hands*
Melvin-Thanks ya’ll. The others are all out telling their family & friends of course, otherwise they’d probably be here too. Motown....can ya’ll believe it?!
Honey-We should celebrate!
David-That we should, everyone! The whole group!
ER-How ‘bout we all go to the carnival tomorrow night?
Jimmy-Great idea momma!
Melvin-I’ll call up everyone tonight & tell ‘em. We’ll bring all our families & friends! Good night to ya’ll, see ya tomorrow! *Leaves*
Honey-Well that was exciting!
ER-Indeed it was child.

ER-They are lucky, but they didn’t need any luck....just their talents. Honey, it’s 9. Shouldn’t you be going?
Honey-Oh I should! Thank you for the dinner & the poker game Mrs. Ruffin!

Honey-Does it bother you? That they have what you deserve just as much?
David-No. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t envious but they deserve it....that’s what matters.
Honey-Your times coming you know? I can feel it....I sense these things.
David-Oh you do? What have you ever “sensed” that you were actually right about?
Honey-That day we first met, I was telling the girls something exciting & different was gonna happen that weekend & it did. I met you!
David-I think that was fate, not your “senses”. *Laughs*
Honey-*Smacks him in the side* Don’t be rude! *Giggles*
David-Ah, I’m sorry. *Smiles, they approach her home* G’night. *Kisses her*

Part III of "Aint To Proud To Beg" (Another short intermission to DRL's wonderful story )
......... Meanwhile, while David was out doing his own thing, Otis, Blue, Paul, and Eddie were getting more and more angrier by the minute. "That is it- David's history!" Otis angrily concluded. "I've had it up to here with all of his games that he is playing with us. Does he think I'm playing with him? I will have his ass out of this group so fast, he won't be able to say "David Ruffin and the Temptations" as quick as I give him the boot! Although Otis had some good points, Eddie was getting tired of hearing Otis bluff about what he would do. David was his partner, and he definetly disagreed about David leaving the group. "O, why don't you give it a rest." Eddie said. "You know that we always needed David at one time or another."
"Get your facts together Corn!" Otis exploded. "How many times has he either not shown up or come late to engagements? Too many, and you know it!" "Hell, he does have a point Corn" Paul agreed. "And tonight, he is surely proving himself right!"
Eddie could'nt do anything but sigh. At least he tried to defend David. They clearly did not see David in the same light as he did. As usual, Blue the peacemaker cut in."Why doesn't everyone calm down a bit. We won't go anywhere with bashing or defending David." You're right" Paul agreed "I mean if it comes down to it, we can always ad- lib or do the "Temptations Walk". I mean the audience will love us anyway. Won't they?" "That's what I'm afraid of." Otis mumbled. "Come on now y'all. we can't just sit around and mope. Paul show us that routine again." Blu said. (Paul shows them some simple but interesting moves and added them doing a side dip to it. That really took the routine to another level because even though it was a simple kneel, it related to the song really well. After a few more times they all have it down really well and become more confident in thier steps because there was acutually a chance in hell that they would actually have a routine in a few hours. ;D).
After they did thier routine one more time, it was 1:30 A.M., but nonetheless, they were extremely jubilant and in a better mood now that they had a routine. As they sat back and relax, Eddie raised his glass "To my main man, Paul. How he comes up with a routine in such a short period of time, we will never know." they all laughed. "Temptations Forever?" Otis asked. "Temptaions Forever!" Eddie, Paul, and Blue chanted as they clanged glasses. They all seemed to almost forget about David not being there until..........
... David bursted into the living room looking outta breath. He had on a white suit with his top three buttons open and carried a pretty lady along his side who seemed to have a shocked/amazed expression on her face. "Hey y'all" he said. "Sorry I was kinda late, but I had to take care of some, uh, business." He looked and saw his fellow groupmates varied expressions. Paul and blue looked surprised, Eddie had a glad expression , and Oits looked like he was ready to pounce on him, curling his lips up. "So, seems like ya'll not rehersing to me. Looks like y'all are having a party or something." He hoped his corny joke would lighten things up a bit. "I don't see it that way" Otis began. "Looks like you were the one partying around, while we were here worrying about you and learning the routine without you!!!" David huffed, "Calm down O, enjoy the fruits. I'm here now and I apologized. What else do ya want me ta do?" "Oh, I know what you can do-" Otis began. "Calm down, O" Blue advised his friend. "We won't go no where starting up things again."
Otis opened his mouth to say something. but immediately shut it.
"Who is this"? Eddie asked. Betty broke her quiet trance and quickly spoke up in her heavy southern accent. "Oh- my- Lord. Oh- my- Lord... you are Eddie. Sweet Eddie. I- I -I've always loved you since you layed your sweet vocals on "The way you do the things you do". You were always my favorite. Truly amazin'. That's what you are truly amazin'."
Eddie gave David a puzzled expression. It was truly unlikely that Daivd would ever bring a lady who was not a groupie of himself. "Thank you, I think" he finally replied. David shot her a shocked expression "Ruff, you knew that we were to rehearse at 7:00. You know you wasn't right to leave us hanging like that." Paul reminded David. "Look, I didn't mean to show up so late, but I was at a charity party for a friend of mine and I lost track of time. It was a honest mistake." He crossed his arms and felt that he had said all he needed to. "How many more times will there be an "Honest Mistake"? Otis questioned him. "Cause this aint the first time you've either been late or not show up at all. You don't seem like you take our motto "Everybody for the group seriously!" David let out a weary sigh. He knew he did'nt have time to be lectured like little child. "Look, O, you don have to lecture at me, I'm a grown ass man and will do what I Damn well please, no disrespct intended. But I told ya straight up before why I was not too good with rules." "Look, Ruff" Blue began. "This showing up late stuff is getting old. All we are asking is for you to try." Oits cut in. "Look man, you know we brothers. But you gotta have tough love sometimes, so I'm saying this as I have said before."Either you straighten up, or we letting you go." Everyone fell silent. "Alright, I'll do what I gotta do" David finally agreed. But deep inside, he knew that Otis was bluffing with him. Everyone wanted to see him and Eddie the most and they were practically the group. Of course, he decided to keep his comments to himself- this time and smile. Eddie smiled back. "Well what did y'all learn?" he asked. You won't have time to learn it." Paul replied. "Don't worry, I'll think of something" David replied.................
In conclusion, the group got packed and made the plane on time. On the major plus side, the performance was STELLAR. The audience went wild with David tossing the mike behind his back and doing split and they loved the routine the Tempts did and of course, they sounded great as usual. No one would ever know that they made the routine in a few hours...... As for poor Betty, David dissed her as soon as he found out that she was only using him to get to Eddie.........
In a year, he would find really get his own groupies when he went solo.....

Chapter 24: ~~~~~~~~~~
(10 o-clock the next morning. Honeys family eating breakfast at the table when door bell rings)
Honey-I’ll get it. *Gets up from her chair to answer the door.*
DVW-Morning Honey. May I come in?
DD-Honey who is it?
Honey-It’s David mother! *Turns to him* Come on in....*gestures for him to come in & closes the door, walks back to her seat at the table*
DD-David! What brings you here?
JD-Yes boy, what brings you? *Smiling*
DVW-Oh well, first of all let me just say it’s nice to see you all! Mrs. Daniels you look stunning!
Honey-(thinking to herself)*Oh yes mother you look stunning-mock voice-pssh, suck up. Who does he think he is? What’s he doing here?*(The morning light glistened on his jet black slicked back hair, he was wearing a casual suit as usual. He was laughing with her parents, grinning from ear to ear with those dimples of his)
JD-Honey?
Honey-*breaks out of her thoughts* Hmm, what?
JD-Are you going to answer David?
Honey-I, what was the question?
DD-He asked you to the carnival tonight darling! Oh David of course she’ll go, won’t you Honey?

DD-Good it’s all settled then. She’ll be ready by eight for you to pick her up!
DVW-Well, I’m looking forward to it! *Stands & kisses Honey on the cheek* Good day to you all. *Leaves*

DD-Oh pish posh your still going to the carnival, just not with the girls as you planned. No, you are going with that charming young man & having a grand time! Besides, it won’t hurt our name one bit for you to be seen out on a date with the mayors son.
Honey-But,...daddy do I have to?!
JD-I’m afraid so, can’t very well cancel now. I’m sorry sweetie....I’m sure you’ll see the girls there.
Honey-Yes sir. May I be excused, I have to go tell Meagan & Daisy I won’t be attending the carnival with them after all. *Gets up & leaves, heads for David’s (Ruffin), but see’s him walking with Jimmy down the street & runs over to them*
David-Hey baby! *Hugs her*
Honey-Hey! Hey Jimmy.

Honey-David I’m so sorry, but I can’t go to the carnival with you tonight!
David-What? Why not?
Honey-Well I....I kinda have to go with someone else.
Jimmy-Who? Daisy & Meagan? Why don’t ya’ll just go together?

Honey-Pssh, the one & only. Mother insisted I’d go & then said it wouldn’t hurt our family name one bit to go out on a date with him. So now I’m stuck doing it!!
David-Well, all the guys were looking forward to seeing you. I don’t think Mr. Van Wyke will even let us near you....because of, well you know!
Honey-Race, I know. But don’t worry....I’ll see ya’ll somehow. I sure as hell ain’t staying under his arm all night.
David-That’s my girl! *Kisses her*

DVW-My lady*holds out his arm which she regretfully takes & they walk to the carnival. On the way in they pass by everyone(David, Jimmy, Earline, Momma Rose, Otis, Melvin, Eddie, Paul, Al & Josephine).*
Honey-Um, David I’m parched. Would be a dear & get me a lemondae? *Bats eyelashes*
DVW-Sure. Wait here. *Kisses her cheek & runs off to get her drink*
Honey-*Turns to the group* Ewww*wipes her cheek with her hand*
David-Hey baby. *walks up to her & puts his arm round her waist*
Honey-Hey ya’ll! Jimmy, Earline, Momma Rose, Otis, Melvin, Eddie, Paul, Al & Jo. Wow, your certainly all here!
MR-It’s a shame you can’t join us dear.

Honey-So, dinner everyone! My treat! *All shout ya & head off to the A&W. In the A&W at large table giving their orders*

Honey-*Wakes up, yawns & stretches. Folds down her sheets & walks over to her window(balcony)* Good morning to me....*walks down stairs to see her mother & father at the breakfast table* Morning mum *kisses her cheek*, daddy *kisses his cheek, sits down at her spot* Ya’ll awlful quiet this morning......
DD-And your awful chipper, full of life....
JD-Don’t recall you being such a morning person....
Honey-*Looks at them questioningly* I woke up on the right side of the bed this morning I guess.
JD-Guess you’ve been waking up on the right side of the bed for the last two weeks then. You’ve been so...hyper in the mornings.
Honey-Well maybe I’m just relieved schools over & I can enjoy the summer before going to college. *Begins to eat her breakfast*
DD-Did you uh, have fun at the carnival last night dear?
Honey-Considering whom I was stuck with, yes.

JD-David said you came home early last night, that you left around 10:30?

Honey-Thank you father. As I’ve said, I’ve been with David for about a week. That evening two weeks ago when I came home from school late, was when I met David & his brother Jimmy. The girls & I were walking home & Jimmy was....making some inappropriate comments....
DD-What did I tell you?!
Hony-Not through mother. Anyways, the next day I ran into David at the grocery store where he apologized for his brothers behavior & his hot sauce fell into our groceries. I went on my way to return it to the store as you asked mother but ran into David instead, he got beat up by a cop due to a misunderstanding so I walked him home. We kept running into to each other. We were friends, he asked me on a date to a concert...so I wasn’t really at the movies. We were friends, we fought, his brother apologized. I met his friends & family....he asked me to be his girl, I said yes. I was suppose to go to the carnival with him & his friends & family last night to celebrate something, not with Meagan & Daisy, nor with David Van Wyke! *catches her breath*
JD-Well Honey...I believe you’ve lied to your mother & I more these last two weeks then in your entire life thus far.
Honey-Yes sir. I told David that actually not long ago....
DD-How could you Honey? I thought we brought you up right! Church every Sunday, high class & society, manners, the finest things money can offer....where did we go wrong?!

JD-We didn’t go wrong with her Diane, she made a mistake is all there is to it.

DD-By never seeing him again!

JD-No. You may see him, just not in the relationship your in with him. You will break it off...
Honey-No! You....you guys can meet him! We can have him over for dinner & you can get to know him! His family & friends are just as sweet as he is &....
JD-Decision is final, you will see him in no more then in a friendly way or not at all. You will break it off with him! You are also grounded for a week. Except for this Saturday when we will all be attending the mayors ball he’s holding for his birthday, David....Van Wyke; will be your date.
Honey-*Tears in her eyes glances between her two parents...stands up & runs out the front door in her pajama’s all the way to David’s house. Knocks on his door repeatedly till Jimmy answers & she lets herself in* Where’s David?!
Jimmy-Whoa, what’s wrong?
Honey-Where is he Jimmy?! *voice shaking*
David-*Comes out from the kitchen* I right here, what’s going on?....
Honey-*Crosses over to him & throws her arms around him* David! *Sobs onto his shoulder*
David-*Nods to Jimmy to leave & let them have some privacy which Jimmy does* It’s alright baby....what’s wrong? *Strokes her hair*
Honey-*slightly sobbing still, looks up at him* It’s over.
David-What’s over? *Utterly confused*
Honey-It’s over, it’s all over. We’re over....
David-What, why? What happened?
Honey-David....
David-Yes?
Honey-No, David, David Van Wyke happened. He saw us last night & told my parents....they know. They know everything....& we’re over. *Silent tears streaming down her face*
David-*Takes her face in his hands, wiping away her tears with his thumbs* Shh, baby it’s ok. We’re not over, everything will be alright.
Honey-No, I’m not supposed to ever see you again! Not as more then a friend & I don’t know if I can handle that....
David-Hey, we’ll sneak around. That’s what we’ve been doing. We’ll be fine...*kisses her*
honey-*Pulls slowly away* No...I don’t want to glance over my shoulder all the time while being with you. I have to go, tell the everyone goodbye for me..... *Walks out leaving David at an utter loss*

(Saturday evening, Mayor Van Wykes home. David with Honey, as her date as her parents had said).
DVW-Good evening Honey. You look lovely! Not accompanied by any....Ruffin’s this evening I see! *Smirking from ear to ear*

Honey-I just thought it’d be nice having you around more is all....lord knows I have room to spare.
David-You sure?
Honey-No, you caught me! I just want you to move in so I can murder you in your sleep for your last 4 girlfriends! *Table all laughs again* Yes, I want you to move in; with no ulterior motives in mind I promise!
David-Alright then. I’ll move in, first thing tomorrow!
Honey-*Hugs David* You know Eddie, God forbid this singing thing don’t work out you could have a career in real estate!

Chapter 29: ~~~~~~~~~~
(Next morning, around 7am I’d say, Honey woke up to something very different then her alarm clock.)
*loud thuds from downstairs, Honey still in bed*
Honey-*Yawns & stretches out her arms* What on earth? I’m gonna kill who ever is making that noise!! *gets up & walks to the top of her stairs & looks down to see 4 or 3 brown boxes in her front room & the door wide open* What....
David-*Walks in setting down another box*
Honey-David!
David-*looks up* Morning baby *smiles*
Honey-*Don’t you baby me! What do you think you are doing?!
David-Moving in, like you said I could last night.
Honey-Well yes but not at the crack of down! I was sleeping you know?!
David-I know you were. I walked on upstairs to see if you were up. Clearly you weren’t & you looked so peaceful that I just couldn’t wake you! So, I thought I’d just start bringing my stuff in & if I finished on time I was gonna make you some breakfast....
Honey-Aww, that’s so sweet of you....wait, how did you get in?
David-Oh, well you left your door unlocked last night; apparently you forgot to lock it....not safe baby. *Smirks*
Honey-Aren’t you the clever one....what were you going to do if the front door wasn’t unlocked hm?
David-Climb up to your balcony of course, surprise you that way.
Honey-I see. *Leans over the railing*
David-Speaking of surprise, come down here; I got one for ya!
Honey-Really?! *Smiles*
David-Girl would I lie to you?! Now get down here before I change my mind ‘bout giving it to ya!
Honey-*Runs down the stairs & jumps into his arms & wraps her legs around him* So where is it?
David-What if I make you wait for it?
Honey-*Looks him in the eyes* I’m not a very patient woman so you give it to me now or I’m going back to bed! *she said stubbornly*
David-Well then I guess I better give it to ya *smiling*
Honey-*Laughs* I guess you’d better!
David-Alright then! *Kisses her soundly on the lips while wrapping his arms around her*
Honey-Hmm, that was nice....
David-Ya I thought you’d like it *smiles*
Honey-Cocky aren’t ya?
David-No not cocky, confident! Besides, I know what you like.
Honey-Oh you do do you? *David walks her over to the couch & sets her down* Because honestly I find that hard to believe because you’ve only really known me...4-5 weeks of your life!
David-*Sits on the couch beside her* Seems like I’ve known ya longer then that....but your right that ain’t very long. *gets a slightly defeated look on his face*
Honey-*catching that look on his face, lays down so her heads in his lap & looks up at him* But, for the short while you’ve known me....you’ve been very perceptive as to what I want! And I like a man who catches on quick! *Smiles up at him*
David-*Still looking not quiet convinced* Maybe I don’t know you as well as I think.
Honey-*Rolls her eyes* I bet you can tell what I want right now, just by looking at me & if you can’t I’ll kick you out & you won’t live with me!
David-*Looks down at her playful smile. Kisses her again*
Honey-Can you read minds cause that’s exactly what I wanted?! *Both laugh* Guess your stuck living with me now huh?
David-*Playing with a strand of her hair* Damn, guess I am stuck living in this gorgeous house, with a gorgeous woman....how will I manage? *Both laugh, he gets up & heads to the door*
Honey-Where you going?
David-I got like 2-4 more boxes to get in here woman!
Honey-*Sits up* Fine, guess I’ll be the one making breakfast! *Smiles & heads into the kitchen*

Okay, got another story. I'm not exactly sure where I'm going with this one, but I'll get it together. I have nothing else to do, so...............

This one's called "Dennis The Un-Menace". It's set in 1968, right after David is fired.................

It was a warm bright sunny spring day in the year 1968 in Detriot, a time when people are usually cheerful and chattery, when love and fresh scents of flowers are in the air, and everything seems uptight and outta sight....... well except that one particular spring day at Motown records. It might as well shoulda had a huge rain cloud over the whole bulding, because, nothing was very cheerful, chattery, or positive that afternoon. The decision had came to a Three to One vote. Every member of the super successful group The Temptations except (Eddie Kendricks) voted that it was time to give David Ruffin the boot. It was one of the toughest decisions that the group ever had to make, but everyone, (Particularly Otis) had enough with with David's "Super Egotistical Ways" and thought that kicking David out was the only way to solve their constant problems.................................
"Y'all can't do me like this"!!!! David screeched as he tore up the termination letter that his was given by thier manager Shelly Burger. "You ungrateful son of a bitches"!!!!!!!!!!! Y'all ain't nothing without me!! "Without David Ruffin, y'all aint nothing!!!" As David carried on with his rowdy objections, the remaining four Tempts stood behind the window inside in front of Motown and helplessly watched with different expressions on thier faces. "What have we just done"? Eddie silently worried to himself. Next to Paul, David was one of his dearest friends, He knew that with David as semi- lead of the group, he helped bring the group numerous hits. Sure he had his problems, but didn't they all?? Otis cheated on his wife Jo, His best friend Paul had some problems with the bottle, and he himself had some habits that were not good. The group watched David finally get in his limo and leave in utter silence. "So now what"? Melvin wondered out loud. Nobody answered him. Instead they choose to keep the unanswered question to themselves and silently continued to stare out the window with thoughts/ regrets of thier own. Paul turned away from the window and began to stare at the wall. Finally Otis broke the uncomfortale silence. "Guys, you know nobody's bigger than the group here. Were all equals. We did the right thing" It sounded as if he were also trying to convince his own self that they made the right decision." "Do you have any idea about who we're gonna replace"? Paul finally spoke up. "Cause you know everyone knows the Tempts as a five- man group."He had to come to the reality that they had to find someone fast now that he eventually convinced hisself that he voted fairly. "I know" Otis said. "I don't have a definite ideal person yet, but I'm sure we can find someone soon". "It's not gonna be easy, but I'm sure we can get a real good singer." Melvin implied.
"Always the rock" Eddie thought to himself. He still didn't feel right, and did'nt talk very much the rest of the day......................

A few weeks later, Eddie and Otis were in the same room wating to talk to Shelly as the Contours practiced for an upcoming concert. There was one particular man who stood out in the group, named Dennis Edwards. The Tempts. were well- aquainted with Dennis and found him to be very nice. But they never heared him perform before, which is why it caught Eddie and Otis by surprise as they listened to the powerful. grity, soulful voice that came form Dennis. The two of them looked at each other with raised eyebrows. They didn't share words, but they knew that Dennis was a perfect candidate for thier group and were willingly ready to take any chances to try.................
