I hate to correct you but, I THINK the scene with Otis and Melvin happened around 1977. Dennis was a member from 1968 to 1975 the first time around. If you listen carefully to Melvin talk about only having half a house full, there is a little more to it. Otis says something like "Well, Half a house still deserves a good show. We have to be twice as good tonight FOR THE NEW GUYS". You have to listen real close to catch it. I always assumed that it meant Glenn and Louis. Remember, Glenn is the one singing Ball Of Confusion in the next scene. Yeah, and David, Eddie, and Dennis, (with those 2 other guys) are singing Ball of Confusion wearing those crappy powder blue tux-uniforms, in the contrasting scene. I think that Otis said something like "We have to be strong examples for THE NEW GUYS"

Good, post nupe. I will have to agree. the misiseries could have been more expansive. But they might have been trying to cut it down to a "clean" readers digest version.

I was just thinking...driving down the road, listening to "Power".....I thought about that point in the Temptations movie when Otis and Melvin were in the dressing room, wearing those satin-y black shirts. Remember? "Half a house, still deserves a great show!" Then he playfully hits Melvin. (Which probably hurt Melvin, at that point, big dummy.) *Anyway,* Dennis was still with the Temptations then. But you wouldn't know it. It's like he's a big zero. I hate the fact that Dennis is some kind of "background" guy in the movie. You see him in the scene, but it's like he's some kind of outsider. We learn *nothing* about him. Zip. Nada. (Oh, except the false idea that he was mad when David took the mike away during that concert.) This guy was the lead singer for...what was it....14 years straight? (The first time around....) Did they *have* to leave him out of the movie because he's still alive and Otis was afraid to say anything that would p*ss Dennis off? Lawsuits and all that? I, for one, would have liked to have learned more about Dennis. I, at least, would have liked to see him as an integral part of the group... instead of just this 2-person core, with interchanging parts. You know I *love* my Melvin, so this isn't against him. And, no, Mikey didn't pay me to say this. But it's just an observation... any thoughts? Why no Dennis? It's like he didn't exist. Even that big article about "Success" that is posted in the newspaper articles section of this board, they mention the *five* Temptations responsible for "their sound." That isn't totally true. Yes, the Classic Five started it all.... they instigated the original sound. But what about later? Peach I don't have to pay you for telling the truth.

To tell the WHOLE story, they probably would have needed a month...or two.

TEXTI have watched the miniseries and read Otis Williams' book. Is it just me or does it seem like everyone of the Temps had problems except Otis? Throughout the movie he is soooo bossy yet he doesn't appear to be doing much of anything creative-wise within the group.

What burns me up is that movie didn't say ANYTHING about Damon Harris. They only had that guy who played him in Papa was a rolling stone but failed to mention who he was. I agree with whomever it was that said Otis didn't make any mistakes, he was perfect. His time is coming. If not already here. The way I see it, he is poorer than some of the other ex temps. He has no family. Gee, I wonder why.

Goodness Miss Tara, such bitterness.
Anyway, you're right, didn't say a thing about Damon, just like it didn't say a thing about Ricky, Glenn, Louis, Ron, Ali, Theo, Ray (etc., etc.)
What would you have included about Damon and who would you have chosen to play him?

I didn't have a problem with the guy who portrayed him. I just thought it was wrong to do the entire song without the mentioning of him. As far as Glenn, Ron, Louis, Ali etc etc,..this movie didn't have any of the songs they either led on or were background. Papa was a rolling stone was entire. At least Glenn got a hello from Otis when they were about to go to rehearsal for the reunion show. Anyway, I just think there is some bitterness between the two, or just one person in part.

Yeah. While I've never heard O say anything unkind about Damon I'm sure the bitterness probably goes both ways.

It's not just those two. It's much more than two. The movie was centered around the HOF 6 and even more the C5 so they weren't trying to get into sub plots of anyone after that. They had to acknowledge them as being in the group but they didn't want to have to explain it....that would have taken another 4 hours........... ;D
